I could not wait for the first bar and when I did I was salty ate nails and spit bullets and knew a lot and had stories of my own! At two bars I was hard kicked ass and had ribbons for the heroic deeds I was a real copper! At three bars did just about everything don't tell me how to do the job! And when I got my star, KISS MY ASS club started counting time to retirement don't do shit! Retirement mode! And now that I'am retired I'll give my left arm to be back on the job!

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! and thanks for providing this public forum.
I would like to ask you to run a post that asks retiree's to share their stories of the raw deals they have had with the city health contract that Blue Cross Blue Shield administers for us.
Here is my latest hair pulling story of dealing with our medical/pharmacy provider.
I have been using two drugs for many years and their effectiveness has declined. Two new drugs were prescribed to me and I have had considerable improvement in my condition.
However, they are new to the market and are non-formulary per the cities plan which uses Caremark/CVS as the provider.
Therefore, they are ineligible for the name brand non-generic mail order service which would charge $65.00 for a three month supply. Even though they are a maintenance drug, I can still buy them monthly at CVS for a combined price of $165.00. Multiply that by 3 and a 3 month supply equals $495.00. Only $430.00 more than the 3 month mail order name brand cost. Only $1,330.00 more a year. What a deal!
To add insult to injury, all maintenance drugs can only be filled twice at the pharmacy before you are REQUIRED to start using the mail order service even if they can be bought less expensively over the counter.i.e: a generic that would cost only nine dollars a month now has to be mail ordered for $26.00.
They have no problem making you pay more for a mail order generic but won't step up and pay for a life enhancing new drug. The city contract does not care if it threatens your health.
And for the citizens out there that will say I receive this secondary insurance free, no, the cost is paid directly out of my pension check.
SCC, once again, please consider running a dedicated post for how Rahm and the city fucks over us retirees yet pats itself on the back publicly through their announcements that they have graciously extended our benefits.
It's a shot in the dark as to how many will respond with their stories of despair. And equally uncertain how or whether any news outlet, sympathetic politician or even the FOP will utilize the post. But.....at least you can put it in the public eye.
Feel free to use all, any, or none of this entire comment within such a post. This was not written to be included as a whole in your Birthday post but as a plea to bring our plight to the public eye.

Now get ur PoPo viewers to register to vote, along with family and friends. U to other Chi Town city workers/unions. The PoPo dept. has approx. 25% registered voters, of that, only 5% ever vote. We won't get diddly squat from tiny-dancer-rahm with these type of numbers. And if we don't, it's are own fault!

To 07;07 post, I agree, I spent a lot of years on the job and stayed until 63. I had an ass kicking job and yes over the years had my share of crappy bosses and working conditions, retired as a Sgt. I thought that I took real good care of the men and women, never ask anyone to do anything that I would not do, many times did stuff myself. I had a nice sendoff, but I miss the fun of daily jokes, ball busting and so on, I think the people who don't look back are the dog asses who really never wanted the job and took it just to have a job, and really were never the police. But life moves on, and I say a prayer for all of you that are out there working the streets. This job provided well for my family and myself. It is like the Marines: Once the POLICE, always the POLICE !!!!
