Bring Out Yer Dead

  • Cook County has long been ridiculed for allowing dead people cast votes, but the state may have just garnered a new distinction.

It paid $12 million in health care for people who were already dead — including in one case, for a person who had died in 1989.

A new financial audit released by Auditor General Bill Holland’s office on Thursday found that the Illinois Department of Health and Family Services had 8,232 people still on Medicaid rolls qualifying for benefits, even though they were dead.

The state paid monthly premiums totaling almost $7 million for 561 people who had already been dead for an average of nearly two years before they were enrolled in a state managed care program.
The oddest part is that the last 561 people on the list were enrolled automatically by the government, who probably should have known they were dead, seeing as how they were in the Illinois Medicaid program.

But hey, Illinois is cracking down on bake sales and lemonade stands!
  • Illinois is renowned for our incredibly corrupt politicians. I've lost count how many of them have ended up in federal prison. This group of individuals is now trying to regulate little kid's lemonade stands and fund-raising bake sales.

We have SO many big issues to deal with in this state, and today, at around 6:20pm, the bill HB5354 passed in both houses. The link I provided is for the most current information on the Illinois General Assembly's website concerning this bill.

However, just before the vote tonight, the bill was amended again. It all happened so fast, that Illinois Senator Dan Duffy had to vote against it solely because he didn't have time to read it.
Be prompt with those taxes people - Illinois politicians are hungry.

"The state shut down Tinley Park Mental Health Center on June 30, 2012. But the state kept paying...

But check this out…

During a review of 220 equipment items reported to the Department of Central Management Services as lost, valued at $157,656, the auditors noted the following:

- For equipment items with either an acquisition cost in excess of $500 or deemed a high theft, Tinley Park reported 86 items were lost, valued at $123,772. This represented 10% of the total inventory dollar value and 13% of the total number of items on hand at Tinley Park’s closure date of July 1, 2012. […]

- Tinley Park reported it had lost a refrigerated van trailer, valued at $29,217, during its equipment inventory following the closure. [Emphasis added.]

The state also left behind a big junk yard…

The auditors identified equipment items, including furniture, 4 farm tractors, a forklift, and 10 inoperable State vehicles that were still on site within various buildings across the Tinley Park campus and had, presumably, been abandoned. The inoperable State vehicles appeared they had been inoperable for a considerable length of time. In addition, the auditors identified one vehicle that had been abandoned by a private person at Tinley Park after it was sold by the DCMS several years ago.

This was common at all the facilities checked…

At the Jacksonville Developmental Center, which closed on November 27, 2012, auditors found confidential information in trash receptacle...

Like thieves in the night they waited until midnight to run a bunch of bills thru while everyone is distracted by Blackhawk playoffs

In 90 seconds, the Senate approved a $1.1 billion road and bridge construction package 51-5. On its way to Quinn.

On there way to creating a bigger crisis that will not go to waste when they bust out the like Detroit and play the victims

Good. It's about time. Start looking into link fraud, wic fraud, ssi fraud, etc. We should be able to save many millions more. Also maybe put a limit on how much money can leave this country.

No problem, it's easy to understand. It is so much easier to regulate and control little kids lemonade stands and bake sales, than it is to address the state's real problems.

More shared sacrifice....

The State Legislature that is ripping apart midde class pensions and retirement security just gave the Uptown theatre 10 million dollars for renovations and gave themselves a bump in take home pay by eliminating unpaid vacation days.

Here is my suggestion when you next go into a voting booth. Vote AGAINST anyone who is seeking reelection. No incumbents should win.

in the Olympics of corruption, Chicago gets the gold, Cook County get the silver, Illinois gets the bronze (although maybe all three should share in the gold medal)

I know everyone blames Madigan for our woes (and I'm not absolving him of his share of responsibility), but it truly is the Senate Democrats who are at fault for the State's financial and social woes.

Thank God. I have always been wary to purchase overpriced ($0.25) cups of lemonade from grade schoolers without knowing the origin of ingredients & preparation method of said product. Hopefully this type of regulation will lead, not only to a healthier lifestyle as defined by the first lady's "let's move" initiative, but curb the excessive profits by these fly-by-night unpermitted curbside businesses.

Maybe they need to video tape people who are receiving healthcare? Na, it's just taxpayer money at risk, and there's plenty of that to go around. So tax the lemonade stands to pay for healthcare of dead people.

SRINGFIELD — State lawmakers approved a budget Friday that shortchanged a presidential library for President Barack Obama, gives House Speaker Michael Madigan a brand-new $35 million grade school in his ward and managed to unite Gov. Pat Quinn and GOP rival Bruce Rauner on one thing.

Illinois' next governor now faces the prospect of figuring out how to deal with a projected budget hole of $4.8 billion and a pile of unpaid, overdue bills that could be even larger than that.

Wow. Illinois is facing a $4.8 BILLION deficit, and Madigan gets $35 Million to build a new school I am sure we do not need.

While police and fire get zilch.

Great fiscal restraint Mr Madigan.

We need a real leader, not a rip-off artist.

Hey Mikey-boy, go fuck yourself!

OK, we see and know about the uncovered fraud.
Who was prosecuted for this?
After all, 12 million was paid out on behalf of dead individuals who were receiving services under a false identity.
Again, who and how many were prosecuted.
Hey you, in charge of those crickets... "hit it sweetheart!"

It just goes to show you what a simpleton Northside Putz that gov Quinn is. What an embarrassment he is to Weber HS and Northsiders in general.
There is a message here for the dumbbell the real governor Madigan is telling him that's all that he is permitted to pass in the legislature " Lemonaid stands and bake sales". He is telling him that he runs the state and next session sit down and wait for Southdide instruction on what to do.
