15 Shot in a Single Night

  • At least 15 people were shot, one fatally, across the city between mid-day Friday and early Saturday morning, police said.

The most recent incident at about 2:55 a.m. Saturday left four people wounded in Humboldt Park. The four walked into Norwegian American Hospital with gunshot wounds after someone shot them in the 3300 block of West Beach Street, just west of the park and south of North Avenue. Police said the four identified with a gang that rivals one that claims territory where they were shot.
Gangs? Around Humboldt Park? Certainly not during the always peaceful Festival time.

School is out, weather is warm. What could possibly go wrong?

Another month of this and Garry's well timed grabber will give him a perfect reason to bow out gracefully. We have an election coming up folks and somebody's head is going to be served up.....and a political hack like Rahm certainly isn't going to let the "citizens" who caused this mess take the heat for their actions.

Not to worry about simple shootings, particularly walking wounded. They are meaningless. The only once that count are deaders.

OT: Watching news recap of Officer Beck memorial service here in Las Vegas. There was a specific mention of the Chicago Police contingent honoring this officer. Nice touch.

Oh and by the way, Sheriff Gillespie, the head of the police in Vegas by way of New York (upstate) is highly regarded. This is a case where most want him to stay, although he is not running for reelection.

"Tribune reporter Peter Nickeas has been driving the streets of Chicago at night, listening to a police scanner, observing at crime scenes, and recording what he sees...."

"The man in the red T-shirt had a shaved head, with a bushy crop of hair from the base of his neck downward. He led the trio away from the car and slurred his words as he explained how he needed to use the bathroom. Then he went around the corner into the alley, apparently to relieve himself.

"The one with the bat, with three dots tattooed on his cheek near his right eye, walked west toward Damen Avenue and relieved himself in a vacant lot.

"The woman wore a black hoody that said "I <3 LOUD" and giggled at nothing. She had tattoos above her eye, around her hairline and on her cheek..."

Yes it WAS a nice touch. But don't credit the department. The Chicago police contingent in Vegas (and everywhere else in the nation for LEO deaths) are none other than " Brotherhood for the Fallen" a self-supporting charitable organization that sends our members (on their own time) to honor our nations fallen.

They depend wholly on donations to support this worthwhile cause. If you can't see fit to support them with a check, do so with a prayer for them and those they honor.

Thanks to all those involved.

I like how they are now giving daily totals instead of "weekend" totals. 15 Friday, 11 plus 1 on Saturday.

Father's Day should be interesting and confusing. Most likely baby mama's will be the ones shot by the other baby mama.

Not a cop...

BUT I always watch this blog for the real news and truth.

My friend who doesn't live in Chicago said, "hey, it looks like shootings are down from two years ago."

I made it clear shootings are NOT down. They are up. What may be down are homicides.

I think the credit for lower number of homicides is not evidence Rahm and McCarty's ideas are working it's that the EMT and emergency room doctors are top notch. They are the ones keeping the homicide rate low.

Think of the overtime these guys and gals are racking up on Fri, Sat, Sun afternoons and evenings.

I believe it is "The Brothers for the Fallen" that make sure they have at least one CPD officer attend every single funeral of a fallen officer no matter where it happens in the country.

If you're looking for a worthwhile charity to contribute to, this would be it. Real deal...and imagine the toll it takes on the CPD officers who volunteer to attend all of the funerals.

Thanks Kev.

Tonight will be bad. You get these days when thunderstorms threaten all day, but then don't come.

Many people have probably never heard or cared about a weather forecast in their lives, but I think the electrical charge/changes in barometric pressure/etc. help to make them crazier -- not that they perceive much above waist level on their best day.

Stay safe.

Rahm doesn't give a damn about the Trump sign. He's just trying to distract people from the real issues. Since he didn't give back Trump's FIFTY THOUSAND dollar campaign donation, I'd say this act is all a sham.

Maybe in your world it is, but in the real world his obligation is to the mayor, his boss. No different than you answering to the commander,Lt or Sgt.
