Boo Hoo Quinn

  • Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn criticized Republican opponent Bruce Rauner and Rauner's allies today as “billionaires trying to buy their way into Illinois politics” after the GOP candidate received a $2.5 million campaign contribution from hedge-fund boss Kenneth Griffin.

“There should be reasonable limits on campaign donations and it should be government of the many not the money and that’s what these two are trying to do right here,” Quinn told reporters after appearing before the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce.

Rauner, an equity investor who has put nearly $6.6 million of his personal funds into his bid for governor, reported last week his campaign had received $2.5 million from Griffin, founder and CEO of the Chicago based hedge-fund firm, Citadel.
Didn't the Supreme Court just have something to say about money in politics? And did Quinn forget that Rahm has something like $7 million in campaign cash lying around lately? And Burke's sizable war chest? And Madigan's accounts? Quinn seems afraid of being outspent, and in the current political climate with dems having nothing much to run on, that might be bad news for his campaign.

Quinn has over $5 million in his war chest by now and will undoubtedly receive more. Cry me a river. Quinn will also have the same counties that put him over the top in the last election. Quinn boasts of being a progressive in a progressive state. Progressives are nothing more than socialists.

And while Quinn cries about unfair contributions, he gladly takes in contributions and keeps quiet about these:

In two campaign finance filings with the state election board, Quinn reported $1,970,232 in large contributions, the bulk of which came from trade unions.

The top union checks include:
•$250,000 – Operating Engineers Local 150
•$150,000 – IBEW
•$100,000 – Plumbers, Pipefitters Union
•$100,000 – Laborers Union
•$100,000 – Painters Union
•$50,000 – Illinois Pipe Trades
•$50,000 – Illinois Associated Fire Fighters
•$30,000 – Chicago Regional Carpenters

Prominent Democratic officials also wrote big checks to Quinn. They include:
•$20,000 – Ex-Senate President Emil Jones, Jr.
•$12,500 – 14th Ward Alderman Ed Burke
•$10,000 – House Deputy Majority Leader Lou Lang
•$10,000 – State Senator James Clayborne, Jr.
•$10,000 – Ex-State Senator Lou Viverito

Business interest groups and wealthy businessmen also sent Quinn checks. They include:
•$100,000 – William Brandt, President & CEO, Development Specialists, Inc.
•$50,000 – Theodore Spyropoulos, President & CEO, TGS Petroleum
•$15,000 – Foresight Energy
•$10,000 – Beer Distributors
•$2,500 – Illinois Manufacturers Association

Quinn’s aggressive fundraising in the last quarter has yielded $4.75 million cash-on-hand for the governor going into the March 18, 2014 primary in which he faces only token opposition.

Quinn needs to stop coddling illegal immigrants and giving out free money to people who don't pay any taxes. Its driving moderate voters right into the Rauner camp.

You're right, Quinn must be scared. Just like Hillary is scared people will see her as she really is. A grandma with a walker.

OT but certainly appropo for politics discussion...

You know why everyone is mad at Trump because his name is up on his building? Because its not their name up there!

Notice Rahm is relatively quiet on the topic. That's because this is a great idea - he is trying to figure out how he can get his name 20 ft by 5 ft on some building in Chicago.

Man's ego is limitless. Make him a politician, and what a horrible mix.

If the Democrats did their job and represented the people instead of doing their best to rob every penny from the people, then perhaps Quinn wouldn't be in the position he is in.

“...billionaires trying to buy their way into Illinois politics...”

Rauner was recently complaining that the "billionaire" label was unfair to him.

"People don't understand -- my investments can rise or fall in value by hundreds of millions of dollars just in the space of a day."

Some people have "deluxe problems," huh?

Illinois needs a good republican governor, similar to Walker (WI). He's slashed their state's deficit to manageable numbers in his short tenure.

Rauner, on the other hand, strikes me as an untrustworthy candidate. Something about him makes my skin crawl. Not convinced he's the right candidate, but between him and Quinn, I'll take Rauner as a long shot just to see if he can stop the hemorrhaging of people fleeing IL.

Just goes to show you how much there must be to steal or pass around to your friends. You have people willing to spend millions on a job they will spend millions to keep every 4 years. Now if these guys were so bright why would you spend millions on a job that isn't going to pay you 10% of what you spent to get it. It's because you are going to continue to drive he pensions into the ground while lining you line your pockets and the pockets of your friends. I'd rather have potatohead than tiny dancers guy.

Illinois Govs are are just po' common folk. They're known for giving away taxpayer money to 'po common folk and going to jail. Rauner is rich folk. He hasn't a clue or a word on how to run this state, unless he buys it and sells it to Indiana.
I wonder if billionaire Rauner is supporting millionaire Oberweiss' bid for Senate, haven't heard anything about that either.

When Rauner gets elected he will attempt to turn the pension funds over to his buddies, the fund managers. They will make billions in management fees and will be under no obligation to have positive returns on the investment. Just like Allison Davis and Vanecko.
