What's with all the misbehavior at Humboldt Park and the surrounding areas lately? Is there some sort of festival going on or something? There seems to be a bunch of guns, gang incidents, people getting shot, people getting hit in traffic. It all seems to be centered around some giant party of some sort.
Didn't they cancel the Southside Irish Parade for a few years because of a bunch of drunk children?
So why is this acceptable in 014?

It's a governmental sanctioned process called thinning the herd.
People are just celebrating the coming of spring/summer and getting high on life itself. Don't be a party pooper.
As the 'Bosses' readily informed us...numerous times throughout a protracted roll-call....it a family event. Just stay away from North/Sawyer or anywhere East of the park and you'll agree.

Yet another celebration of bad behavior tolerated in the name of DIVERSITY. Stop complaining you racist.
Wait until the last Sunday of June when the Gay Pride Parade and activities kick off. This should be a doozy. Last year they had to call in tact and incident teams from all over the city to quell the trouble and clear the streets.
Just high spirits and having fun celebrating what a great life it is. People need a little party time and time to relax from the daily grind.

I've been working P.R. fest for a very long time. This year was very slow, nothing compared to years past. I used to see 200 Latin Kings on each corner completely shutting streets down. 100s of gang bangers were locked up. Not anymore. This year there were very few problems and the shootings didn't start until 3am. Each year has been easier than the last.
The clueless victims/hipsters/yuppies moving into "West Bucktown" aka Humboldt Park have been raising property values and pushing the gang bangers in the area further west and into 016.
Wait it a minute, the white race is so innocent, everyone in our own time somewhere, somehow used violence to control people. It just so happens that it's the time of gangs...and it's just so happens to be minority. So don't play the innocent game.

Politicians know they can get away with punishing White folks but certainly not with minorities. The events around Humboldt Park have been unruly for years. Nothing new. Retired now but I can recall my Dad telling us that back in the day as kids they used to sleep in the park on hot summer nights. Do that today and you would wake up dead.

But I don't see why there'd be any 'misbehavior' going on?? We just had our '31st Annual Village Jubilee' during the same period and we didn't have any issues at all. No guns, no gangs, no gang incidents, no one getting shot, nobody getting hit by cars.
And we never have, not in all those years. I doubt if anyone ever got busted for something like a fight over a girl. Or for trying to sneak onto the Tilt-A-Whirl without a ticket :-) Any arrest would have been in our local paper or weekly village newsletter.
Now maybe we're just a bunch of boring suburbanites and don't have that "rich cultural heritage" of Puerto Ricans which can 'raise emotions'.

Yes, it can be bad in Humboldt Park since the Polish were kicked out by the PRs. But, it is not as bad now as it was in the 70's.

Accurate except for the fest being extended. I worked the fest that day. The DC held his ground and closed the fest on time.

I worked it two nights and it was easy. Nothing really going down during my shifts. I told my po's (ppos) to keep the small stuff off the radio because it would get blown up when situations were actually nothing. It was a nice break from the westside. A handful of cars could of cut the bs driving around the perimeter like idiots down in almost no time but no one apparently was assigned to deal with that. Overall, not that bad at all. Next time I'll have to remember the sunscreen though.
Difference is the neighborhood wanted parade cancelled to get rid of riffraff from suburbs . It is now a fun ,neighborhood family parade again .
