Power Vacuum on the West Side

Twenty-seven arrests - some big names among them:
  • Twenty-seven people have been charged with selling heroin and crack cocaine on Chicago’s West Side, the U.S. Attorney’s office said Thursday in a news release.

The charges were brought by both state and federal authorities, according to the news release.

Local law enforcement, including U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and officials from the Chicago Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration planned to hold a 2 p.m. press conference to discuss the case.

The nearly yearlong investigation into the drug market on the West Side resulted in federal charges against 14 people and state charges against 13. Authorities began their arrests this morning.
Quite a few gangs represented or in a position to deal with those arrested, so this will lead to questions of a "power vacuum" occurring on the west side, including parts of 010, 011 and 015. Hopefully, these dope dealers all get lengthy sentences, but in the meantime, be aware ladies and gentlemen.

Since the CCSAO is involved, I take it they'll be out in time for Christmas?

What's the difference?

Holder has made it clear he will release as many convicted felons as he can before the elections:

The west side is the best side.
Hot fun in the summertime!
If only we could get them into the gun ranges to learn how to shoot straight. With no "innocent" victims the press would have to ignore most of the shootings due to the lack of honor students they could connect to the Obama regime.

What about the organized suppliers of these west side medicinal entrepreneurs? Where might the “work” or the heroin and cocaine come from? South of the border? A very porous border I might add. Which cartel imported this poison? El Chapo was taken down eliminating the competition for which competing drug cartel? Feds acting as assault weapon straw purchasers and a firearm distribution network for south of the border Fast and Furious drug cartel carnage. Lets not forget the U.S. border Agent who lost his life in service to his country. This is the end of the distribution chain so lets here about the mid level and higher up heroin network arrest operations complimenting these little fish arrests. These small potato fools were making big money. But the foreign based cartels are making bigger money and seem to operate with impunity deep inside the U.S. A big headline with lots of splash in today’s news but the beat goes on in the street. Some Capone adoring misguided westsider will step up to the plate alleviating the sickness of the addicts making his big money through distribution of his “product” line while keeping the international racketeering and corrupt cartel organizations “dream’ alive.

When the feds must come in to solve big city law enforcement problems, it speaks volumes. Is the state system so ineffective that federal suits must do the job? Are state sentences less than advertised meaning that that a sentence as measured number in years is in actually far less than advertised? It’s a slap in the face to state prosecutors since federal prosecution suggest that the state’s criminal statutes and processes are flawed or ineffective. A lay person may view the local police incapable of prosecution of these street gang drug dealing networks. Locals must rely on federal law enforcement to get the job done right or so it seems. Locals do the real police work in the trenches but federal agencies steal the thunder time and time again. These drug peddling thugs need to be incarcerated but the backlash or soon to be realized violence from the vacuum this operation created will make the bean counters or CompStat thinking heads spin wildly out of control like a sabotaged Iranian nuclear centrifuge.

Sincere thanks and congratulations to the officers involved for their hard work. Enjoy your well deserved moment in the sun, for unfortunately it will be short-lived.

Power vacuum indeed. This will actually lead to an INCREASE in violence, as new players attempt to secure these lucrative distribution channels. Wonderful.

The worst thing you could possibly do to these drug dealers is legalize it. Puts the drug dealers out of business - overnite.

Know I some copper is going to weigh in with a comment like "Hey idiot, if you were ever face to face with some crackhead with super-human strength and no brains, intent on killing you, you'd think differently". A valid concern.

Let's open a drug-permitted zone, like in the middle of Englewood, since it's going on there anyway. Stay in the zone, do all the drugs you want, we'll give you the drugs for free. Just have to stay in the zone. Kill off a few of your friends? No worries, we'll just come by in the morning and haul away the dead, no questions asked. Never liked your savage friends anyways.

Crazy idea? Some might think so. About as crazy as a 4 decade long "war on drugs" that is not producing results, has never produced results, and never will. Employment security for coppers? Yes. Actually solving the drug problem? 'fraid not.

When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you need to do is quit digging.

Not a cop. And a hellva lot more conservative than you might imagine.

All those resources,so little results. A basic hit and run action that does nothing in the long run.
They can pat themselves on the back and go back and hide in their offices while the drug dealers reorganize and continue to deal drugs and violently defend their turf.
The feds are so clueless when comes to street level crime and our states attorney is glad to have it handed to them on a platter.
A year long investigation netted 14 people and the state charged 13?
I would be embarrassed ,as the working police, to come in with those miniscule numbers within a weeks worth of time in either 10,11 or the 15th district.
A years worth of time should have netted 1500 swing dicks and closed the pipe line the drug cartel has into Chicago. Clueless

So the next generation of playas will emerge only to have the cycle repeat all over again. New sets will meet the needs of those who choose to shoot up, inhale or smoke their daily lives into euphoria. President obama, Senator “little Dick” durbin, Governor quinn, State Representative derrick smith, Mayor emanuel and Aldermans chandler have failed to create jobs as an alternative to peddling dime bags of death on the street corners. When the job creation promise fails, urban mens end up in jails. When the empty talk of jobs go bunk, your hope and dreams of going legit get sunk. The failure of the employment opportunity in your nation will force you to make choices leading up to your incarceration.

As a young man who lives in 025, I'd disagree with that statement. Maybe because I live only a few blocks from the Grand & Central station, but I've come in to contact with you guys plenty of times. Never anything criminal on my end, just regular pat downs and contact cards

=====================
The Haight-Ashbury district was sought out by hippies to constitute a community based upon counterculture ideals, drugs, and music.

2 new streets in the middle of Englewood - I like it !

In our district, drugs were sold at 1 particular corner(among many) - In the 24+ years I've been there, that drug market has moved 660 feet (one block) to the East. In another 25 years, they will be 011 (and I'll be retired). Absolutely right, 4 decades, no difference.

+1!

A piss poor return on the investigatory dollar...
Your assessment of a minimum of 1500 swing dicks for a year of work is spot on.

Unless the feebs can make entire blocks of these BEE-AY-DEE, hard head, iron-legged asshole m/fers "disappear" for decades at a time, the replacement iron-legged asshole m/fers will continue squirting out of whatever hot, fetid orfice they originate from to further corrode this city.

M/Fers don't fear The Police but they fear the possibility of the Feds making that dumb ass vanish for 30 to 50 years...

"We're not gonna kill ya or let you kill yourself... We'll house your "IGGERNANT" ass long enough to make you wish you were dead... Then turn you loose when your sentence is up to where your former criminal confederates are now nothing but bones bleaching in the sun..."
