Cop's Sister Caught in Crossfire

  • Betty Howard was just going to be a minute. She left the hazard lights of her car flashing as she dashed into a real estate office along a busy stretch of East 79th Street in Chatham to drop off some paperwork at her second job.

As she talked and laughed with co-workers inside late Thursday afternoon, a gang dispute erupted on the street. Bullets tore through a wall, one grazing Louis Hardy, 58, who dived to the floor before noticing Howard lying nearby with a gunshot to the head.

“My mind is racing, I’m trying to decide how best I could help her,” Hardy recalled today.

Howard's eyes were wide open, as if she were pleading for help. Hardy said he bent down and told her, “Hold on. Help is on the way.”

    Howard died minutes later.
A decent responsible woman, a teacher with a second job selling real estate, gone before her time. Sympathies to the family of Ms. Howard.

In a world of "Perception v. Reality" how will Rahm blow this off? There is an ugly body count of CPS students already; now we will have a body count of teachers? This is a horrible loss, this was a Working Middle Class family, a daughter that was a teacher working two jobs and a son who was a cop. What a terrible, senseless tragedy.

He's not the one that pulled the trigger!
Tell the Mayor to let the Superintendent run the Department the way he desires and without Emanuals influence. That's where the problem is!

This isn't the fault of the police, nor of the Supt. The fault lies directly with the individual who would commit such a brazen act of violence; it also lies with an inept court system which fails to keep them off the streets for many years for these outrageous violent crimes.
A cop in every corner will not stop brazen disrespect for the law! Strict ENFORCEMENT of laws against those who commit these brazen acts of violence is the answer! If they're off the streets, they cannot hurt any more innocent people, period.
IF these violent thugs are juveniles, hold the parents accountable as well. Tired of parents walking around in full denial about their children's violent histories.

Next time you read a post containing the gleeful rubbing of hands over the ghetto shooting numbers, or "chalkie" bullshit, or clever(?) renditions of city stickers, try to remember that not all of these victims are worthless shitheads. The next one might be YOUR sister. In the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes, we know we're shorthanded, but stop celebrating the carnage. It really makes us look bad. Condolences to the family.

What a shame. When we see good citizens like her getting killed, it upsets me to hear the officers who say, "I ain't doing shit." I get that you have your reasons, just remember there are a lot of great people on the south and west side that need and deserve good police service. Unfortunately, we usually do not get the opportunity to interact with these citizens.

Mr. Mayor, get rid of the fool of a Supt and replace gim with a life long heavy hitter, Al Wysinger.
Al is a copper in everyway. Al will not play nice with these thugs who cause so many families to weep.
Time for change Mr. Mayor, Now ! This lady did nothing but good for the community.

The whole city, black and white should picket Rahm after this outstanding citizens murder.
Clean house Rahm. You really think throwing money away on the city schools will stop this. Get a brain Mr. Mayor.
The clergy who are bought and paid for in this city allow this to happen. 99 percent of the good people on the south and west sides cannot even walk to their car in fear of getting capped.
This murder is beyond sad. Rest easy in God's hand dear doctor.

Really? Stop in any area and look at the homicide boards, then look up each person killed. How many pay taxes, work, support their children and don't have felony arrests let alone convictions. Most of the homicide victims are ass holes that choose to live the way they do and are predador that don't give a shit about you. Which brings me to the next point.

This was a tragedy. There are, every year, a small number of innocent people who become homicide victims. You know who they are because they'll be all over the news, as they should be, and people like myself are outraged by them. But keep in mind the "legitimate" victim homicides are usually solved. The reason being is that there is cooperation from the families, friends and community, unlike the shit head victims.

I just ask chalkie to get the right ones from now on and leave the innocent alone.

The only way ghetto life in these Chicago neighborhoods will change is to start turning in these shit heads and speak up. Break the silence that has plagued the south and west side. The police, fire department not schools can fix this problem. The people in their own communities must make a stand to tolerate no more of these savage behavior and fight back even if that means turning in their own kids, friends, grand kids, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers-- get the picture. Only until people wake up and deal with their own family issues will anything change. 17years picking in this shit hole city and the only thing that hasn't changed is the savage mindset and the constant blame for everyone else being the cause if the ghettos problems. Sick of being a babysitter for the catered to population.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Ye now, therefore, have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” He said: “Go now—have sorrow.” 1. Human beings do not belong to one another. We are God’s children. We belong to him. It is by sheer grace that we are together for a time—for a little while. We receive God’s gift of another person in our lives with thanksgiving. But we must realize that this person is a gift—we cannot hang on, or refuse to let go of one of God’s children when he calls. 2. Betty Howard was a gift. One of God’s own tiny children. And, for a time, God gave Betty to the world. In order that two human beings might have a child. And, later, in order that a man might have a wife. And child might have a mother. And some other children might have a grandmother. For those children Betty defined what it means to have a mother, or a grandmother. And a woman came to know what it means to have a husband. And because of Betty, the world understood more fully the greatness of the love of God. God loved the world so much that he gave it Betty. And that was nice of God. 3. But now Betty Howard is dead, and the world won’t see her again. God took her back. That’s painful. And there is no way under heaven to minimize that pain. Jesus said, “Go now, therefore, and have sorrow.” We do not sorrow because God is cruel or unjust. The world did nothing to deserve Betty. God gave her to us freely. Not because we deserved it, but because he loved us. We are not sorrowing because God is unjust. We are sorrowing because Betty is gone. And that’s right. That’s just right. Jesus said, “Go and have sorrow.” A part of us is dead. That part of us that we called our mother, or our grandmother, or our friend. That part of us we called Betty is Gone. And we know the pain, and the emptiness, and the bitterness and the guilt, and the heartbreak all too well. We will never be the same. And that’s right, too. We can’t be “the same” ever again. 4. We are here to say good-bye to one of God’s tiny children. Jesus said ‘Ye now, therefore, have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” He said, “When you pray, say ‘Father.’” God loves Betty. And she belongs to him. She always has. For a time he gave her to the world. And now he has called her. And how we know emptiness. That’s the way it is with human beings. We are here today, reluctantly, to offer Betty back to God. In so doing we are offering ourselves. We are here boldly—to dare to say “Our Father” and to pray “Thy will be done.” We are here to trust God, and to love him, and to realize how much he loves us. We are here to say good-bye to Betty, one of God’s tiny children. And today we must let go of her hand. But in so doing we give it over to that of her heavenly Father. We cannot hang on. We must let go. But God has hold of her hand. And he will never let go. Amen.

Where is CPD?

You mean where is the completely depleted CPD? Where is the a CPD that can't be with their kids after school to play with them and help them with their homework? The CPD that spends holidays and weekends in shit neighborhoods where they are hated? Where momma mother f$&ks them because because their ass hole shot an 11 year old and we're picking on their baby boy? You mean the CPD that have huge pension problems, but still go to work every day because that's what they do? The CPD that march the first Sunday in May every year to honor their falllen?

People get murdered because ass holes kill them. Why don't I see the good reverends go on tv and all over the media when someone gets arrested for killing another human being? You know why? Because it's members of their own community's and god forbid you offend the community.

And you say they have taken it upon themselves to help the community? Has one of these reverends ever brought one of these offenders in for committing a murder or shooting or any other crime for that matter? Obviously their flock is immuned to criminal behavior because of their leadership.

These reverends are self serving con men who don't give a shit about the community.

Next time some moron gets arrested and changed for murder I challenge any one of these con men to go to the media and speak out against them. Good luck with that.
