Rahm Finds Millions More

  • The Chicago Park District is exploring the possibility of expanding Soldier Field by 5,000 seats to bolster Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s long-shot bid to host the Super Bowl and, more importantly, to increase seating capacity for other revenue-generating events.

“We are fighting below our weight class. That’s the way I would look at it. We capped ourselves” with a capacity of 61,500 for football and 63,500 for other events, Emanuel told the Chicago Sun-Times.

“I know everybody looks at the Super Bowl. But, look at this hockey event [between the Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins], which we started last year with college hockey. You look at two years ago when we had the Mexican soccer team here. We have Liverpool coming. These things not only sell out. They sell out fast. And it’s clear that you could do more, given these super events and they would be self-financing and self-sustaining.”
Gee, if only someone, anyone, had said to the then-mayor, the Park District and the Bears that the $600 million "renovation" of Soldier Field a few years ago might have been better spent on a domed stadium, either attached to McCormick Place (or even on the wide-open, blighted west side), there might have already been a Super Bowl here, any number of additional conventions, and a revival of the hotel/restaurant business in the surrounding area.

Oh wait, everybody did say that. They were just ignored.

In Phoenix, AZ:

A gravely wounded detective exchanged fire with a wanted ex-convict as the officer lay bleeding on the pavement before the suspect was killed in a chaotic daylight shootout near a busy Phoenix intersection, police said Tuesday.

John Hobbs, 43, a 21-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department, later died from gunshot wounds. His partner, a 44-year-old nine-year veteran of the force who authorities have not identified, remained hospitalized in stable condition Tuesday after also being shot.

"Today is a tragic reminder that our officers risk their lives for us every single day," Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said at a news conference Tuesday morning.

Police identified the suspect, who was killed in the shootout Monday afternoon, as William Thornton. The 28-year-old was wanted on a probation violation warrant after having just been released from prison Jan. 9 where he served time for a drug conviction and resisting arrest.

In addition to the warrant, Thornton was a key suspect in the attempted murder of a man who was shot in the chest on Feb. 25, Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia said.

"The suspect immediately opened fire on our officers," Garcia said, noting the shooting highlights the dangers detectives encounter when tracking fugitives who don't want to go back to prison. "They'll do everything they can do to get away, including a reckless abandon for human life and that's what we saw yesterday."

Garcia said the undercover detectives were conducting surveillance outside a north Phoenix business that Thornton was known to frequent. When the suspect arrived at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Garcia said it appears he immediately noticed the officers and tried to flee in a vehicle before causing a three-car collision in a nearby intersection.

Thornton then attempted to run away from the scene before exchanging gunfire with the detectives. Hobbs was shot first, but immediately began returning fire while lying on the pavement, striking the suspect multiple times. It wasn't immediately clear if Hobbs fired the fatal shots that killed Thornton.

Neither detective was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time of the shooting.

"They didn't have time" to put them on, Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said while commending Hobbs' action after being shot.

"Heroic, absolutely heroic," Martos added. "We're talking about an officer who was shot and didn't give up the fight."

Hobbs and his partner were members of the department's Major Offenders Bureau tasked with tracking down and arresting violent offenders and fugitives.
---

RIP officer, not worth the life of 100 shitbags.
Plenty of time for 2nd guessing later. Wear your vests out there please.

Like many things in Chicago the renovations were ruined by Daley's whims. He wanted to keep the stupid columns and so this is what we got. Then a few years later he wanted to build another stadium for the Olympics since he was too shortsighted and could have made soldier field Olympic worthy to begin with. Could have kept the collonades and put Maggie Daley park there instead

the tax and spend mayor.

no money to honor city pensions/healthcare.

plenty of money for elites; new basketball, baseball, football arena's... bike paths, park birdbaths, and river walks to enhance elite clouted real estate developers property value.

don't tax their property tho as we keep hearing this bullshit on how they are the 'job creators' haha.

no bailouts for detroit either.

however when ten's of thousands hit the streets it's 'boom' like magic here's one billion usa dollars for Ukraine.

is that what it takes

put it on the taxpayers credit card. that's all you have to do. oh and don't forget to add on the interest when you do.

this bailout is a tool that can be used to produce propaganda that shows a usa boost to gdp like the economy is doing great. but it's all borrowed money not earned money.

no-one is supposed to follow the money trail after it's laundered thru the ukraine.

we're all supposed to believe that whatever portion of the bailout money that comes back our way represents money made via productivity and hard work but follow the money.

it's a ponzi scheme. doesn't the money trail begin at the pension funds -- skipping pension payments, cutting food stamps, closing schools and mental healthcare facilities, increase our taxes

yeah, when the bills roll in then the political apparatus act as tho the debts they racked up were do to some unavoidable act of nature.

what kind of message does that send eh..

what kind of message does it send having high ranking clouted cdp officials knocking on gang bangers doors offering them clouted city jobs if they will only just stop shooting people.

some would equate that to negotiating with terrorist that are holding the city hostage.

nevertheless, getting a criminal record in chicago puts one on the path to political fame and fortune am right.

getting convicted of financial fraud and you just may be offered a position of teaching an honors class in economics at one of the states prestigious universities.

if you beat your wife you may be able to beat the sitting governor in an election.

we're running a public school system training ...no-no conditioning the children...training them for nonexistent careers, building false hopes and dreams and conditioning them to obey 'our brothers keeper'.

what a waste of human resources.

what does the higher math and science score propaganda do for you when the people being rewarded are the gun toting criminals

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/03/03/obamacare-architect-be-prepared-to-kiss-your-insurance-company-good-bye-forever/#

Ezekiel Emanuel, one of the architects behind Obamacare, is now claiming that “insurance companies as we know them are about to die.” Critics of President Barack Obama’s signature health care law have long alleged that one of the real goals of the law was to put private insurance companies out of business.

“The good news is you won’t have insurance companies to kick around much longer. The system is changing,” Emanuel writes in an op-ed on New Republic. “As a result, insurance companies as they are now will be going away. Indeed, they are already evolving. For the next few years insurance companies will both continue to provide services to employers and, increasingly, compete against each other in the health insurance exchanges.”

Can't blame Rahm just on pension issues. This has been going on for years by past administrations and fop members whom were taking from kickbacks, and stealing from the pension fund...I'm no big fan of Mr. Rahm but truth is this fool is tight with his money and is spending it on large venues to make more money...now I don't see why this is wrong. The pension nonsense needs to be straiten out by everyone. Including officers. All them Bullshit lawsuits that officers get themselves into put a dent on pension spending as well. All those nonsense suits u have no control over. Hey it is what it is. However, those that u can prevent, get away from it and use common sense cause at the end it's not worth it...pension problems are a group effort and that includes us...fop votes coming up don't be part of the 80% of the officers that don't even bother to vote voice your opinion and use common sense cause this is an issue that needs to be addressed and fix by everyone. Just like our vehicles we have many officers that drive like idiots stop fucking up cars...These are useless spending that we can at least stop.

I sure hope Springfield is watching Rahm piss away money like a drunken sailor. Rahm is soon to be pressing the lawmakers in Springfield to give him a pass on properly funding our pensions.
It all comes down to priorities. Rahm despises us and doesn't like our pension system so he chooses to ignore it and not contribute what's required of the city.
The legislators, a few years back, passed legislation that's gonna force the city to start getting the pensions funded properly... starting next year.
Rahm's crying a river about it and wants the legislators to bail him out.

"Lumani Lubemba, 32, was arrested at 9 a.m. Tuesday and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and with impersonation of a peace officer...

"Lubemba was at the Daley Center dressed in a blue uniform and wearing black body armor when he went up to a sheriff's deputy in the Daley Center and said he wanted to sign in his weapon, according to a press release released today by the Sheriff's office. He then showed the semi-automatic handgun he had on his right hip, under a jacket...

"Officials said that Lubemba works for a security firm but is not authorized to carry a gun...

"He was taken into custody and deputies found that he had three, fully-loaded magazines, containing 15 live 40-caliber, hollow-point bullets, a 4.5 inch knife, an ASP baton, pepper spray, and a pair of handcuffs..."

How do you "fully load" three magazines with only 15 rounds? Do they mean "three, fully-loaded magazines, EACH containing 15 live 40-caliber, hollow-point bullets?"

"Bullets." Got it.

If we have extra money, let's start buying some cars. It's embarrassing to have so little cars available. I drove by a movie set and saw officers blocking traffic with their personal cars a couple days ago. You have officers waiting around the station for hours for available cars to come in between shifts. Cars go down for repairs but no pool car available. Cars in dangerous condition being driven on a daily basis. The current fleet need to be upgraded. So let's start using some of the money to buy some new cars.

Hey Frank Lloyd Wrong, Soldier Field is a landmark. You can't mess with the existing structure.

All citizens of Chicago should watch CNN special series called, Chicagoland on thursday night at 9pm.

It is a series that Rham does not want shown.
Why it shows his dictatorship of city. And why it is failing

It took an outside news agency to come to Chicago and see whats wrong. WOW

Could that possibly be because they are working off duty and being paid by the movie studio. If so why would they have a squad car. Just asking.

FOP Current Update
March 5, 2014

Suspended President Removed
The Lodge 7 Board of Directors officially removed Michael K. Shields from his position as the president of Lodge 7 by a vote of 15 to 11 at yesterday's Board of Directors Meeting.

Last month, the Committee appointed to hear four charges filed against Shields convened and weighed the evidence. A report was prepared by the Committee and presented to the Board of Directors yesterday as part of the monthly Board Meeting. After consideration, the Board of Directors voted and found Shields guilty of three of the four charges. After a finding of guilt, the Board voted that Shields be removed as president of the FOP.

I'm sure you meant to say their insurance coverage may or may not cover them/their auto. Some policies exclude all use in the line of duty, some exclude 'emergency response'. Some have no exclusion at all.

A few years ago, my company added an exclusion for 'emergency response' (but they'd be hard-pressed to deny me coverage if I took the car home for lunch, or to feed the dog).
I'm sure your intention was to remind everyone to check their policy and see if there's anything specifically directed at exclusions regarding their primary or secondary employment, right?

Lost landmark status in 2006:

"The National Park Service said Friday that former Interior Secretary Gale Norton had signed the order removing the stadium from the list of historic landmarks. The order followed an advisory board's finding that the glass bowl-shaped stadium set inside the colonnades of the old Soldier Field had destroyed the stadium's historic character."

It was suggested to Mike Shields by someone close that he should apologize to the membership and resign. That was last year. That would have been the stand-up thing to do and he could have at least salvaged some dignity and done the right thing. He screwed up. Big time. The thing to do was admit this to the membership, apologize and resign.

He refused. He even then denied doing anything wrong, in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Then he pulled the fixed contract allegations. With no evidence, no proof, no witnesses, no documentation. That is when the cheese slid all the way off his cracker and even many close to him bailed out.

Still I am surprised as many voted to save him as did. I figured it would be way lopsided, 24-2 or something like that.

Too bad, he caused lots of damage and failed to acknowledge his mistakes.

Why does there have to be a "Maggie Daley" park anywhere?

3/05/2014 12:39:00 PM

Because they needed a bunch of repairs, yet again, to Millenium Park and used Maggie Lard Ass Park as an excuse.

$55 million bucks. That is just an extension of the bungling and mismanagement of shortshanks.

The most truthful thing I ever heard Daley say is when the subject came up of the contract between the City and Com Ed. Someone brought up the possibility of the City running the electric utility in Chicago.

Daley said to the media, "What?!" "Would you want a city worker running the electric company in this town?" Truer words were never spoken.

The immediate Past President traditionally gets a board seat with the $600 a month stipend and a delegates spot at the state and national FOP conventions. It is typically automatic. This situation is not a normal transfer of power.
