What happens when you strip more police from the "low crime" areas?
- Imagine walking into a gas station and right into the middle of a robbery. It happened in Portage Park and surveillance cameras were rolling.
[...] The clerk and a female customers were tied up with plastic zip ties along with two more customers who walked in during the robbery.
“He was like, ‘You know I can shoot you, right? I can shoot you. Don’t move,’” said store clerk Mudassir Mohammed.
The threats were backed up with a handgun aimed at the convenience store clerk behind the counter Monday night.
Muddassir Mohammed says just after 9:45 p.m. a pair robbers, a man in a red hat and a female in a white hat, acted like customers at first when they entered the Citgo store near Milwaukee and Berteau in the Portage Park neighborhood. The man was wielding a gun and demanded cash from the register.
- Police are warning the public on the Northwest Side to be wary following two home invasions this month.
Most recently, Monday about 1:05 p.m. in the 6300 block of North Lowell Avenue in the city’s Sauganash neighborhood, two or three attackers forced their way into the victims’ home, showed a handgun and searched the house, according to police.
An earlier similar incident happened June 7 about 9:50 p.m. in the 5800 block of North Jersey Avenue in the Hollywood Park neighborhood. Police believe that the same people are responsible.
During one invasion, shots were fired and during the other attack, they told the victims they “were the police and they were looking for someone,’’ according to police.
The three attackers are all described as black males about 5-foot-7, and 150 pounds, they each wore a ski mask or hooded sweatshirt pulled tight police said.
Well, at least htey described the attackers in the second incident. Careful up north boys and girls.

Police Move In As Party Spills Over Preserve

An attempt by police to break up a gathering of thousands of people in a Cook County Forest Preserve near Schiller Park on Sunday afternoon resulted in at least a dozen arrests and injuries to both police officers and participants.
Authorities said that as the crowd got out of control on the Northwest Side and in neighboring suburbs, they shut down streets clogged with participants and called in extra units from 15 law enforcement departments. The melee peaked as some 150 police officers faced a shower of bottles from a portion of the crowd at a Melrose Park shopping center, officials said.
One man was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm in the Forest Preserve, and a woman was sexually assaulted at the shopping center, police said.
Organizers of the event said in their permit application that 2,000 people were expected at the gathering in Schiller Woods, called "Freaknic," according to Steve Mayberry, a spokesman for the Forest Preserve District. Instead, 8,000 to 12,000 people showed up, prompting police to shut down the event at about 4 p.m., he said.
At that point, according to authorities, the gathering got out of control as participants took to neighboring streets. Order was restored by about 8 p.m.
"The impression I got was it was just too many people in the same place at the same time," said Cook County sheriff's police spokesman Bill Cunningham.
Sunday's event was patterned after a celebration of black college students held each spring in Atlanta, participants said. It was the second one held in Chicago.
Among the injured were two Chicago police officers who were taken to Resurrection Medical Center for minor injuries. Forest Preserve Supt. Joseph Nevius said the man shot in the arm was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, where he was listed in good condition.
"It was just going crazy," said Michael Lawrence, 20, who was at the event Sunday. "(Picnic-goers) were pulling girls' clothes off. They were fighting."
Michael Jones, who was also at the event, said that after a fight broke out between participants and police, additional officers were called in. A phalanx of officers in helmets and riot gear marched down Irving Park Road dispersing the crowd.
As the crowd spilled onto side streets, residents became alarmed.
"We were terrified," said one woman who lives near Oriole Avenue and Addison Street. She said she was so frightened by the scene, she took her two toddlers and hid in the basement.

A over the top statement, ?? Name a middle to large city that does not have crime? You can't Chicago actually has a lot less crime then most US cities. The gang murders catch everyone attention. And, don't go and tell me that the crime stats for Chicago are all phoney. There may be some fudging there, but not that much to really make a difference.

Swat school is a joke. SWAT is done. Instead of feeding the candidates with training, evolving techniques, lessons learned from other teams' mistakes, policy writing (there was none), solidifying trust and developing a true 'team' mentality, the powers that be decided to create an environment of those who are friends of the clout and those who are not.
This school sucks monkey balls. I'm gonna quit. There are plenty of guys who just like to wear green and be seen. Haven't been thru the door or in harms way for years now and that's OK because they don't make waves for the powers that be. It's a shame how it all falling apart. More disappointing is how I see first hand what a hand job the SWAT teachers are. Talk about real hand jobs.
This SWAT school sucks giraffe balls and antelope ass. Really unorganized. It really could, and should have been an amazing school with unlimited potential. Instead, it's plagued with those who know too much and those who haven't a clue. No identity what so ever. It's the flavor of the week with the training staff who dictate the teams direction based on whatever class they've attended or speech they heard from some Tier 1 operator. It's actually comical that these, would be warriors, are so incompetent. I was afraid it would be a joke. Not putting up with another day of this bullshit.
So looking at the orders yesterday they approved new weapons. We have kel-tec junk approved, and the glock fanboy commandos of the range approved a 5.31" barrel competition gun for carry, but for those of us that don't drink Glocks kool aid, and would rather carry a xd-s these twats won't approve it because the Sally ass sgt says they won't send one to T&E. Get over yourself. Most incompetent range in the nation. Hopefully no one that goes out and buys the bodygaurd (that has a manual safety on it) gets killed, especially since we don't train with manual safety's. Keep drinking the glock kool-aid.

So the Field Reps are Casiano, Carter, Harvey, Kilmer, Capparelli, McDonagh with a new position created for Bella that never existed before upstairs in the office. Dean Angelo also stated the FOP members could use any attorneys as long as they worked for the established rate FOP paid. Well an officer called and was told by Kathy Moore sorry we don't use those attorneys any more. Talk about a lying dictator. We need a by law passed that states that if you are elected to the top 6 spots you automatically become field reps. Was hoping for a legit guy after voting for Dean but should have known better. As a damn proud alumnus of Fillmo' (1967-1970), allow me to school you on "da REAL PO-leese". The term actually began in 011 back then when citizens referred to us out of 4001 W. Fillmore St. by that term. This occurred in the bloodiest badass district during the most tumultuous times in the entire history of the CPD.
Today's CPD will never know the camaraderie that we shared in 011 under then Cmdr. George Sims.
On a 10-1, with "no cars available" on the zone, a dozen squads, Mars lights flashing and sirens wailing would appear in a minute to back up our blue brothers. Great memories of great coppers who sure made me more streetwise than most cops will experience during their entire careers. Nobody fucked with us. If they tried, they'd get a wood shampoo, if not worse. We weren't white or black police--we were BLUE police to the bone.
While we worked "where angels feared to tread" and the devil was always there, it was fun with lots of laughs. We worked hard and God knows, we played hard.

Scope the whole place, then stand with your back against the machine with head up and looking around while you put the bucks in your wallet. Boy, that brings back memories. 12,000 people trying to use the one bathroom in the Dominick's there in River Grove.
Had 5 + 18 with me. Only thing you could do was find cover and resolve to get 23 of em as they surged out of the Che-Che-Pin-Qua Woods. Had a dozen pierogis in me too, so was ready for anything.
