Slow Posting
Is it just us or does it seem like the amount of info leaking out of HQ and Garry seem to have declined to a trickle? We aren't kidding when we say it's been difficult the past week or so to come up with even our regular three posts to put up around midnight.
Part of it might be Garry's health. Heart problems are tricky recoveries we've been told, and without him spouting his nonsense to the slack-jawed media types, they're hurting for articles to write. It's not like they can go out and cover actual crime - Rahm has told them to ignore downtown.
Part of it might be the Wysinger regime isn't fully established. The First Deputy spot, for years, the real power of the Department, was gutted under Cline and never really recovered. So while Garry is on the mend, Al "Look at my Awards!" Wysinger doesn't really have a handle on the day-to-day operations of the Department....and you know the New York crew isn't even giving him access to the office.
Part of it might even be the summer doldrums. Crime is crime, it's through the roof on the property side and the killings are keeping nearly even with previous years with little variation.
Open post for now - theories on the lack of good stories are welcome.

Remember who the First was and the problem he had keeping parts of his anatomy out of underlings. He was neutered for a reason. But he was the right color, so diversity trumped common sense again and that cream rose to the top. Disgusting.... and another big reason this Department is ineffective.

Congrats to Cpt. TL in 011 for beginning the slow destruction of a district that use to be a great place to work. Micro managing is just the beginning. He has begun his slow process of showing everyone that he is the greatest police officer and supervisor that ever walked, all while hiding behind the the commanders name. This house mouse will cause violent crimes in 011 to skyrocket because he wants blood from officers.

Well let me add this "leak"; there will be some Major Changes in the City Council and Rahm will capitalize on them. The "Dean" of the City Council has beaten the Feds, but he has not beaten the Grim Reaper. Ed has stage 4 Cancer, and his departure will have an impact on all aspects of City Government. The last of the Old White Guard is about to exit and will probably be replaced by a Hispanic.

It's a bitch when a sergeant tells you that you now have to do your job, isn't it? That, "I work in 011 on the 3rd watch" only works for so long, hair-gel ....
"Topps" blew off every job he could as a PO and would sit on BS for hours without clearing. Keep your heads up, hopefully it gets better
I would just stick to the stories from the troops in the trenches, especially those on North Ave beach and Michigan Ave
You may not get a Trib story to put a hyperlink on, but you can always quote a story in full from the comment section or that's emailed to you. When you have enough detailed reports of all the wildings and gangs attacking tourist and pedestrians, then I'm sure Rahm and Garry would willing provide you with plenty boring administration tidbits so there is no mention of the real crime

The First Deputy spot was most powerful under old man Daley and even in the late 70's when O'Grady had the spot. It went downhill after that and seems to be the place where they put a minority when they don't want a minority for superintendent.When you have a strong superintendent you do not need a powerful 1st Deputy. If the next super is a minority or a female, nothing will change.Wysinger is not capable of doing a good job for super, even acting.

For YEARS, the 1st Dep spot was the guy who actually RAN the Department. John Townsend was Shortshanks bodyguard when Shortshanks was a "Shorty".
Cline switched around a lot of the power because of a feud with (then) 1st Dept Dana Starks. Starks was doing dumb shit when he was the 1st, so Cline emasculated the office.
Now, that brings us to the 2nd Deputy Superintendent... I haven't seen him on here in a while... I wonder how he's doing...
How about these new sgts that came out in the last few classes? Are they nuts or what?
Word is that McCarthy is going to exit gracefully around September after school starts. This gives Rahm a chance to win black votes by putting together a "blue ribbon panel" to find the next supt. which will be a M/1 or F/1 just before the election. McCarthy is going to use the " dr.s orders for a full recovery" to leave the CPD without getting let go so he has upward trajectory in finding another dept. somewhere else to destroy. Furthermore expect some captains to be going soon with the new 55 health insurance. Also word downtown is that Commander O'Neill at MLAS is looking to leave the building by summers end. Also the new squad teams in various districts are an abysmal failure and will end at the 13 period. Also new XO in 011 will completely destroy the district just wait. If you want to know who the smartest man on the dept. Is just ask him (TL) he will tell you. Also 020 and 024 WILL NOT merge. Looks like the district mergers have been a disaster since they just reshuffle the deck when the deck really needs more cards. Look for Rahm and McCarthy to boost and expand VRI everywhere they can since Rahm will not hire more PO's. So tact teams are getting between 10-15 RDO's cancelled over the summer, primarily weekends, to be sent downtown on Michigan ave. to protec t he tourists and $$$$ the city needs. Also a major re organization and new assignments for Det.s is coming for the detective division, a total revamp by yrs end. Also downtown has put the lid on any possibility of changing district boundaries. Well SCC that all I gots for now......stay tuned.....

Townsend was 1st deputy for years under Daley. They even let the retirement age go to 70 so he could stay on. I know there was a 7 year federal mandate about the retirement age but when he left they went back to 63.
They took all the power away when Dana Starks became the 1st deputy. Don't know why they made him the 1st,but have a very good idea. Epecially after Cline was named supt, and I'm sure Starks wasn't his first choice.
Regarding the 1st Deputy position. Many-many years ago the power in the dept. was Jack TOWNSEND. Don't ever lie to him or pay disrespect. He invented the BRICK. Our mayor at that time was heard to call him "Uncle Jack."

Just when 3w in 011 was looking up, it comes crashing down. The two cancerous sgts are gone,well one is the other is on his way, and in return we get a good one on the watch that looks out for the officers now. Sure the female LT merit hack is there, she's scared of her own shadow and is a micro manager to the fullest extent but what ever. Just tell her what she wants to hear and she'll leave you alone. So tact teams are getting between 10-15 RDO's cancelled over the summer, primarily weekends, to be sent downtown on Michigan ave. to protec t he tourists and $$$$ the city needs. Also a major re organization and new assignments for Det.s is coming for the detective division, a total revamp by yrs end. Also downtown has put the lid on any possibility of changing district boundaries. Well SCC that all I gots for now......stay tuned.....

I just heard today that these sob's have a quarter million dollar study up and running, to turn Logan Square itself into a pedestrian only area and to run Milwaukee Avenue traffic down the 2600 block of Sawyer, with the n/b traffic running around the information hut. AND the morons are putting an ORCHARD on the triangle of land by the blue line station. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

Been on the job for 22yrs. all over Chitcago in several units and as a beat officer, as of current. I here a lot of talk about working in 11 especially on third watch, stop complaining or patting your backs as being super cops "YOU'RE NOT". You will be surprised to know that the cake goes to the 7th District, good/fair bosses compared to other districts especially on the 1st and 3rd watches and excellent officers to work with, that being said what a most horrible shithole District to work in. They should make war documentaries over here this place is a hellhole to work in, most of the people here don't want police over here. I really feel bad for the men and women who have to serve in this shithole community, so watch out what you wish for because this is the place not to be in.

Townsend was 1st deputy for years under Daley. They even let the retirement age go to 70 so he could stay on. I know there was a 7 year federal mandate about the retirement age but when he left they went back to 63.
They took all the power away when Dana Starks became the 1st deputy. Don't know why they made him the 1st,but have a very good idea. Epecially after Cline was named supt, and I'm sure Starks wasn't his first choice.

Clinton had a bill languishing on his desk unsigned for years, allowing municipalities with over (I believe) 500,000 people to retire their police/fire at age 63.When Townsend decided to retire, Clinton signed the bill within days of Townsends' departure. That's how heavy he was. Cline saw Starks as a threat and took away the power that Townsend had under Hillard, ensuring that spot would never be the "shadow superintendent" spot again.

CALL PBPA for the answer to your question, I believe with the last class they went up to 130. You should also check the authorized strength for Lts and see if it is at full strength, which it might be due to the last promotions. You might also want to look and see how many Lts are close to mandatory retirement. Seeing that they haven't even given the new test you might have a slight chance, but again it depends on how far out you are. Good Luck, being a Lt is great.......you were probably my classmate 24 years ago

Damn right. When Daley needed something done, he, or his suckhole, would call Jack, (Townsend) and it would be done. They delayed the mandatory retirement at 63 just for Townsend so he could work as long as he wanted. I believe he was right around 70 when he left. Then they went to mandatory retirement at 63. The merit female Lt. on 3rd watch is totally clueless, and yes a micromanger. Tact Lt. M.C. is just like his predecessor, Lt. Danny O'S who is now in narcotics, a one-way merit/clouted M'fer who never had a bad spot in his career. That being said, 011 is a hard place to work, and no some but not all can't bid out. It gets even harder when you have fucked up bosses and your constantly running from job to job. And btw jagoff, 011 leads the city in murders by a wide margin, so go fuck yourself. It's not bragging, or whining it's just venting and looking for a sympathetic ear. So stop hating, because you don't have the balls to work in 011. We are not supercops, but we're not dogasses working in a slow district either.

As someone that worked in 011 for 9 years, got promoted and went to 015 for 3 years, got promoted later on and landed in 007 for a few years; I consider myself a subject matter expert when I say that you need a vacation.
No major changes in the D Unit, just some tweaking. Just made some, and another 60 going in in Sept after Summer. Robbery is going back to violent and youth will be it's own unit again

The taxes are going through the roof in the Logan square area - $7500 to live on Kedzie. I am thinking about looking for a house near Midway airport, around 55th and Massasoit where the taxes and property values are reasonable.
Any advice on this area is appreciated-------------------------
Move to west Garfield Ridge = North of Archer. Trans, Planes are no big deal. Your family will be safe. But...People are seeing this area as a great hood and watch the prices go way up to pre 2006 recession level. Most homes will be selling for 400 K plus in 2 1/2 years. Buy fast this summer. Stay as near to Harlem Av as possible. High line homes and nice park for kids.

Yea,like he won't lie. If he says they never had a "me too" clause, the real question is Why not? How did the CFD get it and not us. Where you asleep at the wheel? That would have been an easy win at arbitration because how could the city give it to CFD and not CPD. FOP didnt ask for it, never checked with CFD and why not arbitrate it the next contract. Originally when contract time came the CPD and the CFD unions would actually use each other for bargaiuning and then involke the me too. They used each other and the me too depending on which department was in at the time.
Just because you dont remember it, doesn't mean we didn't have it.
Probably am alittle senile,but I do remember that and how we were always confident knowing that whatever the CPD got we got,especially the way mayor Daley viewed them as his fair haired boys.
