Concealed Carry Works!
It only took about 35 or 36 days, but we guess guns can prevent crime, even in Chicago, IL:
- A 53-year-old South Austin man with a valid concealed carry permit was able to shoot at two men who tried to accost him outside of his home early this morning.
The incident happened about 2:40 a.m. on the 5400 block of West Van Buren Street, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.
The man was walking from his garage to the front of his home when two males in hoodies appeared in a gangway between his home and the neighbor's home, Sullivan said.
One of the two men pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed at the man who took out his own gun and managed to fire several times at the males, Sullivan said.
The males fled the area without being struck and the shooting did not result in any property damage, police said.
Okay, so the marksmanship part might need a little work, but other than that, a verifiable prevention of crime at the cost of a few ruined pairs of underwear.
So the scoresheet so far is one northwest-sider allegedly misusing a gun and one west-sider defending his life with a gun. Meanwhile, 19 other people got shot, two fatally so far, none of which involved a Concealed Carry holder - so it doesn't seem to be legally owned handguns causing any of the mayhem. Maybe Rahm and McJersey will get lucky and CCL people will go on some sort of rampage and wound/maim 100 people tomorrow.

The running tally of FACTS you have been sharing is awesome compared to the hype and fear-mongering by others.
It is an ugly sight when CC holders go on a shooting rampage. Blood, and bodies and pieces of bodies all over the streets and car hoods and front lawns. Hundreds dead. An ugly scene.
On a serious note, you need to get some shooting ranges, maybe some indoor ones in Chicago and Cook Co. That way CC holders can go practice their marksmanship. It is hard to stay proficient if you never get to shoot.
I have a concealed carry permit. My self-defense weapon of choice is a S&W .38 caliber DA snub-nosed revolver with a non-snagging hammer shroud (Model 638). I do not want to carry in a shoulder rig, waistband, ankle holster or pants pocket.
During the winter, I carried it in my horizontal coat pocket. Now with springtime and warmer weather approaching, can any officers recommend a lightweight soft shell 3/4 length jacket with secure pockets to carry my weapon?
I've checked with NorthFace, Patagonia, Adidas, Columbia, et al. All have vertical pockets which could make it easy to accidentally lose my weapon while active and preoccupied.
Any tips on a 3/4 jacket with horizontal or at least diagonal pockets that could be comfortably worn even above 70 degrees in which I could securely carry my snubbie? Zippers would be a bonus.

Get a holster, guys that carry in there pockets without proper holsters are morons.
As far as XP, all the new computers are running windows 7, what personal info will be gotten on a department computer that's outside of personnel? If you stop logging into Facebook like a fucking teenager, don't log into your banking, or other bill paying shit you'd be fine. In short DON'T USE DEPARTMENT COMPUTERS FOR PERSONAL USE!! SHOULD VE WORKING ANYWAYS. Use the alleged brain in your head.
.45 breath mint. That was funny
To the CC 3/4 Jacket ;
Try " The GLOCKSTORE " website. There out in San Diego, CA. so you'll have to do online or call for person to person sales. I use their products for CCW, winter & summer.
Good luck!
Surprising that this even made the MSM. I'm sure more incidents have occurred without shots being fired. As far as new gun ranges, they are super expensive to set up, so I wouldn't count on lots of them appearing. Lastly, I love when the gun-weenies come out, suggesting ammo and different weapons to carry. Oops, drooled on it again, get out the Gibbs (was that weenie enough?).
Off topic. I have a question if anyone can help. Can you tell me a info. source on when Illinois will begin issuing CC permits to non-residents and are they currently accepting CC applications for non-residents? It is impossible to get info from the ISP phone line and they do not return emails from the ISP website. Gunshop owners provide conflicting information to me. I have an out of state CC permit and want to begin the Illinois classes. Thanks for any help.

Hello? Did you miss the article?! Nothing about this is "stupid" other than your comments. The guy probably saved his own life!
It says he was a concealed carry permit holder . The only one sensationalizing conceal carry in this city and state are those against it!
By the way, in Chicago, when someone comes from their garage to the front of their home, it's very likely they're on the sidewalk - a public way. He NEEDED a conceal carry license to do just this. So his FOID card isn't sufficient.
I went to Blachhawk they did a great job cut no corners and put the whole concealed carry thing in perspective.
It's a scary and calming responsibility if you know what I mean.I brought my daughter with and she learned and was comfortable. They taught you a little hand to hand to protect yourself and keep your weapon too. With any luck we will have the permits soon and will follow up with tactical courses the same outfit offers in warmer weather.
Discount for cops and firemen too.
The only bad part of this story is the thugs weren't struck by any of the conceal carry holder's bullets.
Here's what will happen. Word is going to get out. This kind of shit will keep happening and the gangbangers will think twice about shooting people in their way.
And YOU KNOW what Rahm and McSorry-
ass-for-a-police-chief will say. They're going to say the decrease in crime is from THEIR efforts, they will ignore the deterrent effect of conceal carry.
Any tips on a 3/4 jacket with horizontal or at least diagonal pockets that could be comfortably worn even above 70 degrees in which I could securely carry my snubbie? Zippers would be a bonus.
I carry the same gun, look on sportsman guide on line they have a few concealed carry jackets you can order.

Please keep posting stories like this it's important that they are talked about regularly so we can keep all the anti second amendment people's mouth shut.
The NRA's magazine regularly reports situations where having a weapon saved a life. Of course the Chicago newspapers will never carry those stories, they might upset the all powerful Rahm. Not to mention the ultra liberal editorial boards of both papers.
Nicely done.
10 hour days with 10 hour vri = problem solved
Question:
did he get his gun back? If not, why not? Was it seized for "evidence"? If so, how long before he can get the gun back... a year? 3 years? I can see the rhamster making a policy that guns are to be seized and held...defacto gun control.
Why did the ST not cover this? Tribune has the story, ST has JJJ making a tour of the Federal prison system.

I always like John Krupa classes, Spartan Training.
Looking at the shooting situation strictly from a "cost effective" stand point.
Does it cost us, the middle class tax paying worker bees, more when they wind up in the morgue or when the MASH units save their entitled lives?
I'm guessing with all the bennies that come with "cradle to grave" entitlement packages the sooner room temperature is assumed, the sooner the prize package caravan screeches to a halt.
You would think there would be some sort of government program that could be exploited for the sole purpose of increasing the shots fired to kill ratio.
Remember, he who is shot and runs away, lives to shoot another day.
I wonder how the Chicago EMS system compares with other cities EMS systems when it comes to "saving" em?
Here's a scary thought.
Now that OBamaCare is so successful, how about OBamaWholeFrigginLifeInsurance. Yep, entitlement life insurance.
I can see the the libbers "get the young ones" commercials now....... The scene: Just another drive-by scene where a porch full of folks have been sprayed. In the background Bon Jovi can be heard singing, "Wanted: Dead or Alive"
Fade to black.........
A big unknown is how many times has a crime not happened due to a concealed carier showing their weapon or whos body language caused shitbird to think better bug off. They usually don't want a diificult victim
On the way home, my neighbor was being followed late one night comming out of the subway. Says when he casually pulled laser sighted gun (yes illegal and whats that about? Politicians wouldn't want people hitting the intended target?) on wall in front of stalker, stalker did a quick turn and hi-tailed it in the opposite direction.
No doubt every day there are situations like this that we are never aware of.

It's a stupid Chicago saying like "bonafide burglary." I would ask for a number for a burglary, forcible and numbskull dispatcher or sgt asked if it is "bonafide." I would ask, is there a phony baloney burglary classification? I have hated the word bonafide for many years.
A personal experience raises the question: Why can't the CPD mount lasers on their service guns? While I agree that all should be skilled in the use of the iron sights, I've learned that perhaps the strongest deterrent to bad guys is a red (or green) dot dancing on their chests.
I was walking in a deserted park late one night when I was approached by two ne'er-do-wells asking me a stupid question from about 10 yards away. Under the circumstances, I knew that this was the prelude to an attack or robbery. I drew my concealed Glock and lit one up with my laser on center mass. They both ran off like jackrabbits. No reports were necessary.
I believe that nationally, countless similar incidents occur and go unreported to the police.
Why does the CPD braintrust ban laser aimers for our officers? You would think that common sense would prevail.
Thank God this law abiding citizen was able to defend himself and he is able to hug his family tonight. Who knows what these cannabis crazed stick-up boys would have done. It’s a shame in one of the most civilized countries in the world, we have bands of armed “thugs” terrorizing inner-city citizens like that which occurs in African nations under brutal dictators. It is a sad state of affairs when we rely on the deceptive lying, cheating, stealing politicians for guidance. These lying cheating and stealing politicians promote themselves as righteous, moral guideposts dictating that self defense through responsible firearm ownership would only lead to civil unrest much like the wild-west in their communities. And all the prohibitions against law abiding God fearing citizens to exercise the 2nd Amendment written by those lying, cheating and stealing politicians only keep those who are responsible and the law abiding in “check”. Never mind these same politicians such as aldercreatures who have long granted themselves a municipal exemption to conceal carry. Double standard? These same politicians make cameo appearances in public and are often surrounded by you guessed it, armed security forces. Hypocrites of the highest order. It’s a victorious win for the CCW good guy. Thank God he had all the government mandated registration papers in check!
I wonder if the slick, stick-up boys had their state approved valid F.O.I.D. card as required for firearm possession by law, proof of their completion of a conceal carry training certificate by a sate approved registered instructor, a valid city registration permit for their stick-up gun, completed required basics on responsible firearm ownership, completed required basics on firearm safety, possess an approved residential “security container” and most importantly, proof of payment for registration fee$ for all the required CCW regulation? If the stick boys didn’t have their paperwork straight and they was to get charged, there will be a taxpayer funded law school graduate type attorney who will make sure all the legal paperwork is straight and the law enforcement processes were done by the book. If not, stick-up boys will be let free to further terrorize citizens again and again and again. Maybe next time, the CCW victim will shoot a little straighter and skillfully master a lights out for those jackin’ assassins.

This means he was probably coming home from somewhere else. The bottom line is that this man was highly unlikely to have had his gun on his person had it not been for the CCW.

For a huge variety of clothing, try ebay.com Then narrow your search and you may find something. If that doesn't work then visit the independent clothing stores that are owned by Asians. They sell sports and "urban" type clothing. If that doesn't work then you will have to improvise. I am glad you are thinking tactically. Some people carry their weapons in a waistband while zipping up their winter jacket or on an ankle holster. How the fuck are you going to get a hold of your weapon if someone wants to beat your head in with a tire iron? Think and think tactically.

I am going to disagree. If you want to improve your marksmanship then practice dry firing. It has been said over and over again. But dry firing is the best form of practice. Plus it is free.
All you have to do is review the fundamentals, the stance, the unholstering of your weapon and grip, presentation, sight alignment, sight picture and then finally squeeze. Have those instructions with you so for the first few times or whatever you feel comfortable with, you do it SLOWLY. Then pick up the pace. You don't want to practice dry firing the wrong way.
Why would you even pass the Scumtimes allegation along, it just gives them credibility and only leaves the public with one side of the story from another source. People conveniently ignore the word alleged and believe the propaganda. How do coppers like the allegations made against them without a hint of their side of the story being told repeatly by numerous news, print and online outlets? If it's said long and loud enough it must be true, right. If you are subscribing to the same sensationalistic reporting as the aforementioned to drive up viewership, congratulations you're in the same league.
Are coppers still gonna be limited to what we can carry off duty when joe schmo can carry what they want, also do concealed carry permit holders gotta go qualify each year ?

A suggestion?
DeSantis makes a neoprene pocket holster for flat bottomed and slash type pockets.
Easy draw... just got to practice your presentation stroke... Draw while sitting? Draw while standing? even draw laying on your back, etc.
Instead of a jacket flapping in the wind, did you ever consider cargo pants or shorts?
Your snub will be "on you" always... Unless someone manages to get your pants from you! ;^)
Another thing to ponder is the possibility of having to reload...
Speed loaders are king but
speed strips are a little bit lower profile for concealability.
Speed strips are flexible and you can charge your weapon two rounds at a time. Anything more increases your "fiddle factor" and that's not good when yonder urban goblins comes a callin'.
Again... Either option takes practice until it becomes muscle memory.
Ammo? Absolutely nothing wrong with the old "Chicago Load" 158gr. +P .38 Special Lead Semi-Wadcutter Hollow-Point.
Those gumballs WILL expand at the usual range of engagement.
Here's hoping you never have to...

The recommendation to get a pancake and not to put your weapon in a pocket is a good one, especially in a jacket because you may put your jacket on the back of a chair or take of if sitting inside,to solve this I bought the bodyguard 380,can slip into pants pocket and is not noticeable, shorts with cargo pockets are handy also!

"Why can't the CPD mount lasers on their service guns?"
There are a variety of issues with lasers, for one, if there are multiple officers on a scene, how do you know which laser is yours?
Another thing is if the public thinks that there is pinpoint accuracy with a laser (there isn't) they'll insist we shoot to wound.
Lasers like any sighting system need to be realigned for accuracy now and then, like when you drop your gun (hey, it happens). CPD is too cheap to give ammo for that.
CPD training is infrequent enough. If we get too dependent on technology, it won't be good.
12:07 the laser sights make sense except in a liberal world where they would expect us to shoot the gun out of the offender's hand

The big misconception with laser sights is that once you put the laser on the suspect, you hit him there. That is the farthest thing from the truth. Most shots are missed when you pull the trigger and pull the sights off the target. That also happens with the laser. Just because it is on the target before you pull the trigger does not mean it will be there when you do.
To the poster inquiring about why the CPD doesn't
Allow laser sights, it's because they are too

And on the flip side of that, range personnel have used a better reason why whether legitimate or not:
In the event there's more than one copper pointing a gun at someone they can't be sure who's dot is who's..... in the event you think it's YOUR dot on the guy and you fire when in fact you were pointing it at someone else you weren't looking at because you thought the other copper's dot was yours, guess who eats the shit when the lawsuit comes down that you fired on the wrong person.
Much more plausible than "too intimidating" although I'm sure that excuse placates some people.

CPD training is infrequent enough. If we get too dependent on technology, it won't be good.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
Yes, and no mention in the papers

To the poster inquiring about why the CPD doesn't
Allow laser sights, it's because they are too
intimidating to certain groups!
The same reason, why secondary weapons
Are to be worn concealed and not exposed.
We are not allowed to hurt anyone's feelings
these days, now come here and let me hug you !

Let me comment on this without validating the reason CPD will not allow lasers. I have one on my pistol and unless it is almost total darkness I find it useless. I tried hitting the target by watching the laser point and not using the sights and I was way off. it probably takes a lot of practice to use it. As far as a 2nd gun, you are better off having it concealed or both could be taken from you.
Dean abuses medical and now abuses those who didn't run with him. Real classy guy. But that's the Chicago way. We are screwed.

Is your battery low or dead? You must zero in your laser. Both Viridian and Crimson Trace manufacturers zero it in prior to distribution. Also try the new GREEN laser. In daylight, it's much more identifiable than the red laser.
CHECK out VIRIDIAN and CRIMSON TRACE.
I use both on my off-duty revolvers and semiautomatic pistols. You can strike a bullseye even from an unorthodox position. When your attacker wannabe sees the well-placed dot, he's only a nanosecond away from death.
After mastering the factory sights, I strongly recommend lasers for police weaponry.

I'd have to disagree big time. I installed a laser on my S&W snub nose. The kind where it's built into the grip and the beam will ride along the side of the barrel. More accurate, follows the path of the bullet. I wanted that type because most of the lasers I've seen are under the barrel near the trigger guard. With those, you have to adjust the angle of the beam upwards toward the target if you follow me.
Anyway, after dialing it in at 15 yards. I set up a metal target all the way down at the Range. At the very end. I have no idea how many yards the Academy range is. With a SNUB NOSE and not using the sights at all, CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! All five. I wasn't even aiming. I watched the laser beam bounce around on the target, tried to control my breathing and slowly squeezed.

Concealed-Carry 3/4 Jacket said...
Get a proper holster. I'm a female CCW in Boston. I am currently carrying a Kahr Arms PM9 using a Versacarry holster. Females tend to wear more body conscious clothing and if a female can body carry any male should be able to figure out how to.

Sure hope one day, before I die of old age, Chicago has a reciprocal agreement with Texas over CCW.
I'd sure like to visit the city (and NYC to) but not without my rosecoe.
We here in Texas have our share of crime and miscreants but good folk do have guns and DO shoot back.
Hope it works out well in Chicago.
Little off topic. While visiting customers in a Buck season centric State, I often visit, I recollected that, while you can't apply for a non-resident CCW permit by mail in the State, a longstanding law did allow you can get one by personally applying in the Sheriff's office, so that's what I did.
Woman at the reception desks asks for my home state permit and I hand it to her and she says, "Illinois? Gee, we don't see too many people come in from there.", as she hands me the application and then tells me after I'm finished filling it out, to stand at the counter over yonder and somebody will help me.
After filling out the application, I step up to the counter and lay my IL CCW card and application down. Somebody gets up from a desk, comes over, looks at my CCW & the application and says, "We don't get many people in here from IL." Then he tells me to have a seat and wait for my name to be called by the guy taking photos and laminating permits.
My name gets called and the photo guy gestures for me to have a seat in front of the camera, looks at my paperwork and says, "We don't see too many people from Illinois."
I paid $20 and I was walking out with a permit in the time it would take me to go thru the drive-thru at McDonalds.
I was in the State for three days and I didn't see one "No guns Allowed" sign and I didn't read, hear or see a shoot-out in the streets by a person carrying a gun.
Just like Obama and the liberals cried the world was going to end with the Sequester, all their pissing and moaning about CCW in IL is all hype.
They want the public to be babied in to being damn sheep.
