Sounds of Silence

  • One victim was a retired bus driver and the other a talented blues guitarist.

They were shot to death three blocks apart on the morning of Dec. 19, 2013, in what police believe were botched robberies.

Police said they have two suspects in the murders. Both are now behind bars for other crimes. But no one in the South Shore neighborhood, where the shootings happened, will come forward to identify them as the killers.

“We are very close to making arrests,” said Sgt. Daniel Gallagher. “This case is not unsolvable. We’re hoping someone from the community steps up.”
Keep hoping Sarge. We'd love to see it, too, but the odds are against it.

“We are very close to making arrests,” said Sgt. Daniel Gallagher.

Really? If waiting for witnesses to step forward to ID the criminals and no one has come forward, then we are no closer to making an arrest than before despite what the Sgt believes. If the POS don't shit himself, get ID, drops DNA, is videoed, or someone else flips the crimes are unsolvable. And considering the CCSA office I would bet a note from the POS's mother would be needed also.

Do known snitches have a short life span? How about their families?

There was a story on the Trib site not to long ago on a guy being convicted for shooting a "snitch".

These aren't botched robberies. That makes it sound like these murderous thugs really didn't set out to kill anyone. In many cases, these offenders set out to steal AND kill. Botched robbery sounds like the gun " accidently went off ". Or, the victim " stumbled into the knife of the poor person who needed money to feed his kids ." It's a very b.s. sounding phrase . It's used all the time and seems like liberal spin.

We need more detectives of color, then all sorts of crimes will be solved.

Let them have their silence. Detectives and police simply wont waste time and money investigating. No one will be arrested or incarcerated.

The gang banger killers will be free to gang bang and kill again.

Silence and no snitching is actually good for taxpayers.

Chicago had a long tradition/history of no one talking/snitching.
Remember, I think it was Frank Guzzi, (sp?), a victim of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, when asked by Police just before he died, "who shot you" ?
He replied, "no one shot me".
Ah, tradition.

Gangsters, Cops, Lawyers, Politicians, Soldiers, and even Priests all have they're own codes of silence. It's sad to say but it's the way of the world.

The people, and folk, who are refusing to help with an ID in these two 'murders for money' (getting the money was the only thing that was "botched"), will be the very same ones running to the first TV camera they see, wailing away when one of their own get shot or killed, *demanding* that the po-leece "do something" about violence in their 'community'.

Well sorry Homies, it doesn't work that way, the po-leece just can't "do something". In spite of what you idiots in Da Hood may think the po-leece can't, and don't, just make shit up and arrest anyone they want. If you want the violence to end, it's YOU who have to 'do something' -- open your friggen mouths and talk to the cops.

Don't get thrown under the bus.

How many people will be pleading da 5th on the VA scandal?

How many times will the jury hear "I was only doing my job, what I was told to do by the boss" in the VA scandal?

Time will tell.

Garry is very keen on the words chosen and has lectured on how the words conjure up certain images many times.

Just one more of the tools to be used to run a political agenda.

How many times have you heard, “He aint nothin’ to me”. Basically, there is nothing it in them for them personally to get involved. They just don’t care and don’t want a hope for change. As long as the monthly checks come rolling in, All is Well. Death, murder, thieving, scamming, hustling, incarceration, getting stretched by the po-po, getting high and sexing is just an everyday thang. Death by murder is so common like that in a third world country that it doesn’t shock the conscience. Civilized communities would seek justice and do the right thing for some unfortunate toe-tagged knucklehead. Who knows what can be said for the other end of the spectrum.

Right, because we all know CPD will protect the snitches and their families.

Oh wait, after the ASA gets their felony conviction and the coppers get a 'datta boy', the snitches are left to fend for themselves.

If you have to wonder why no one snitches, you might be retarded.

President of the Cook County Board said that the Cook County Court System is dysfunctional.

the community where the majority of the inmates come from is dysfunctional.

These local politicians running for re-election will say anything and give away anything for the voters support.

Yeah, reading these comments, people in the hood are the only ones not snitching. The only ones who know nothing. Mean while from the non experienced to the most experienced in the the department... Never mind.

Remember the FOX news story on that little southside rapper "lil mouse"? The one who smacked then threatened to kill a 3rd grader for "snitching" then the 3rd graders mother had a man confront her over the whole situation all this after having her house shot up a few weeks prior after accusations of snitching I believe. And the Tribune just had a article maybe a week ago on the conviction of a snitch shooter.

Yes, it's "their" neighborhoods. The ones they're being held hostage in. Let's play "How Long Were these Shooters Out On Probation Prior To This!"
