Otis McDonald Passes Away
You might not know him, but he changed a lot of peoples' lives for the better:
- In McDonald v. City of Chicago,(2010), Chicago resident Otis McDonald, a 76 year old (in 2010) retired maintenance engineer, had lived in the Morgan Park neighborhood since buying a house there in 1971. McDonald decried the decline of his neighborhood, describing it as being taken over by drug dealers. His lawn was regularly littered with refuse and his home and garage had been broken into a combined five times, with the most recent robbery committed by a man McDonald recognized from his own neighborhood.
An experienced hunter, McDonald legally owned shotguns, but believed them too unwieldy in the event of a robbery, and wanted to purchase a handgun for personal home defense. Due to Chicago's requirement that all firearms in the city be registered, yet refusing all handgun registrations after 1982 when a citywide handgun ban was passed, he was unable to legally own a handgun. As a result, in 2008, he joined three other Chicago residents in filing a lawsuit which became McDonald v. Chicago.
- Gun rights activist Otis McDonald has passed away. He was 79. McDonald was the lead plaintiff in McDonald v. Chicago – a historic Second Amendment case that defined the scope of gun rights in relation to states. The National Rifle Association would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of this civil rights hero.
RIP Sir.

God Bless you Mr. McDonald R.I.P.
You were a true patriot and a defender of freedom!
One day you will rightfully earn your place in history.
One day you will be remembered for forcing the City of Chicago to uphold the US Constitution, the sacred document which enshrines the rights of the people from tyrannical oppression at the hands of the elitist Marxists who will do anything to destroy our federal constitutional republic!
Long Live the Federal Constitutional Republic and all that it stands for!
One nation united under GOD indivisible with LIBERTY and JUSTICE for all!

RIP Mr. McDonald.
Chicago should name a street after him! Sad to say, won't happen in this liberal, puke state!
"Otis, my man!" (From Animal House, and said with much respect for Otis.) God rest him.
Thank you Otis McDonald, for all you have done ~ RIP
Rip Otis. Thank you for fighting for our rights so my wife can now exercise her constitutional right to defend herself. A right that was denied by liberal chicago commie democrats.

Had the pleasure of riding the bus to Springfield for IGOLD one year with Mr. McDonald, a true gentleman , very smart soft spoken, a all around great guy. Thank You Sir for your personal sacrifice and gallant effort on behalf of all the citizens of Illinois and the City of Chicago. Rest in Peace and Godspeed
Rest in Peace Mr. McDonald, and thank you.
Mr. McDonald - A true crusader for Civil Rights, thank you for what you have done and putting Chicago's liberal, progressive Democrat politicians and judges' feet to the fire. We will look back as one of the defining moments in civil rights history as highly as the NRA assisting and arming Southern blacks from the Klu Klux Klan and Southern Democrats back in the 1950's and 1960's. God bless, and RIP.
Incredibly grateful to Mr McDonald, a civil rights icon and hero.
Does anyone know if he received a CCW permit? Truly hope he did.
Otis-----My man!
He will not be forgotten because his case will be studied and debated in every college Civil Liberties course. Thank you Mr McDonald for giving us back our right to protect ourselves!
Met him at IGOLD a few years back. Good man who shared the same values as all hard working people do.
RIP.
The Caps office in 022 will know Mr. Mc Donald's address for any CPD who want it. He was very active in meetings since the beginning. I worked closely with him for many years. He cared about his neighborhood and worked closely with CPD on many initiatives. He was a true gentleman and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It was a blessing to have known him.

God Bless RIP Friend Thank you
A a non LEO, Mr. McDonald I thank you for your efforts to get the "good" people of Chicago the chance to protect themselves in their own homes.
God speed sir and may you rest in peace.
Mr. McDonald, you set into motion circumstances which allowed law abiding citizens the Free exercise of their God given Constitutionally protected Second Amendment Rights. This was a Civil Rights struggle, not on the magnitude of MLK, but one which allowed the most basic right of self preservation, self defense for its citizens. Too many people in your community have been the defenseless victims of heinous violence. These victims were not afforded the right to possess a firearm with a means to defend one's self, and you Mr. McDonald proved that a person with strong convictions could change misguided public legislation and the accompanying validation through like-minded thinking courts. I recall you were a veteran and our nation thanks you for your service. My condolences to your family and to your loved ones. May you rest in peace. God Bless you Sir.
Mr. McDonald did not deserve to live in a community where bars on the windows are the norm, constant fear of being a crime victim is a necessary thought, the necessity for large aggressive dogs are required for protection and hoodlums run the street. Mr. McDonald was an American in a large American city. Its sad that his community has regressed to this sad state of affairs. Mr. McDonald sought CHANGE! He sought for rights afforded to every American outside a progressively controlled metropolitan area. Mr. McDonald you truly are a hero seeking citizen rights! Not to sound racial, but black American is seen by progressive, academians and elected officials as a herd controlled by their narrow minded interests dictated through the elected officials and their so called infinite legislative wisdom. Mr. McDonald, you fought for what is right-that which is equal. May God Bless Your Soul and may You accept a place in His Kingdom.
RIP Otis. Thank you for putting those commie bastards in Chiraq in their place!
RIP Mr. McDonald and thank you sir.
Huge bronze statue of the man should be placed outside the Daley Center.
Thank you Sir for being a patriot and standing up for your Constitutional Rights as an American citizen.
May God Bless the family of Otis McDonald. Rest in Peace Mr. McDonald.
Thanks
He was a very kind and thoughtful man who did more for basic human rights in Chicago than essentially any single person ever has, especially considering what he did transcended racial and ethnic lines.
He fought and won a critical battle for every decent person.
This was a good man who stood up and fought for all our rights. A true champion for the rights of everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I know he is with God!

Hilarious!....and yes RIP you fought the good fight and the right fight. You put a good honest face on a cause that so many people didn't understand but you made them understand. Thank you sir!
RIP Otis. All Law Abiding Gun Owners should insist on an Otis McDonald Day each year, to honor him. Gun Shops should have Otis McDonald Day Sales of their Merchandise. This is the first time in decades the Supreme Court ruled in a competent, logical manner.

To be honest seeing that this site isn't private I can't tell if you are a LEO or not. Go to the CAPS office in 22. They will know where he lives. He was very active with them when healthy.
Just got done reading a book that was written about Otis McDonald "An act of Bravery" nice book.
Such a shame.. I will forever be grateful for him and his courage to stand up for ALL the citizen of IL.. may he rest in peace..his reason for being here I guess was accomplished by his law suit.. now he can reap his rewards in heaven..
