Rahm Says "Slow Down"

- Mayor Rahm Emanuel today said he has instructed his drivers to obey the law after a recent TV news report noted the two SUVs that whisk him around Chicago had been caught by city cameras running red lights or speeding nearly two dozen times.
The mayor responded to the ABC Ch. 7 report by insisting that neither he nor the Chicago police officers who drive him should be allowed to violate traffic laws.
“As soon as I saw that, or heard about the story, I said, ‘Look, follow the law. Nobody is above the law. Slow down. Period,’ ” said Emanuel while taking questions at a news conference on CTA security cameras.
You can't blame him too much - he was just practicing for when he becomes president.

Why else would he need an entire CNN series showing America how he singlehandedly saved the blacks in the south and west side ghetto by getting them more basketball programs and grocery stores where there are only liqueur stores. When will the citizens and the money makers of this city finally see this over powered midget for what he is--a modern day medicine man selling nothing more then a bottle of sugar pills. I really hope more stories like this pop up and Rahm is exposed for who he really is so that the people supporting this prick can finally see that he could give a rats ass about them. If the speed cameras are really about the children, can anyone explain why there are two at Jefferson park and two at portage park a d two at lane tech but none at mollison elementary which is at 44th and MLK. The same MLK that is a four lane highway...I'm sorry, roadway looks like they can't collect there so they double up on the north side because those people can pay

Rahm didn't notice that the drivers that were chauffeuring his tutu covered ass around were going thru red lights and speeding until the Trib pointed it out??? What, was he cowering on the floor in the back seat as he drove thru town so as not to get shot by one of those bad CC people, OR, was it just Rahm being Rahm, blind to everything going on around him as he admires himself in the mirror. Hell, what are we really talking about here, 2 or 3 days interest on one of his insider knowledge hedge fund deals? Its not like the cost of the violations would alter his pension, the class of airline ticket he flys in, the ability to pay his childrens private school tuition, or the cut of steak he dines on.

I would vote for an armadillo before either of them.
Those stats that were published were just the those that were actually caught on camera, at monitored intersections. (Less than 10% of the entire city) One can easily note that the actual red light/speeding are very much greater due to the percentage of unmonitored intersections/locations throughout the entire city.
As far as his (after the fact, 'gotcha') press release, “As soon as I saw that, or heard about the story, I said, ‘Look, follow the law. Nobody is above the law. Slow down. Period.’
Why did he tell his drivers this, NOW on TV.
Why didn't he just lean over the front seat the FIRST TIME it happened and tell them that crap.
That press release was a carefully worded response to give one the illusion that he was NOT in the vehicle whenever those violations occurred.
And when he runs for president, I can hear it now, "If you like your red light and speed cameras, you can keep your red light and speed cameras."

There has to be a line where people paying taxes get fed up with how much their money is redistributed. Unfortunately welfare,food stamps, etc..(not including people with disabilities SSI (without qualifying for benefits), or Medicaid has become a lifestyle instead of a short term help. At what point do the people making the money finally get fed up with this? Are we there now? 30% plus increase in utility cost - more property taxes. We are reaching the point where people have nothing to lose. When you are working as hard as you can and you can't get by because the government is taking so much from your earnings then it is time for revolt. The founding fathers never intended a man to pay 50% of everything he earns each year to the government.

It is SO inspiring that as soon as he was told about his motorcade careening around the city at high speed, flying through red lights, he put a stop to it as we would expect from a man of integrity holding Chicago's highest office.
I tremble for the fate of the miscreant driver who endangered the citizens and children of Chicago, heedless of the entreaties from the back seat.
Kudos to the legendary Chicago city government watchdog task force at the Tribune for this new jewel in their crown, too!
