Anyone See a Football Game?

We follow football in a half hearted sort of way. Every year, the media hypes the Bears, and almost every year, we get disappointed due to some unforeseen injures or poor draft choices and bad free agent signings. It's something to pass the time and gives us a post to put up over the weekends.

So the Bears offense looked capable of moving the ball the other night. The defense is looking for big play maker(s).

How about some predictions?

But the real reason for football preseason?

60 days until Hockey Opening Night.

The Blackhawks are the early Cup favorites.
The Bears will be 7-9. At best, 8-8.

Phrases rarely uttered in Chicago . I've been a hawks fan for decades . Who remembers Wayne Messmer being shot ?. Still remember the 91 all star game . People cheered so loud during the anthem they drowned him out . To show support for Operations Desert Shield/Storm

I'm a hockey fan (and golf). We should have a world-class team. We have all of this money, enormous fan base, super-expensive stadium ... all of these factors for a world-class team and we get nothing.

Perhaps if I pay 45 more in addition to the current cost we can get a world-class something. But I think sucking me dry is not working ... and will not work in the future.

Still, we have all of the elements needed for a world-class team and do not.

This year I feel the spirit stirring within me. Once again the Bears will dominate the field like a mighty huffing and puffing steam locomotive.

All things being equal -- on Offense -- Da Bears *should be* 11-5 this year, at the least.

Last year the defense cost them 3 games easily. So if the new guys play as 'advertised' and barring injuries, add 3 games to the win column, maybe 4.

On Special Teams, even if losing Long Snapper Patrick Mannelly hurts the kicking game on Field Goals, having a better Punter now equals out the FG negatives by putting the opponent in worse field position more consistently, which helps the Defense.

Additionally, in the 'Return Game' finally getting rid of, Devin *Wrong-Way* Hester, is another plus, even if the new Kick Returner fair catches every punt!(/s) Whatever Hester had was long gone -- he really never was 'fast', he was 'quick' -- and his negative return yards were an Offense Killer. The only thing he still did have left was his massive EGO and his man-crush on Lovie. IMHO he was was a distraction last year and should have been cut, released, or traded.

Go Bears, how's 12-4 sound :-)

I'd like to go to Soldier Field for a Bears game with my son, so I'm saving up some money now.
I've got fifty bucks put away in my sock drawer so far.
I'm trying to decide if I should use it for 2 hotdogs and share a Pepsi or pay for parking.
By December, I should have socked away (pun intended) enough for a ticket or two IF I can get VRI, although retired.
Go Bears!

Most importantly the beginning of these two teams seasons signals the end is near for what sad excuses for baseball our two local teams have been demonstrating.
Giving up 13+ runs twice in a few days?
Adam Dunn pitching? Need I go on??

I must agree, every year the Bears end up being a big disappointment and every year I hope for a change but it never happens. Now I know what a cub fan feels like. Hah.

I remember that shooting. Wayne is lucky, he got his singing voice back. Taylor St area wasn't it? That old stadium was one loud place.

Do you recall why Wayne was fired by the Blackhawks? He went to work for the Chicago Wolves and is now part owner.

I believe Wayne was co owner of the wolves since their inception in 94 . There was a conflict of interests the wolves were/are the Canucks minor league team. Of course bill owned the hawks in those days . So they let Wayne go .

Yes the shooting was on Taylor . Wayne's necktie and two outstanding CFD medics saved his life . He was leaving the restaurant and two little jerks robbed him . The one fired through Wayne's driver side window . The bullet struck him in the throat .

It struck his necktie which impacted into the wound slowing blood loss . Those two medics took him to county . Their quick thinking and excellent work saved Wayne's life . Wayne is a REAL Chicagoan a class act all the way .

So, don't watch then. Go cheer for someone else. You're obviously not a Bears fan anyway.

And, by the way, in case you haven't heard, Cutler isn't going anywhere, having just signed a big, shiny, new contract. Get on board... or don't, who cares!

History lesson: Wayne Messmer was part of the ownership group that brought the Wolves to Chicago. Still is. Old Man Wirtz was highly insulted by this action, looking at Messmer as a traitor, and fired him. There was even a playoff series against St. Louis one season, where the Blues hired Messmer to sing the anthem in St. Louis. Roenick called him a couple of choice names after the song.

The Wolves were originally in the IHL, as an independent team, with no NHL affiliation. When they joined the AHL, they became the minor league affiliate for the Atlanta Thrashers. They have also been Vancouver's affiliate, and currently St. Louis'. Messmer is still part owner.

You aren't a hawks fan unless you were there for the shitty years . This city didn't even realize hockey was a sport until 2010 . Thanks for reiterating everything I said . Are you butthurt because you landed on a spoke when jumping on the bandwagon ?.

Two words Jeff Hackett 99% percent of hawks fans just said who ?. Also the gentleman asked about Wayne's shooting . You couldn't provide any info on that because you were too busy playing fisher price .

Exactly

Remember Alpo Suhonen? The Mike Smith years? The great purge before the lockout? The lone playoff appearance under Brian Sutter? The ABC line, the line of the Hawks future (Arnason, Bell, Calder)? We've had season tickets since the early 90's. We saw some really bad hockey over the years. The UC has turned into Wrigley West....the hip happening place to be. Not true fans.
