Parade Shootings
The media is calling this the "first ever Billiken Parade shooting," conveniently omitting the years of post-parade mayhem by declaring it "wasn't parade related" - kind of like the regular brawls, riots and aggravated batteries following the "Gay Pride" event. Newsflash! If there was no parade, there wouldn't be any reason to hang out, drink, toke and cause trouble afterwards in crowds of tens of thousands of people.
- Thousands of people turned out for the annual Bud Billiken Parade Saturday, a day to celebrate the start-up of school with dancers, marching bands, political floats and outdoor grilling.
Only this year -- for the first time that anyone could remember in the event’s 85-year history -- the shooting of two teenagers just off the parade's main route sent some families running for cover -- and left others angry that this longtime African-American tradition had been violated.
We won't go into the supposed "traditions" that have led to the deaths of thousands of members of the community. But we can see exactly how two people managed to get shot. Look at what was going on:
There were guns EVERYWHERE! And there was no firearm discipline whatsoever! Look at where all the muzzles were pointed. It's no small wonder that only two people got shot. We're surprised it wasn't dozens with all these weapons flying through the air.

Not like the early-1960s Christmas Parades down State Street I have photos of -- no barricades, no choppers overhead, just a copper every 100 feet or so, mostly to look out for little kids who might run out suddenly.

Car 200 kept calling 10-1's from his golf cart every time he saw a large group fighting. Really? A 10-1 just because you want it quelled quickly so you don't get dumped Again. A 10-1 should only be used when a police officer is in trouble, not some savages fighting.

This parade has always been associated with violence, while it may not have happened on the parade route per se, certainly the surrounding are and especially in the wake of the parade there was lots of violence. Of course, CPD news affairs always tells the media how quiet it was, don't want to appear racist.

Sometime ago before I retired I recall a Officer Caution flyer warning that some gangs were painting their weapons in toy-like colors to make police hesitant to shoot them.
Stay Safe. Do you know of anyone who bought one of those S&W "Lady Smith" J-frame revolvers with the hot-pink grips and actually carried the gun that way.
It wasn't Schwieger's gun that was taken. It was his partner's. Schwieger chased down and shot the offender. Offender was a lot older than thirteen. Shit happens when least expected. Be safe and always on your guard.

I recall a couple shootings in the past 10 years or so. But I guess if it's a block from the parade route it's not actually at the parade. Worked that thing the past 3 years and it's crazy everytime. Not one word concerning the 14 year old female caught with the loaded 9mm in her purse on the parade route at 50th and King Drive. Several 10-1's called during the parade and 40 arrests made.
Not one person shot at the Southside Irish Parade (or downtown)in all these years. They still shut the parade down for two years because of drinking. Yet ALL this crap happening at Biliken and Gay Pride is ok. What a wonderful, convoluted society we've become with this media.
Shootings and UUW arrests are regular occurrences at Bud, they have just been fortunate that people aren't struck by gunfire all that often. So the shooting and violence and "lost kids" are all swept under the rug so it doesn't make the parade look bad. But it is, it is a celebration of violence and thug life and it should've been canceled a long time ago. We need to start generating paper for every time shots are fired at the parade and submit that along with copies of all the arrests that are made for weapons and other violence during this poor excuse for a parade. That way they can't keep lying about how nothing ever happens. I've worked it for the last 15 years and it is a classic illustration of what is wrong with the poor black community.

You need a tremendous amount of aptitude to get assigned to the academy. I was interviewed twice and I had to show them my degrees. Also, it is a tremendous amount of work to be an instructor. It only looks easy.

Actually, I was there when the gun was recovered and that's not what happened. Car 200 was looking for one of those fine officers to handle the arrest and nobody wanted anything to do with it. They were ready to place the gun on the ground and walk away until 002 tact showed up. Tact took it because nobody else would. Get your facts straight.

There was one 10-1 called on cw 6 and it wasn't car 200. But he did call for a lot of assists with roving packs of animals.
Best was he kept moving people from their assigned posts and then would bitch to the Sgt or lt when shit went wrong and nobody was where the order says they were supposed to be. Guess u should have trusted some of the officers out there that have been doing this detail for over 10 years.
The park is pretty much locked down, how about blocking off the few avenues to enter the park, once the last float is say at 50th king. This would stop the roving idiots from wreaking havoc in the park at least.

She released all the teams around 2100hrs her first year of Bud (she was transferred in two days before the event). She thanked everybody on the radio and told them they could leave. A couple of units questioned her about it on the radio and she affirmed the release.
About ten minutes later, there was a shooting on the ramp at 51st, the park was up for grabs, and she was begging those teams to return to get control over it. Very few answered the radio. It was a looooong night. And that's what happens when you put someone with zero experience into a bad situation.
btw, her husband's a great guy.
With those outfits all those studs would fit right in with the Gay Pride Parade...

Most of those that work (and that is a very loose term - work) at the Academy are there because they knew someone that got them there. You don't need a college degree to stand up in front of class of recruits and read from a lessen plan.
Hell, even the gym passed up some very qualified individuals in favor of a form Lt.'s daughter whose only claim to fame on this job was working for the past 5 years in CAPS!
As for a tremendous amount of work: there is no instructor that is overworked. Take a look at a schedule for the past month and you will see some teach no more than an hour a day while others may have 8 hours in a month! NO ONE is overworked at the Academy.
I will say that they most certainly are out of touch in what is really going on on the street.

The officers were on their feet from 0730 till 1500 parade end, then ordered to walk to 51st , then to 55th and released at 1600 hours after a start time of 0700. Pardon us if the most trying part of your day is exiting a car and going in the station to process a gun.
Was perry a merit sarge and market lieu befor appointed to commander ?

It must be nice to be assigned to the academy. The personnel in the academy do not have a clue of what its like out in the streets, especially the summer. What are the qualifications to get assigned to the academy?

You need a tremendous amount of aptitude to get assigned to the academy. I was interviewed twice and I had to show them my degrees. Also, it is a tremendous amount of work to be an instructor. It only looks easy.

Most of those that work (and that is a very loose term - work) at the Academy are there because they knew someone that got them there. You don't need a college degree to stand up in front of class of recruits and read from a lessen plan.
Hell, even the gym passed up some very qualified individuals in favor of a form Lt.'s daughter whose only claim to fame on this job was working for the past 5 years in CAPS!
As for a tremendous amount of work: there is no instructor that is overworked. Take a look at a schedule for the past month and you will see some teach no more than an hour a day while others may have 8 hours in a month! NO ONE is overworked at the Academy.
I will say that they most certainly are out of touch in what is really going on on the street.

I can remember when that stone fucking racist commander Marianne Perry from two, beefed because white coppers from other district were detailed to the parade. She made no bones about it, that she had no use for white coppers. That pos is married to a retired guy from Gangs, George Figueroa. If a white boss acted like her, they would have strung him up. I would piss on her grave.

Trust me, starting at the Academy, there are some of us that have seen & experienced much worse than anything Perry could come up with. We just didn't have any venue available to bitch about how we were treated back then.

It's a fuckin outline. Make sure you cover the shit they'll have on the Friday test. It ain't rocket science, Einstein.

Those lesson plans haven't changed. The tests are all the same.

704 am HUH, embarrassment to others??? It doesn't matter what color cuffs you put on, the important thing is if you put them on. My understanding, I know several officers (male and female)who bought colored cuffs for identification purposes. Some officers don't take care of their cuffs and in multiple arrest or detaining situations, you in return may get someone else cuffs that are rusty and don't function properly. It's hard to keep an eye on whose cuffs are whose but at least now they don't have to stand with a flashlight and wonder are these mine. To me this is petty, grow up Mr. embarrassment.

Thanks 002 tact for clarifying the details on how you got "stuck" with that gun arrest, I'm sure you were glad to jump on it. I'm also sure no one wanted to leave it.
The officers were on their feet from 0730 till 1500 parade end, then ordered to walk to 51st , then to 55th and released at 1600 hours after a start time of 0700. Pardon us if the most trying part of your day is exiting a car and going in the station to process a gun.
002 tact was assigned to the parade too asshat. We worked just as long as you did and we put up with the citizens of 002 every day, unlike you who showed up for a tour and then went back to your quiet north side district.
