Giant Property Tax Hike Coming
- Mayor Rahm Emanuel did what he had to do to convince Gov. Pat Quinn to sign on the dotted line.
But chances the mayor and City Council can solve Chicago's $20 billion pension crisis without raising property taxes range between slim and none.
A 56 percent increase in Chicago’s telephone tax buys time to appease Quinn and get past the Nov. 4 gubernatorial election and the Feb. 24 city election for mayor and aldermen.
But it’s a Band-Aid that produces nowhere close to the $750 million in property tax collections the mayor had hoped to generate over five years to save the Municipal Employees and Laborers Pension funds, let alone make a looming, $600 million payment to shore up police and fire pension funds in even sorrier shape than the other two. There’s also the teachers pension fund that must be saved.
The Sun Times does the unthinkable and actually blames.....Daley:
- Former Mayor Richard M. Daley had a political phobia to raising property taxes that prompted him to freeze them for 17 of his 22 years in office.
In fact, Daley once diverted city payments from Municipal Employees and Laborers pension funds, then flush with cash, to provide a pre-election property tax cut.
The result is that Chicago property taxes are unrealistically low when compared with rates for the similarly sized home in most suburbs.
Wow media - Thanks for this important information! It sure would have been helpful for you guys to pass this info along to the low-information voters 5...10...even 15 years ago. You know...watchdogs and all that "fourth estate" garbage you always spout when you have an agenda, but never when you might actually have to call your favorites to account - democrats we mean. Now you're carrying Rahm's water setting up the first responders for a public pasting.
And look - more truth:
And look - more truth:
- Another City Hall source, who asked to remain anonymous, agreed.
“After the election, they’ll pass a massive property tax increase that’ll cover fire, police and everything else, and people will be taxed to the hilt. That’s the only alternative. They’ve got to set a higher base and tie it to the cost of living [going forward]. Daley should have been doing it a little bit every year, but he didn’t,” the source said.
Even if Emanuel can convince a lame-duck General Assembly to lift the $600 million hammer hanging over Chicago taxpayers during the veto session, pressure to raise property taxes to shore up police and fire pension funds will be exacerbated by the reality of those contracts.
Police officers and firefighters get simple, 1.5 percent cost-of-living adjustments. They don’t get the compounded cost-of-living increases targeted to produce so much of the savings for the Municipal Employees and Laborers pension funds.
Unbelievable how this all sees print now. We knew it years ago. The FOP tried to work out solutions with the city, but were ignored. Paid actuaries told the City it was a fucked-up scheme without constant minute adjustments to the working to keep up with economic uncertainties and realities. Nope. Not an inch of give from Daley and Co. But now everyone (in the media and those reading the media) is discovering what had been known to anyone who paid attention for years - the alarm bells were ringing, the iceberg was spotted, and no one steering the ship made an attempt to turn the wheel.
Labels: pension, un-fucking-believable

No one saw this coming ever. EVER. Because the Suntimes and Tribune were asleep at the wheel.
And let's be honest, all this money will end up be diverted to something else, and we'll have another major tax increase down the road...
"The Police are the problem in Chicago... Once we fix THEM, everything else will fall in place..."
Heh... The criminal/political media propaganda campaign against Policemen, their families and their concerns orchestrated by Daley Inc. and Rahm & Co. has been moving along in masterful fashion.
Why is the destruction of a portion of what's left of Chicago's formerly formidable middle class?
The great march backwards to "equality" with the perpetual shit-bird class...
Heh... Rahm and his $25K plate dinner mates laugh up their sleeves at the churls fighting to hang on to something.
"It's you greedy cops fault that Chicago is in such a financial mess."
Nobody still sayin' shit about Shortshanks facilitating the "misplacement" of an estimated $15+ BILLION in tax payer treasure and how Rahm Al-Ghoul is the "cleaner" to keep as much heat off Daley Inc. as possible.
Yeah... Blame The Police...
They have the collective wherewithal to make these tax payer billions to disappear.
This city truly is destroyed beyond all hope, help and salvage... Policemen are focused only on day to day survival in the face of "The Great Hate."
"Stop complaining! You guys knew it would
Be like this when you signed up!"
The Police are the enemy...
Viva Hate.
So the bottom line line is, if we want the pensions to stay solvent , the property taxes will have to be raised. Daley neglected the taxes for most of his term in office.
The police and fire will be made out to be the bad guys when the property tax increase hits the public. The landlords will be hitting their tenants also, so no one will be spared.
Drown Emanuel in his own taxes. Life is short and he has no point.
Sure put in on homeowners, how about stop the massive spending on parks and bs
"They’ve got to set a higher base and tie it to the cost of living [going forward]."
More conjuring, waving handkerchiefs and making clouds of smoke and making money magically appear out of a hat -- like TIF money, which is just a loan secured by projected future increased tax revenue once the Wonderful Project is completed.
...and if the stores on the newly-landscaped and "peoplespaced" artist's-conception ideal street stay empty, "FOR LEASE. FOR LEASE. FOR LEASE?"
Just kick the can down the road...the dwindling number of taxpayers will get hit to repay that money after an election...
Use the damn TIF money. Hey all you media folk that read the blog why not propose that? Oh because the mayor needs that money to funnel to his shady deals.
Run
Why is nobody asking about the bonds maturing this year that blagojevich purchased? Something close to paying three million a year! What will they do with that money? More pet projects or is it going to quietly slip into the pockets of those that claim we are broke? Why isn't anyone looking into this!?!?
It will have to be a 'progressive' tax that specifically targets the more affluent areas of the city.
CHA (Chicago Housing Authority) has a $810 million dollar budget.
How about cutting that in HALF to $400 million to help pay for pensions??
In my opinion unless your elderly poor or disabled no one should live rent free!!
Also get rid of sanctuary city status for illegal immigrants and their kids!! How many hundreds of millions is the city paying for housing, medical, and education for these people ??
Why are these options not on the table Rahm ??
The reality is a property tax hike is inevitable. The question is to what degree. Granted Chicago's property taxes are low compared to other local cities. However, the quandary rests with regards to the value of public education comparing Chicago with the suburbs. The property taxes in Chicago are low, but police officers are forced with to grapple with public education v. private education. Lower property taxes made private education a more viable alternative for some. However, if property taxes explode the public education system must provide a viable alternatives. The exchange in the suburbs is that higher taxes are paid, but sound public education is a more viable alternative compared to Chicago. Just a thought!
People should spit when they see a Daley. I am not advocating spitting on him, that would be a battery. But spitting on the ground is legal and no one in Chicago deserves it more.
City,
Sell more city shit and shitty city services.
Why is Daley not indicted? Everything he has done to ruin and steal from this city? And they are now naming a park after his wife! What a waste of.millions! Notice how Daley kept his press secretary Jackie heard who retired from the city with a huge $150,000 a year pension and now continues to work for the corrupt former mayor Daley at a higher salary, would that be the same girl heard who had 1 of the homes she owned had nefarious individuals living there? Guess there is value in being silent of all the massive corruption.
If we have no. Only why does rahm have billions of our money in his private tif piggy bank? Why is rahm building more schools for illegals? Giving them more of our tax money? We have a decorated U.S. Marine sitting in a jail in that scummy Mexican town being tortured everyday, stripped naked and beaten 2 tours in Afghanistan and this country this president who says he is friends with the president of Mexico does nothing to being this soldier home! The sheeple that pay the taxes have no time to protest because they try to work and struggle to pay the bills and taxes! Stop building schools rahm, no more welfare for anyone excerpt veterans, and disabled and seniors that need it, the others enough!
During the depression the government helped people but you had to work, hard labor building roads, beautifying this country, now do nothing and get free schools, free healthcare, free housing, free food via link, illegally here fine, why do you think that moron cantor lost big he spent 10 million dollars to keep his seat but a tea party candidate who spent 210,000 beat him by a great margin, some people are finally waking up, throw the bums out vote it makes a difference!
This is a load of BS. Yes, Daley avoided raising property taxes but the runt raised taxes on everything else. Now the new runt is going to blame the police and fire pensions so that he can squeeze the last penny out of our pockets.
Why is gas so expensive in the city compared to the suburbs? Hell, why do we pay a tax on a lousy bottle of water that the suburbs don't pay? Rahm wants his cut of the pie. And lets not forget that Madigan is giving out tax cuts in the millions to his buddies that the home owners (that includes police and fire personnel) will have to make up for.
This is just more smoke and mirrors so that Rahm can continue on his spending spree. They want to keep spending and buying votes. This is not a good thing for any Chicago home owner. Detroit here we come.
Convene a Grand Jury.
Yes Chicago property taxes are low when compared to the suburbs, but does anyone know how Chicago property taxes compare to Detroit's? That would be more of a real comparison. It would be interesting to see a history of Detroit's property taxes for the 10 years leading up to the collapse of that once fine city.
The real problem is the law abiding, tax paying, voting citizens of Shitcago. For over 20 years they FAILED to do the right thing.
Maggie Daley Park has to Go!!!
Time to STOP the Madness
Tax payers Should Protest at city hall
Every cop, fireman, teacher and other city worked plus their families and friends will be registered AND WILL VOTE IN THE NEXT ELECTION.
You are absolutely right. Every time a south and westside church has a registration event, the pols cave immediately. Where are our unions? This idea is a big win win.
Sheep will do NOTHING!!
yuppies and whites will not protest but just pay
Why were our pension reps silent on this matter? Didn't they see the funds decrease in value? Should have been a major campaign for better funding years ago.
Silly coppers think they are getting a pension.
"It's you greedy cops fault that Chicago is in such a financial mess."
Yeah, you've got a lot of nerve, expecting benefits that were promised to you.
Time to start publicly hanging these politicians.
He gets the chance to wait until AFTER his reelection campaign in 2015.
It would be nice for some of the cops who witnessed Daley's illegal activities when he was State's Attorney and then Mayor to tell all.
Maybe a retired cop living out of state. Could be a best selling book.
Simple solution:
A binding referendum to SHUT DOWN THE ILLEGAL TAX SCAM KNOWN AS TIF.
This city has no financial woes that can't be met with current revenue collections, even the massive inderfunding that caused the pension deficits. OF which that bump in funding is ONLY TEMPORARY to catch up with what was previously stolen.
The answer again:
A binding referendum that shuts down the illegal slush funds for the rich known as TIF, and the redirection of those lawful taxes back to their lawful purpose, the services this city is supposed to provide to it's residents, et al.
Stop the illegal tax theft for the rich called TIF.
End the illegal political slush funds for the connected rich to the elected criminal class.
Oh right those taxes are REALLY going to the pensions. How stupid do they think we are?
Will this mean more V.R.I.?
And yet, that cocksucker Richie Daley is still on corporate boards and revered at the University of Chicago. The worst mayor we've seen in modern times.
And what do you suppose the effect on businesses will be when the higher property tax hits?
First and foremost, people need jobs. You think the exodus of jobs out of Illinois is big now? Wait till this starts pushing jobs out of Chicago.
they better start building new public school's in the so called cop and firefighter wards because people will start pulling kids from private schools!
Wow---I'm glad I don't own property in Chicago.
I don't own anything anywhere.
Property taxes should NOT be based on market value or assessed value.
A homeowner in Englewood should not be taxed less than the owner of the same sized house in Mt. Greenwood or Edison Park.
Think about this. Which homeowner uses more city or public school services?
Why not... My water bill is nearly $400 for six months.
Notice how these low life politicians are trying to cover for each other by kicking the can down the road until the general and city elections are over. What Hypocrites. The only thing a massive property tax will do is drive more taxpaying citizens out of Chicago. Just what will be left in the near future is the Gimme Dat crowd.
But election after election the southwest side and northwest side re-elected Daley by a land slide. And who lives there city workers.
4:44AM - City v Suburb property taxes, completely agree. Higher property taxes in the city will only increase the brain/tax base drain when it's time to decide whether to move school aged kids out to the burbs. Yet another reason to do so.
Police service?
Unfamiliar with that living in 19, down what 50% from the merger, all to wage a war against Charles Darwin south and west.
Front page of todays sun-times has article about Madigan helping large companies get property tax cuts!
Bottom line, this whole thing is Daley's fault and Mayor Murder is a complete fucking pussy for not pointing the finger a Daley.
I think that a lot of people are and will be smart enough to know that the underfunding is in no way the fault of coppers (they paid their fare share) and is completely the fault of Daley the DemoncRAT.
This is a point that really needs to be driven home to the public. That way, Mayor Pothole will look like the complete fucking dick that he is if he attempts to cast coppers as the fall guy/bad guy in all of this.
Returning to Daley, he was the architect of all of this financial fuckery, no doubt. But he one was right on at least one observation: property tax increases are the the third rail of politics.
And when this property tax hike hits (and unfortunately it probably will) WHOEVER is in office will be toast.
Taxpayers will get their bill, explode thru the roof with anger, and be incapable of listening to any rationalization. They will take out their anger on whomever is in office at the time.
Raid the TIF funds. Its our money!
Or go borrow it in the bond market. Sure, our credit rating sucks, and we'll probably have to pay some hefty juice. But we've been doing deficit spending for years to keep the money-for-shitheads programs afloat, so why stop now?
Not a cop. Just a guy who pays a lot in property taxes.

And the only people who love to tax everything under the sun are democrats/progressives, which is why businesses and good paying jobs have fled the city. Democrats/progressives are the only people who will tell everyone that part-time at McDonald's or Starbuck is a good job and then demand that those establishment pay their employees $15 or more an hour because jobs that would normally pay those wages are no where to be found in Chicago.
The police and fire will be made out to be the bad guys when the property tax increase hits the public. The landlords will be hitting their tenants also, so no one will be spared.
6/16/2014 12:58:00 AM
-----------------------------
I AM a landlord and I HAVE already been communicating that message to my tenants. 1) Expect rent increases, 2) Starting next year, 3) This is all caused by the financial mis-management of the Democrats, 4) and if you think you can avoid this by moving out of my apt and into another one down the street, well fuhgetaboutit, as every other landlord is going to doing the exact same thing.
Always fun and sad to see the looks on their faces....."Oh you mean this is really going to affect ME?" Uh, yeah.
Seems all the young, democratic liberals suddenly develop conservative Republican leanings when it his THEM in the pocketbook.
Spread the word.

Votes,thats why.
The police and fire will be made out to be the bad guys when the property tax increase hits the public. The landlords will be hitting their tenants also, so no one will be spared.
Renters will get hit worse than the homeowners. Landlords usually double the tax increase and pass it on to the renters blaming the new property taxes. They get a $100 tax increase pure apartment and charge the tenants $200 more.
There is no reason for a property tax increase as long as they have a BILLION dollars saved in those TIF accounts. They are using the issue of the city owing its pension payment as an excuse to raise taxes for other pet projects e.g. maggie park, bike lanes, ceasefire, depaul stadium, cta renovations, etc. The city is not broke people!!

Wow. So clueless. I feel sorry for any rational person who must consistently interact with you.
Suburban jerk-off here. I can tell you that property taxes in the burbs are much higher than they were when I lived in Chicago. Probably safe to say that property taxes are artificially low, comparitively. Granted though, every other tax is sky high.
Once city property owners are paying suburban rates, but still getting the same poor (or worse) return on their tax money with city services… well, there will be little reason for many property owners NOT to move out to the suburbs. What's left of the middle class in Chicago will leave at that point.
Lotsa luck, guys.

YOU ARE AN ASSWIPE !!!!
The public, city taxpayers, can give two shits about police and fire pensions because all they're hearing from the media is that real estate tax increases will pay for them. They're oblivious and ignorant to everything else. Nobody is complaining about a $3.50 phone fee as Dems hand out free phone once a month?
By Democrat design, Obama was setup in the White House, Rahm was yanked out of the WH to cover up Daley's bookkeeping, Madigan and the Quinn will authorize any and all tax increases all while continuing to spend these added revenues on gov'mint programs.
And the same assholes who voted in Daley, Obama Blago-Quinn, Madigan and Rahm would do again.
So who's got a beef?
Several retired guys have approached some aldermen with some revenue ideas. From what I understand, two aldermen canceled the meeting and the rest were stonewalled.
Also get rid of sanctuary city status for illegal immigrants and their kids!! How many hundreds of millions is the city paying for housing, medical, and education for these people ??
Why are these options not on the table Rahm ??
6/16/2014 04:42:00 AM
Because Rahm is a professional, career, privileged politician, He's looking for that support and those VOTES down the road.
He SUPPORTS sanctuary status and he ADVOCATES for pouring our tax dollars down that hole.
Before they put the final nail in the coffin of the middle class, let’s try to cut out the waste. A forensic audit from topto bottom is a start. Wages have been stagnant but government is confiscating a greater and greater percentage of the working class's take home pay. As the population of those collecting freebies multiplies like yucky pathogens in a petri dish, working class people must take a stand and say enough is enough. Elected officials are all millionaires or the 1% through all the legal federal, state and municipal legal work as a representative of the common people. Elected officials hunger for more power and more personal wealth creation at any cost. Costs whether it be in the form of taxes, energy, regulation and compliance is just a cost passed onto you the consumer.
If my property taxes go up, I'm thinking that its time to hire Illinois Speaker of the House Mike Madigan and his cabal of legal snakes. Their "clients" always seem to make out somehow wiggling out of property taxes which denies babysitting and nutritional services to the school children. The school children congers up more sympathetic emotions than police and fire. Its not known how Madigan's law firm is just so successful in property tax avoidance schemes. Probably just good lawyering and legislative lobbying efforts.
Don't for about casino money and tax from marijuana. Those will come to fruition when the union concessions are made.
Build the casino in the east building of McCormick. Let the suckers pay the pension bill.
"The only people who are anti-tax and hate taxes are arch conservatives and radical republicans."
The city, county, and state are run by DEMOCRATS!
But, you're right, we are all so stupid we'll blame radical conservative fringe element climate change denying racist republicans.
Phew! Disaster averted.
maybe someone should check the Madigan Tax Break Business for his friends that use his law firm
Good bye Chicago, here comes Detroit.
How about charging a transport fee when you get arrested kind of like what you get charged by the fire departments when you need transport to a hospital? That way at least you get something when these judges throw out these cases. I say a $300 charge is appropriate for our time, mileage, service etc.. Better than that stupid ANOV for weed bullshit
Just read today's Chicago sun-times looks like latest investigation is how madigan gets huge tax breaks for his friends that are millionaires, while we the people that actually work pay the increasing income taxes, as rahm holds what 2 billion in tif money that taxpayers paid for his private piggy bank! The pension crisis could be solved quickly if the money was put into pension plans from our tuf money!
On another note was driving down central northbound from 63 st when I notice this jalopy gray van speeding by,the windows in the rear smashed out, lights hanging off, 2 gypsy looking guys in front seats, and what do I notice on side "Quinn madigan service vehicle" on the rear inbred spray paint "stay back" wtf is this? All the money madigan has in campaign money and this pos van! Talk about a rolling hazardous vehicle! No not giving the plates as the rear plate was so badly displayed but again he is "above the law" madigan makes laws then breaks laws!
The effing money, at least part of it, is already available there.
It's just that the mayor choses to
give it to his "associates", spend
it on "feel-good projects", and sit
on the rest. His motto, "it's better to have money and don't need
it than to need money and don't have
it". This sucker makes Don Corleone
look like a chump.
"The tax hike is necessary and going to a good cause. The only people who are anti-tax and hate taxes are arch conservatives and radical republicans."
Spoken like a true idiot. How about a new tax on YOU, in the form of a reduction of your future pension? How would you like THAT? Oh, that's right, taxes are wonderful, unless they're imposed on YOU. Douchebag.
Why doesn't the FOP take the City of Chicago to court and sue making the city use the billions of TIF monies to pay the pension debt?
The TIF funds should be made illegal, they divert money from the general fund for Mayoral kickback schemes and hurt the taxpayer.
Time for anyone who can to flee Chicago and Illinois in general.
It's obvious the collapse is near at hand.
If Rahm gets re-elected expect the largest tax increases in the history of Chicago.
Vote for anyone, except Rahmie the Commie!
Illinois is imploding!
Time to bail to Texas, North Carolina, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Alaska, Utah or Indiana.
Expect property taxes, income taxes, cellular phone taxes, sin taxes, tolls and excise taxes to rise exponentially in Illinois.
Rahm, Madigan, Quinn and Rauner = High Taxes, Loss of Services and Loss of Civil Service Sector Employee Benefits.
The first thing that they can do is audit every connected person who lives in Chicago and I think they will find they are paying way less in property taxes then they should. New construction is taxed at 2.25% in Cook County. Ald. Burke build a new home and is paying way less then that. Do you think that this was by accident? Gutiérrez was caught with under assessed property for another and I am sure there are plenty more out there. The dems control the assessors office and the attorneys who file the appeals are all connected ( Madigan for one).
Property taxes are much lower in Chicago then in other major cities and in the Chicago burbs. Lower by thousands. Wait until the teachers pension fund has to be saved in the next few years. It is one billion in the hole and climbing. The teachers pension is much better then the city police and fire.
"Giant Property Tax Hike Coming"
---
It's about time. RE taxes are artificially low here due to Daley and now we can see a little of how he kept getting elected. He ran a once financially sound city government into the ground and bailed out when it began to collapse.
Taxes need to go up to keep pace with suburbs and then there will likely be enough to fund pensions like there was before Daley began playing his games.
Start laying fines on Trump the Chump for that ugly sign on his building. Charge by the letter-foot.
how much tax payer money is paying for Ma Daley Park on Monroe that's being built; just wondering
Ahh the truth. The media shall not speak evil of the former king.now, we are left holding the bag.
" The tax hike is necessary and going to a good cause" ????? Then you go on to blame republicans.
Your an idiot. Through constant corruption and mismanagement has created this financial mess. The Dems were behind the wheel. Look at Indiana. Rep. Gov- in the black, NOT red!
Good, no pension no raise higher health care cost and add a property tax increase! Great way to treat city employees
anyone who votes for a democrat at this point is an idiot.
And here is the really fun news that I have not heard mentioned on one News/Talking head Show.
Police, Fire and most City Workers HAVE TO live in the City.
Most retirees stay in the city to be close to their families.
So.....Police, Fire, and others get to have;
Their Pensions Cut,
Their Contributions Raised,
Their Healthcare Costs Raised,
Their Retirement Age Raised,
WHILE THEY ALSO GET TO:
Pay the higher Real Estate Tax,
Pay the higher City Sticker,
Pay the higher Water/Sewer Tax,
Pay the higher etc, etc, etc.....
This is added onto the average 60 percent penalty Gov Workers get deducted if they put in the required quarters for Soc Sec.
Thanks to Ex Con P.O.S. Dan "the stamp thief" Rostenkowski.
SHARED SACRAFICE MY ASS!
Calling my R E agent.......bye Chicago....I will live in Gary rather living in this fucked up state and city. Fuck Daley, Rahm and all the crooks.

The voters who enabled Daley and his band of thieves should spit into the wind.
If it wasn't for the heroic efforts of the FOP, our pension would be insolvent on December 31, 2018 instead of January 1, 2019.
They will not raise property taxes to the hilt because downtown offices would go vacant in 2 months with companies telling employees to work from home until the company moves out of state.
Pensions are going to be cut. Constitution or no, pension payments will be halved by the Illinois Supreme Court before 2017.
Prepare yourself.
Hey y'all...
And both craven, coward-assed local rags "re-contented" themselves so that there will be no fresh, hot and lively online commentary and debate on this (and other "controversial" topics) to shield Rahm from much deserved criticism and give the appearance that EVERYONE supports Rahm's agenda.... Which is the hoped for result... As we're seeing in the national media.
"Rahm is kicking ass and getting things done in Chicago isn't he?"
Dafuck he is... His stay in Chicago has been nothing but an extended paid fund raiser at the total expense and detriment of what is left of Chicago's intentionally destroyed, formerly formidable middle class.
To say nothing of the misery directly and purposefully inflicted on the captive component (Police, Fire, Teachers) of this formerly formidable middle class bearing the brunt of the "Operation Great Hate" criminal/political media propaganda campaign to separate them from the public's goodwill.
This is so that when they're busted out of their pensions and those monies are parceled off among Rahm's Wall Street friends to profiteer obscenely while sucking them dry.
Think the Miriam Santos related fiscal bojankery but with NO ONE in Rahm & Co. lending even the slightest pretense of promoting/protecting our financial interest.
TRUTH: Muni employee pension money are the last. big honey pots of relatively unmolested "other people's money" laying around. Wall Street was laying the ground work for "The Great Muni Employee Divesture" even as they were moving to wreck the retirement security of regular people starting around 25 years ago.
"We can't have all that free money layin' around doin' nuttin' for US!"
Anybody remember the "ORIGINAL" form of a bail-out?
Money for the tax payers to stimulate the economy?
"Pay your bills and sock some away Mr. & Mrs. Tax Payer!"
The banks, credit card companies, mortgage companies all moaned, cried and shitted to their friends on Capitol Hill.
"Waaaahhhh! Don't give 'em that money! They're gonna pay off balances and try to get us out of their pockets! Tell ya what... Bail US out and we'll pass some savings to THEM."
How did THAT work out America?
The tall trees in this country should be chock full of dangling CEO corpses for the ensuing financial crimes... The shit was flat out fucking treasonous and a threat to our national security and financial well being.
What crossroad are we standing at now America?
It sure the fuck ain't the intersection of Work & Prosper Road & Freedom Lane...
Hollow shit-asses like Flaming Tutu and "He Who Shall Remain Un-Named" bka "Himself" aka Sparkle-Farts are laughing up their sleeves as they pull up well padded chairs in front of those $25K plates.
Fuck these soulless bastards.
Fuck whoever sent them.
Fuck whoever gives them aid, support comfort and the elbow room to do what they're doing.
Ungoverned.
Unchecked.
Free to commit outrage after outrage.
Everybody is seemingly ok with this national backwards walking into the "New Equality" being orchestrated by these greasy, floaty loafered m/fers from Chicago.
Meanwhile...
"We're go an stick it in the Cops ear..."
"You guys are gonna have to learn to bleed"
They can't solve these hyperviolent m/fers who are the source and cause of the majority of "bleeding" in this city but they will ruthlessly beat the ever loving shit out of people who have rules to abide by to provide distraction from the fact that they don't have a cure for the wildassed, gun banging, car knocking m/fers who are out of control in this town?
Yeah... Priorities.
First things first, right Rahm?
Right local media?
What a shit show...
Why do they never talk about "Reforming" city council's pensions?
You're fucking stupid if you think your taxes are low now. And this proposed tax increase the unions are fighting for will drive down property values, thereby not solving anything and destroying the real estate market. Looks like it's time to sell my house.
Higher tastes can be a good thing.
http://nypost.com/2014/06/16/brooklyn-gentrification-is-changing-juries-who-decide-cases/
Yea We pay for our kids to go to Catholic schools to get a good education because CPS schools are so fucked up. Remember "THIS IS ARE STORY" for prom plugger from Robeson H.S. that passer the faculty-principal verification. And Rham wants to give future candidates extra pts for "graduating" from CPS. OMG HUH? Who me? FREE everything-even jobs they don't deserve-for these fucks. HUH? My baby. Mothafucka
The TIF funds, take in more than enough each year, to fund the pensions. Why is Ebay, a very profitable business, getting a 12 million dollar break on it's property taxes? End the corporate welfare.
Reason #98,756 why I'm glad that we finally convinced the wife's mother to move from Brighton Park -- I saw this bullshit coming.
When the wife told me what her mom's property tax bill was I could hardly believe it. Even accounting for the 'Senior Discount', for her house and lot size it seemed like it was unbelievably low.
And I mean UN-Fucking-Believably!!! low, and there was no way in hell that could go on. It would have to be raised, and for everyone, and 'soon.'
Well it looks like 'soon' has come.

A good cause? How much more money do we have to contribute out of our stagnated paychecks for a good cause? Millions of illegals, not paying many taxes and having large families we subsidize. I have 2 kids, that's all I could afford. Public aid families with no work requirements, having ever larger families with several different men that we subsidize including jail, jail is very expensive.
Taxes for global cooling, oops, that was when I was in high school. Global warming, that's it! Oh wait, no warming for 15 or 20 years now... Hmmm, I got it, CLIMATE CHANGE! Pay more for your electric bills because C02 is a pollutant? Close those coal fired electric plants, close those coal mines, it's for the children! Unemployment? hah! It's for the better!
We have an ocean of oil under South Dakota but, you have to frack to get it. Can't have that. Disturbance in the Middle East, raise gas to maybe $5 or $6 per gallon. Pay it, you shouldn't be in a car anyway. Get on the El and get apple picked, slave.
They cut our social security, now you want to squeeze our pensions? I know, we're greedy! How's that landline phone at home for calling emergency services that morphed from a phone at your physical address to a cell phone or two for everyone in your house, provided by the taxpayer, of course. Gee, I wonder why we can't balance the budget.
Raise the RTA tax and the first thing Blago did was give free rides to seniors, setting up a new funding problem 10 seconds after they solved the current funding problem.
Jimmy has some problem that prevents him from ever being employed. I believe shiftlessness, laziness, not paying attention during school, slavery and not getting enough love from his never present daddy entitles him to 40 years of SSI payments. Never paid in a dime, but how can you deny him, he's a victim! You, on the other hand, pay in for years and should be prepared to take a haircut because you have enough already.
Raise corporate taxes! No, corporations don't pay taxes. Their customers pay higher prices for those goods and services and that's where the money for the taxes comes from, your damn pocket.
Yes, I am a right winger and the government is too large and wasting more money than a little bit. The politicians are buying votes with my money and then ask for more. They've taken enough of my sweat, they've stolen enough from my dreams of what I could do, the wonderment of life and the realization that you just will never have enough to really live modestly because the tax man will steal your bread from your plate. While the cheering leftists egg him on. Take it! He's greedy! He has white privilege! Can anyone tell me just what I've done to become societies most hated creature? Jail? Nope. Public Aid? Nope. Take care of your kids? Yes. Drink or drug? No. Steal, rob or maim? No. Work hard for your whole life? Yes. Save for a rainy day? Yes. You and yours come forward for public service or military? Yes. On second thought, I don't have to explain myself, go fuck yourself and go pay the taxes yourself.
I am so frustrated and disappointed in people who should know better doing the cowardly thing and doing the revenue generating activity the bosses ask them for to appease them. When will people realize we are at war with City Hall?

People should spit when they see a Daley. I am not advocating spitting on him, that would be a battery. But spitting on the ground is legal and no one in Chicago deserves it more.
6/16/2014 05:24:00 AM
Spitting on the public ground is probably still a crime of some sorts by way of an old MCC law. So, if you are going to do something criminal anyways, just spit in the face of that cocksucker Daley who ruined this city. Take your lumps like a man! You know, get out on an I bond in a couple of hours and then just ignore the whole court process like the Canadians do.
The tax hike is necessary and going to a good cause. The only people who are anti-tax and hate taxes are arch conservatives and radical republicans.

Hey asshole, I'm not a radical, but how about cutting those social welfare programs that the pot smoking criminal that produces like jack rabbits uses? No, let's screw the working stiff.
FOP is not blameless.
In exchange for lowering the number of years needed to collect 75% they allowed the City to eliminate paying into the pension fund for several years.
Chomiak pointed out on this blog that was insane but FOP failed to listen.
The statement about free rent or housing and medical is a damn lie. Please stop spreading that myth. And everyone in Chicago pays some sort of tax. Sales, cell phone, water, soda,it all adds up. we did vote Magigan back into office every four years, he represents the 19th ward, most cops, firemen and law enforcement live there. Your union reps allowed your pension money to be invested by a Daley thief, not us. Blame them for 20 years of mistakes.
Hey, guess what, not only is everything going up, taxes, fees, etc....we city employees will have to cough it up! Will our contracts show equitable raises, I don't think so. You young coppers, keep getting hurt out there, the city politicians and citizens appreciate it!!!!!

So long as people are not the most highly taxed in world on every last form of taxation, the answer to every problem is raise taxes.
The property taxes are higher over there, the gas taxes are higher in europe, we don't even have a VAT tax yet. Oh how about a carbon tax? See the problem is, you're just not paying enough.
Never mind real rate of inflation and stagnate wages outside the government sector. Pay moar!

You are absolutely right. Every time a south and westside church has a registration event, the pols cave immediately. Where are our unions? This idea is a big win win.
6/16/2014 07:11:00 AM
Police and fire never vote in a bloc. Politicians are not scared of us. Most officers will not vote in elections. They are either lazy or want to avoid jury duty. Who you kidding? Now the democrats vote together so they win and reap the free rewards.
raise the poor working stiffs property taxes but give the big corporations tax incentives to re-locate here. Madigan is getting greased big time to help his pals in corporate Chicago get tax breaks. WE ARE FUCKED ONE CHICAGO
6/16/2014 10:49:00 AM
Well my friend, let me tell you EXACTLY how it is done.
Any owner of real estate has the right to appeal their property taxes. But unless you are an individual, you have to hire a lawyer.
Lawyers take these cases on a contingent fee basis. The bigger the savings/reduction, the bigger the fee to the lawyer. This creates an overwhelming incentive for the attorney to win.
The Cook County Assessor (Joe "The Ethics Rules Don't Apply to Me" Berrios) is an elected official. He accepts campaign contributions. And who are his biggest donors? The property tax lawyers! This creates an overwhelming incentive for Berrios to see those attorneys win their cases.
You'd think the Cook County Assessor's office was some dark little office where nerdy guys pour over spreadsheets and pictures of buildings. Think again.
Back when Houlihan was the Assessor, Houlihan got more campaign contributions than any other County official. And I am sure that continues under Joe "I'll hire all the friends and relatives I want to" Berrios' reign today.
And Berrios of course is also head of the Cook County Democratic Party. Amazing how that works, eh?
But its all legit. Really. Its all sanctioned by Springfield. And Springfield, of course, is controlled by (drum roll please) Madigan!
Da grease, da grease. It's all about da grease.
Our taxes will go up, but the rats will still be allowed to live a block from the lake and minutes from the Mag Mile for $40 a month.
Property taxes...twice a year when the mailman delivers that envelope, I wanna knock him out!
Especially when you see how much goes to schools and despite not being a parent.
And there's always an increase unless you hire Berrios' friend to get your taxes reduced who seems to have all our names for his mailings. And he gets it done and takes half for doing so.
This also knocks the cheese off my cracker: Why the fuck do I have to pay tuition for some one elses kids?
My parents paid for my grammar school education-High School too.
Very simple chant,"Dump The TIFS and Pay Your Stiffs".
Soon they will tax the air we breathe. I had a tire changed today and when I looked at my bill it said IL Tire user TAX $2.50. WTF is that???
That's bs when you think about it. It's a spin to make Chicagoans feel like they have been getting a break while suburbs have paid more. Suburbs pay more because they are fewer residents to pay for services such as police, fire, hospitals, utilities, parks, etc. plus the houses are on larger lots. Chicago has more residents and taxes are already high enough to pay for everything. You can't compare apples to oranges. Just another way to bamboozle residents. This place is turning into California or Ney York where it is too expensive to live.
FOP in bed with City Hall and will roll over at Rahmmie the Commies beconed call. Call payroll, withhold dues Now. Next step, dump them completely. Not a real Union anyway, money-wasting and corrupt, along with very bad decisions last few decades. Too much dead weight at the top, soaking up Members Dues dollars.
And what do you suppose the effect on businesses will be when the higher property tax hits?
First and foremost, people need jobs. You think the exodus of jobs out of Illinois is big now? Wait till this starts pushing jobs out of Chicago.
6/16/2014 08:24:00 AM
They won't have to pay taxes, as usual only citizens. Companies get incentives not to pay as much as citizens must.
The best thing to do is vote out ALL Illinois, Chicago, Crook County, etc. DEMOCRAT (Communist) Politicians. Then hope for some honest and fiscally reaponsible Political Leadership like Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, who turned the State around into a success financially. Hope and pray for this if you plan on or have to stay in Illinois. It's your ONLY hope.

A good cause? How much more money do we have to contribute out of our stagnated paychecks for a good cause?

You just answered all the questions that pertain to this problem:
YOUR fucking income problem is YOUR problem that YOU refuse to address, so when taxes have to be raised to meet government obligations because YOU refuse to increase your income, it's then YOUR fault that government needs to raise taxes.
Try looking where the fucking fault lies: IN THE SCUMBAG CORPORATE WHORES THAT HAVE BEEN TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR ASS FOR THE LAST 2 DECADES BY FUCKING YOU ON WAGES WHILE THEY'VE BEEN SUCKING UP HIGHER AND HIGHER PROFITS AND SHITTING ON YOU.
But yeah, go blame the government employee for not being like one of you who's too fucking lazy to fight against his employer's theft of your labor, it's so much easier to just cry that there's always some other fuck who's willing to eat shit for some corporate fuckhead or other "job creator" who's forcing you to eat shit at work.
Grow the fuck up... if you lack the balls and power to coerce your employer to pay you a fair fucking wage based upon their ever increasing profit margins the GO FUCKING JOIN A UNION and use the same power you cry about here to better your own fucking situation.
Then government can keep taxes lower because you're all making more fucking money.
Or is it just easier to sit on the couch and let the corporate fuckers in the world tell you who your fucking problem is while you just eat their shit and cry about government employees?
Spoken like a true idiot. How about a new tax on YOU, in the form of a reduction of your future pension? How would you like THAT? Oh, that's right, taxes are wonderful, unless they're imposed on YOU. Douchebag.
6/16/2014 11:55:00 AM
Hey "douchebag".... the fucking taxes ARE imposed on city employees dipshit!
You're that fucking stupid that you haven't got a clue that city employees HAVE to live in Chicago, therefore pay the same fucking tax hikes you do or are you truly that fucking stupid that you actually somehow just believe the inference by the media that city employees somehow don't pay fucking taxes in Chicago or Illinois?
City employees pay the same fucking tax increase every other motherfucker in this city pays, and if they have to take hits to their pension on top of it then YOU are getting away with theft because YOU'RE not taking the same hit city employees are.
You don't get it both ways pal, either we all pay more or the illegal TIF scam gets dissolved to pay for city services as it lawfully should.
Don't think for a second that city employees should be forced to take fucking cuts AND pay the same hikes everyone else does.... the fault doesn't lie with us and we're not going to pay more than anyone else in this city or state does to pay for government services.
"Mr Mayor--( I know you follow this blog) Declare an emergency, get the law changed and just use the TIF money"

Boy, did you oversimplify the issue!!. Madigan does not represent the 19th ward by the way. And, yes, there is free housing and free medical ( ever hear of the ER or County Care or Medicare or city clinics), free medical for all children in the state to include hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrant children, free education that comes with two meals a day for free and now they are talking about adding dinner, Yes, everyone pays some sort of tax, but the middle class pays the most in the form of property taxes and income tax, way more then some person buying beans and soda on a LINK card. Get your head out of your ass liberal person who trolls this blog. When the middle class moves out as happened in Detroit, the town goes belly up as it cannot survive on those who just take from others.

There is another way through this scumocrat crisis...legalize marijuana.
Look at the tax revenues generated in Colorado and Washington state. Millions of dollars every month in so-called "sin" taxes.

One reason the city property taxes are low compared to the suburbs is that the suburbs are subsidizing CPS. Suburbs schools are over 90% funded from local property taxes, Chicago 56%.
1.5 cola is for those born after 1955.
6/16/2014 04:57:00 PM
Not exactly.
The 1.5% COLA is for those born after 31 December 1954.
"suburbs are subsidizing CPS"
Cuts both ways. State funds teacher pensions outside of Chicago, which includes our income tax dollars. We fund teacher pensions in Chicago with property tax, which does not include suburban contributions.
One reason the city property taxes are low compared to the suburbs is that the suburbs are subsidizing CPS. Suburbs schools are over 90% funded from local property taxes, Chicago 56%.
Not sure you are right about that What I do know is 51% of my property tax in Chicago goes to the CPS. I also know my Illinois state income tax pays for the pensions of suburban and downstate teachers so the way I figure it,I'm subsidizing both.
No way Supreme Court will not rule against the constution. Politicians will scare the public employees into accepting a reduced pension. It has happened in the last year and no court ruling came down that says your pension can be diminished. It will be negotiated with our unions.
6/17/2014 06:21:00 PM
No one is saying the court will rule against the state constitution, but if they rule that the new pension bills do not violate the spirit of the constitution then the changes will go through and will alter your pension. There are many people who think that will happen. That is why we have so many lawyers and so many opinions.
The Feds should look at the property taxes of every member of the political class, what they pay and how their property was assessed. Start with Burke and go on to Little Louie for starters.
How about raising prices on city stickers to raise money? All the people living in apartments and low income housing can share the bill for public services they use. That seems fairer than punishing people who own property.

Lots of people in apartments have ZERO cars. But their landlords DO have tax bills, which DO get passed on to the renters, in the form of higher rents.

Usually double the actual property tax increase. Ive seen landlords get a $25 a month tax increase for each apartment in the building and pass on a $50-$100 rent increase a month blaming the higher property tax.
