More Tribune Anti-gun Stuff
This could all be covered in one or two paragraphs (registration required):
- An 86-year-old man who attempted to help police foil an armed robbery at a Crestwood phone store by firing at the fleeing suspect may not have broken the law, but firearms trainers say he ignored a basic rule of carrying a gun in public: Don't try to be a hero.
The man, who has a permit to carry a concealed gun in Illinois, won't face charges for firing two shots outside an ATT store in Crestwood, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office. A police officer pursuing the suspect had to duck for cover, not knowing where the shots were coming from, Crestwood police said. No one was injured.
Officials refused to identify the permit holder involved in the incident Saturday but described him as a "model citizen" in the southwest suburban Cook County village of 11,000 residents.
But the Tribune writers go on for 30 paragraphs and two full pages about how this has "re-ignited" the Concealed Carry debate. Huh?
- This is the second time in a month a concealed carry permit holder has fired a weapon in public in the Chicago area.
"...the Chicago area." Not even Chicago city limits for this one, but by golly, this is out of control! Meanwhile, if you hop over to HeyJackass.com, the July count of NON-Concealed Carry Permit shootings stands at three-hundred-twelve....forty-one of whom have died. Kind of a big difference there.
At first glance, it would appear the Concealed Carry holder is guilty of bad judgement, pursuing an armed offender and firing at him. Had he hit anything, he'd be guilty of a lot more. Had the copper shot the Concealed Carry holder, he'd most likely be justified, but second guessed to death. All that being said, we don't know the details and can only trust the judgement of the Crestwood Police Department and their investigation. The Tribune fails to do that and instead gets all anti-gun preachy.

Fuck the Tribune. Do Not Trust.
No more than you would expect from the media. They will probably always have an anti-gun bias.

Reporters of the socialist persuasion have an agenda to push. That's why they're not too concerned about the bloodbath of gang warfare in the city, but instead try to make the constitutional right to keep and bear arms an issue.
Most people are starting to see through their bullshit.
We have no real journalism in this country anymore. Their main objective it seems is to promote the socialist agenda of the current administration in DC, and locally. All are real scum bent on destroying America.

As a CCL holder there is no doubt that this man used good judgment in keeping people out of the store during the robbery, but very poor judgement when he pursued and fired on the robber. My understanding is that his license has now been pulled as it should be. Thank you for your continued support of CCL, we are very thankful for the right to defend ourselves and our family.
This is because the public who reads the Tribune have become sheeple and they (the editor and staff) know it and exploit it.
The dumbing down of America. It fits together like a puzzle with all the other shit going
"...Don't try to be a hero."
---------
No.
One should always try to be a hero...within the bounds of good judgment.
SCC - A belated thank you for adding us to your set of links.
Also, we're now sitting at 316 shot in July. This looks to be the most since we started keeping records 1.5yrs ago.
More lead -> less dead.

As far as the Tribune is concerned...
If it's not Kass, it's Trash!

While watching a WTTW Channel 11 show about Al Capone last week they used commentary by a guy named Thomas Reppetto, who was described as a retired commander of Chicago Police detectives. With 38 years ojt this is a name I never heard. Goggling the name shows no Chicago references but plenty of NYC ones. He sounded more NYC than Chicago, who is this guy?
"Officials refused to identify the permit holder involved in the incident". Why should they? This is coming from a newspaper that refuses to report the slightest detail of a violent offender at large because it would be racist to say that he is a male black, but we all must know who this concealed carry permit holder is.
Kadner: Concealed-carry shooting incident raises questions
By Phil Kadner pkadner@southtownstar.com July 30, 2014 4:28PM
Who is this guy?
"Mike Pochordo"
"Mike Pochordo, a Chicago homicide detective for 31 years, thinks the gun-toting civilian is “an idiot.”
“That individual has a complete disregard of the law and no understanding of the responsibility that comes with the use of deadly force,” said Pochordo, a resident of Chicago’s Mount Greenwood community. “That idiot is lucky the police officer didn’t turn around and shoot him. I mean, the officer was in hot pursuit of an armed robbery suspect and suddenly someone is firing at him.
“What do you think would have happened to that police officer if he had shot and killed that civilian? The media would have been all over him. And what if the civilian had shot an innocent bystander?
“Even if he shot and killed the suspect, that civilian has no idea of what it is to live with a thing like that. It’s an awful feeling.”
Pochordo, who fears that citizens carrying concealed weapons pose a threat to police officers, believes the civilian, who has a concealed-carry permit, should be charged with unlawful use of a weapon, to send a message to other citizens who “want to play hero.”
Here's an article from the Southtown. Lots of difference from the Trib article-like the guy is 54 and not 86. If the local PD (who was ACTUALLY. Involved) is saying he did nothing wrong, why is everyone else condemning based on a notably erroneous Trib article? 86 or 54? BIG difference. What else did the Trib get wrong?

Cool--you are a lazy bum who doesn't want to pay for products you steal. I don't like the Trib, either, but I refuse to steal even low-value things.
THAT'S IT! I'm taking everyone's rights away!
What is important is that many potential thieves know that this courageous old timer went through the effort to get his Conceal/Carry and took action against the armed robber not caring about his own safety. This is the beauty of citizens being armed and ready to confront the bad guys and gals victimizing us every day in our communities. Sad that we have gone back to the days of the Old West but this is the new normal. The Old Timer should get an award for his bravery but we all know it won't happen.
Bad judgement by the CCW holder.
Worse judgement by the Trib. A dying newspaper
deservedly so.

Shooting in loop today, doesn't happen often but it does happen, this one from 2006

After today's shooting, there will be the usual frenzy of howls and shrieks that guns are BAD and no one should have them. In 4. . 3. . 2 . . 1

And take the politicians with you!

Why the name calling???
The "issue" is about a permit holder and "model citizen" and the Trib says it re-ignites the debate. The term "poor judgement" was used. Nothing was said about one of our 17 yr old "children" using "poor judgement" when he carried a gun into the store to rob it. Liberal crap! Our media "leading" public opinion. B.S.
It is rumored Col. Robert McCormick dropped the moniker 'Worlds Greatest Newspaper' after the 'Dewey Beats Truman' headline. The Trib has been setting low standards and failing to meet them ever since.
A couple of points on the citizen shooting at the robbery suspect.
#1 Perhaps not the best tactical decision but it turned out OK.
#2 The police refuse to identify the CCL holder. As well they shouldn't. Unless he has been charged with a crime the police can not publicly identify him unless they want to be sued for privacy violation.
#3 Detective Pochordo: seeing as how you have publicly stated that the CCL holder is an idiot and "should be charged with unlawful use of a weapon" to "send a message."
You had better take some time out of your day and read the statute regarding UUW. Especially as this did not even happen in Chicago, your alleged jurisdiction. And charge someone to "send a message?" Ever hear of something called "probable cause?" But go ahead. If you feel so strongly, swear out a warrant and put your name (and your house, savings and pension) on it.
Stupid talking head today said she wondered where the security was at the Jackson St shooting..... She said being a federal building it was illegal to carry there....Dah...
She thought Bank of America was a federal organization.
Another thing that is emphasized in CCW training is, once the threat has retreated, you put yourself in a position of acting the aggressor, if you shoot them.
I don't say that in a negative sense, but that's how I was trained.
It's counter intuitive, in that you have a man who is armed, who committed a robbery, and who is a threat to others. Why allow him to escape to prey on others?
I wasn't there. I don't know the circumstance so, I don't know how poor the judgement was in this situation, if poor at all. Was the citizens shots close to or in-line of the officer? Did the citizen know the officer was there?
Again, generally, you should not be chasing the threat for all the reasons outlined.
That being said, a major benefit of this event and citizen carry is that, it is no longer open season on good citizens.
By virtue of that, I bet it is becoming increasingly evident to shitbird nation that, it's no longer just take what you want with a weapon.
The shitbird now has to contend with the likelihood that when he acts armed against the citizen, there could be one or more citizens around that can raise the stakes for them, at the time of the attack or immediately afterward.
In spite of the hype the Tribune is attempting to make in this instance, citizens are responsible enough to carry. If that we're not the case we would see the Tribune reporting 24/7/365 every instance of bad citizen shoots around the nation.
We don't see that because it is a real anomaly. We don't see bad citizen CCW shootings being anywhere close to gang banger un-intended target hits.
We have seen the crime in this city wrought from our being brainwashed in to believing we are incapable of defending ourselves and the fact that the police can't be everywhere and old school policing tactics that kept order in the past are a thing of the past, thanks to liberals coddling of criminals and by self-serving lawyers and a dysfunctional judicial system.
Mistakes will be made and sadly, and I hope I'm wrong, at some point a shot fired by a carrying citizen is going to hit an un-intended target, eventually.
That is a price we must be prepared to pay for the greater good of our society. Otherwise we live on our knees playing the defenseless victim to predators who become more and more emboldened.
To hype the isolated incident where that tragedy happens and to call for open season again on good people will only have the effect of more good people being shot.
The article states this citizen could have hit the officer or others.
Well, he did not and probably because the officer was not in the line of fire. Also, the citizen carrying might have saved us of from dealing with one more junior shitbird graduating to a major shitbird.

There is a privately-run "environmental group" called the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Interviewers constantly call them the "NATIONAL Resources Defense Council" -- and will never be corrected.
They know what they're doing -- they want to sound like a powerful government agency. Been going on for years.
Trib has redesigned their web page and it's really s__t. Move a little too far down the page and it just redirects your browser to another page they feel is important, without even asking. Like it's booby-trapped or something. Very squirrely.
