Two a Day Dead
- Fourteen people were murdered throughout Chicago last week — including two people in their 50s.
Nine of the murders happened on South Side, four on the West Side and one on the North Side. The Austin community had the most killings last week with three.
- Seven people have been shot tonight including a 14-year-old at a coin laundry in the South Chicago neighborhood, authorities said.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said an EMS Plan I, which automatically sends at least five ambulances to the scene, was called about 8:20 p.m. for a shooting in the 7900 block of South Marquette Avenue.
Many of the victims were "laid out" on the floor of the coin laundry in the 2600 block of East 79th Street, said Langford. The laundry's glass window was shattered and police are running around trying to interview people, said Langford.
Someone said that there isn't any video of the shooting, so it must not have happened. Careful, or that will be the new CompStat standard.

I'm a copper out west, PHX. Born and raised in Chicago. Chicago always has had a high number of homicides and will. Your sitting at your average, give or take a little, and you guys act like it's something new. The 90's were horrible. Shooting and homicide numbers wont drop much. CPD can make a difference with the blatant daytime shootings, the shootings with multiple victims and the youth mobs. They just need to bring back your SOS, or whatever you called it. Remame it ...something like Neighborhood Response Unit / Squad...has a neighborhood feel to it or Neighborhood Enforcement Team. Your Super is a softball and says that type of policing plants distrust in the community. He was out of his mind when he said that and still believes it. Until Rham gets rid of him and brings that traditional policing back, the numbers wont change. Need those cops jumpin out of cars making stops, not tied to a radio. Its true anywhere in America and for sure in Chiraq. Rham needs to wake up and give the green light to crush crime...the overall murder number wont loose his reelection, IT WILL be the numerous high profile murders and shootings with a half dozen or more victims....because the simple minded even know that's ridiculous and the mice in their heads go round and round making them think its far worse then City Hall says...you can't lie about those numbers.

1249 am you said it best. The biggest mistake this goof made was to get rid of MSF, And before people start slamming me, I was not even in that unit. If a new unit is established, many officers may think twice to apply because of how officers were dumped from MSF. Many officers took spots in MSF thinking it was a long term spot and never expected to get launched. The whole purpose for that unit was to saturate and deploy where needed. Crime will continue, unless more officers are hired and officers are placed where they are needed with cars and not no bs foot post of ppo. Do you really think officers feel safe walking around in an area surrounded by savages in the worst parts of the city? Give these officers cars, allow them to be the police and be comfortable doing their job. How do you serve and protect when you are not protected walking a foot post with serveral other ppo who have no experience dealing with these animals. Give these officers the tools they need and allow them to be the police. Foot post in downtown I totally agree but foot post in the ghetto abandon buildings in crime saturated areas, hell no!!!!
The beat cars and tact team rounded up witnesses from the 79th Street shooting. Absent was the prestigious glorified gang intelligence unit. It seems they have regular Sat-Sun or Sun-Mon day off groups. The Patrol division works 4-2 rotating days off. No wonder why the weekends are up for grabs. Crimes like this get solved sooner if the best, brightest and knowledgeable gang experts were on the scene doing the investigating type work. Are they behind the scenes waiting for an investigative alert to be issued so they collar the perpetrator stealing the thunder and make department front page headlines? It seems more VRI cars responded then glory seeking plainclothes gang teams.

Worked VRI in that beat (004) recently. Lots of good, albeit poor folks (not Folks) living there. You can tell those houses that are kept up, and where the assholes stay. Even some PO's reside there.
