Rauner the Reform Candidate

  • Gov. Pat Quinn has spent a political lifetime fine-tuning his image as a government reformer, but a new Early and Often Poll shows Republican Bruce Rauner may have wrested that mantle away from the governor.

The incumbent Chicago Democrat also has spent months trying to portray the multimillionaire private equity investor from Winnetka as an out-of-touch “billionaire,” yet voters in Illinois appear evenly split about which gubernatorial candidate best understands their everyday concerns.

And while Quinn again finds himself down by double digits in this latest poll by We Ask America, Illinoisans gave a decisive nod to Quinn running mate Paul Vallas over Republican Evelyn Sanguinetti as the best qualified lieutenant governor candidate to take over in the event of an emergency.
This is especially eye-opening in that the Tribune and Sun Times are running a concerted effort to paint Rauner as an evil, money-hungry billionaire. It doesn't seem to be working - people see him as successful.

We've got the regular trolls who keep whining about how Rauner is all about destroying pensions and well all be penniless if he wins. They don't seem to have noticed that Quinn, Madigan and Company are already destroying the pensions via legislative action and a stalled effort in the courts. Why leave them in there to keep doing it? They've lied at every turn and will most likely continue down that path.

Rauner and the republicans aren't going to win both houses in Springfield - they probably won't even win one. Put Rauner in there and have Springfield stall out for a session or two. Springfield gridlock is a win as far as we're concerned.

Too bad Quinn has co-opted Vallas though. That guy had credibility until he bought into the Combine politics of Illinois.

Rauner and Rahm are good buddies and could do a lot of damage together. Quinn sucks but he doesn't get along with Rahm. Call it what you want but we are in a union. Rauner hates unions.

Rauner and Rahm are buddies. Rauner is the same type of reformer as Rahm. Rauner is the combine candidate. Look at Rauner's previous political donations. Most have been to democrats. Blagojevich was a "republican." He was also a mob bookie who married the daughter of a very powerful illinois democrat politician. He was the combine candidate until he began biting the hand that fed him. Not a troll.

Maybe if Rham gets reelected he'll do the same thing. I'm sure you guys and girls wouldn't mind losing that uniform allowance and shift differential or maybe a few less vacation days to help a senior pay the taxes on his bungalow.

Quinn was handed a golden opportunity to create a positive change in Illinois when he took over after Blago's conviction.

Instead, he squandered it. Illinois is now the perfect example to the other 49 of "don't be like that."

Illinois teachers' unions came out against Rauner.

In fact, Illinois' unionized teachers hate Rauner so much that they gave Rauner their pension money to invest.

What did Rauner do to these people who hate him so much? He earned them close 20% return on average.

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20130406/ISSUE01/304069983/rauners-love-hate-relationship-with-pension-funds#

Rauner understands how money works. He is the only candidate who can start to fix this state.

Walker undid the damage in Wisconsin and Snyder did it in Michigan.

He will try and roll everything into private 401 k style, all the while making millions on interest as his investment companies are given the task. He is shady. Anyone who has to dump 10million of his own money into his own campaign stands to gain something greater. Its that simple. You have to remember how extreme his views are based off his republican primary race. He embodies everything that is wrong with capitalism. There is no room for patriotism or understanding for your average blue collar middle class american. I don't believe in giving our money away to welfare culture and illegals either, but this man is bad for what is left of middle class in this state. I see many on here tell the citizens "you got the city you wanted" well, same will hold true for the public working middle class if this guy gets in. We need to get out of our own way.

Rauner is Evil? WTF...are you serious, sheesh. However, if anyone or group is "evil" it's Potato-Head and the cabal of IL democRATs, for what they've done to IL and want to CONTINUE doing.

And what *exactly* is wrong with a billionaire, or anyone's who is 'Rich', being Governor?

--- In case you haven't figured it out yet a rich person won't be worrying about who he has to pay off with contracts and favors so he can get a do-nothing job when they get booted from office. And they won't be drooling at "A gold Mine" of any vacant senate seat like Blago did. Nor will a rich person have to pander to Special Interest Groups like LaRaza, the NAACP, etc for that all important thing called: 'MONEY'. And last but not least a 'Rich' person won't have to worry over which ass he's kissed on his way up through the party and owes favors he has to repay. ---

Sooooooo, do we need a 'billionaire in a public office' -- versus a career politician, and an inept one at that -- YEAH, you're goddamn right we do!

***** an aside: I don't know where all this 'Hate The Rich' bullshit comes from. Last I looked this is fucking America where WE ALL have the opportunity to become 'Rich'. And NOT some Communist fucking hellhole where 'The Rich' get exterminated and all assets confiscated. If that's your idea of paradise try North Korea, Cambodia, or Cuba -- 'Comrade'. *****

Aren't a bunch of you guys married to teachers? So that's their pensions and yours on the line. You do know where Quinn stands on pensions because he signed the bill. You do know that Rauner criticized that bill and says he would offer something different, but it isn't clear whether he'd roll it all into 401ks or exactly what he'd do. Tribune did a pretty good job, a few weeks ago, of explaining how Rauner hasn't committed himself to any pension reform plan and has said he will do so "in due time." Finally, you know he has ramped up the rhetoric on how he will stand up to "the union bosses."

Just my own personal opinion, not a police person's: The enemy you know on pensions is a whole lot preferable to the enemy you don't know.

--------------------------------
More crack-pipe logic.

Dangerous? Figure it out. Rauner knows how to make money - Quinn only knows how to tax money.

As far as who is going to "tax your pension" it's inevitable.

Quinn will do it- he has to do something to shore up the mess the Democrats made.

Plus, anyone moving out of the state will be a target for an "out-of-state" pension tax. It is totally acceptable- you move out and spend your money somewhere else, you are not re-circulating it into the economy you made it in. Other states already have it.

So pay some back. Back to the state you earned it in.

PLUS - the whole big UNION argument of Cost-of-Living is a double-edged sword.

If you are living in a state that has a lower cost-of-living, you should send some money back to Illinois because in the 30 years you worked here- you had to get $40,000 instead of $32,000 because the "cost-of-living" is higher in Chicago. Same goes for $60,000 or $90,000- you get the picture.

So if you move to a cheaper state, you may have to give back even more.

Sound bad? Sounds like a great Democratic solution to solve the problem.

AND YOU KNOW WHY IT WILL WORK and Madigan will back it?

Because you are out-of-state, you have no recourse to vote anyone out because you are gone.

THAT is the perfect solution to all the shortfalls. You tax the out-of-staters who have NO vote in the state.

Great Democratic solutions. Keep voting Democrat, suckers.

Same thing happened to a family member on city plan last week. Took 3 days to get important Perscription filled. Kids got a screaming ear infection. Are we on obamacare now??? Any help appreciated.

Drug companies across the US have shortages of common medications and special medications. Whether they are shorting supply to drive up costs is another story but that's why the layers of delay exist. You ave to really really need it before they give it out. No shortage of Viagra though. Go figure.

He will try and roll everything into private 401 k style, all the while making millions on interest as his investment companies are given the task. He is shady. Anyone who has to dump 10million of his own money into his own campaign stands to gain something greater.

He is no different than most politicians. They all spend plenty of money to get elected to an office than pays less than they can make in private industry.
As far as the 401k,would be hard to do if the city has to continue to match our contribution 2 to 1 They would have to put that money in every payday and they dont want to do that
401 would be a disaster if they did not match contributions.

Rauner said we will have a pension. Good enough for me

Phew...so you found a politician that doesn't lie.
Good job but I personally think Rauner is NO GOOD for us. Or anyone on or about to go on the Pension that you earned and deserve.

I'm voting for Rauner.

Good for you all grown up. Stupid, but that is your right as well.

Also, to the poster that says police and fire are special because they risk their lives, I do, but in reality, nobody cares when it comes to money. Rauner is as full of shit as everyone else. Vote for him fine, but don't put yourself or him on a pedestal. Money talks. I bet they have a cure for cancer too, but like everything else, there ain't no money in the cure...

You do not pay taxes to where you used to live. If that were true, then send Chicago money for that Chicago City Sticker which you can proudly display in Arkansas.

Great Piece , SCC, Quinn has Zero Credibility. Lets get Rauner in and hope for the best. If not, Illinois IS sunk.

To those of you worried about your pension if Rauner is elected... Have you been asleep the last 15 years? Your pension hasn't been safe since the pols started using the money for other purposes. Things went downhill especially quickly under Blago. Quinn has had five years to deal with the mess and he's done jack shit. Re-elect him for another four and there's not going to be any way the City of Chicago or Illinois digs out of the hole. Pension default becomes more likely every day Quinn does nothing. If that happens, you really will get nothing. At least Rauner acknowledges the problem. Potato Head thinks we're all too stupid to know what's really going on. Of course, if he somehow gets re-elected, he's probably right to think that.

Rauner has stated that public employees, should be in 401K's. Rauner, should run for governor of the Cayman Islands, where he keeps his money, to avoid paying Illinois taxes.

AND, if it's Legal, who can blame him for being smart, business-wise ? You don't think the Daleys, Madigans, Durbins, Pelosi's, Reid's, Clintons don't do the same ? Dumb-Ass.
