That's a Win
- Six board members of a Southeast Side youth baseball league resigned Wednesday night amid growing criticism of their decision to let a convicted cop killer coach in the league.
The resignations of the Hegewisch Babe Ruth league board members were announced after they met behind closed doors with Ald. John Pope, 10th, and relatives of Chicago police Officer John Mathews, who was beaten to death while off-duty in 1988.
Aldercreature Pope was all over this, and he's still all over it:
- Pope said the Hegewisch Little League youth baseball organization has agreed to take over the Babe Ruth organization for now. Pope said he was told that, under the Babe Ruth league’s bylaws, the community’s leader is responsible for appointing a new board.
Pope said he would assume that responsibility, and planned to review league bylaws and discuss the situation with attorneys and the league’s national supervising body before proceeding.
This entire process was sorely in need of oversight. And it took the son of a murdered Officer to provoke some changes in the way business was done.

i was allowed in to parts of this behind the scenes action. was surprised the past board resisted like it did. lost respect for some decent people on the board. one person m-4 has always seemed like a coke head piece of s$$t and just solidified himself in the (i wouldnt piss on him if he was on fire) category. alderman pope stepped up on this not wanting any more news around town. it was alot of debating with pieces of sh$t to get the right outcome. final board hold outs can f off. one thing is we never forget! talkcrap on hegewisch all u want but we dont want murderers in our town, many neighborhoods should take a lesson here.
Ald. Pope stepped up because the board would not step down like they should have from the start!! This was not a political move, it's Pope doing his job like he always done. That's the problem today, no one appreciates anything. Good job all the way around. The support for the Mathew's family was awesome.
Now on to those parole board members! Wtf really? 11 years for murdering a police officer?? Are they family/ friends of the accused? Were they bribed? How is this possible? Let's start digging

Pope. He is friends with Chavez. Pope. He knew of Chavez history and did nothing while he worked at Babe Ruth all that time. Pope. Had nothing to do with removing Chavez. Pope only got involved at the end because it became a big story with the news and to show his face and get his name publicized to give the illusion that this was all him. Savior of Babe Ruth. All because of his election year. Hope people are smart enough to know the truth and see him for what he truly is. The Matthews family deserve all the credit.
I love how the board president, Scott Jamrock, is whining about the board being bullied into resigning. DUDE GET OVER IT! Your friend is a complete and total douchebag and you overlooked it. He's a cop killer! The fact that you're friends with him says a lot about you as a person. So you don't have your piddly ass position anymore. Three kids grew up without a father and a woman lost her husband. Others lost a son, brother, and friend. Get the fuck over yourselves and while you are at it, how about some situational awareness. The world doesn't revolve around YOU!
Glad to hear the family of the fallen officer received a tiny bit of closure.
Great turnout for family, like a previous poster, I have lost a lot of respect for people I thought were better than that. Some have family that are the police and some implicitly involved are police. They have been exposed for what they are. I also applaud, several family members of police, officers and detectives who fought the good fight. Also, thanks to the Commander and his guys from area south. Came out and stayed for the whole fiasco. I hope some people never wear their police memorial garb again, u don't deserve too.

Hey - I am surprised Pat Quinn didn't show up. Talk about pandering to the camera over a tragedy.
This was definitely a Pat Quinn moment. He could have been there talking about his Assault Rifle ban and how it would clear things up. (Mr. Out-of-Touch)
Pope still has Thomas Sadzak aka TJ, Al Sanchez, and others working for him. You just have to visit his office to see TJ sitting around smiling. TJ was supposed to be on the city do not hire list after exposing himself and threatening a woman at streets and san.
Hes also been using his cronies to have community support events for Adelman's chop shop. They have been trying to get people to support the company saying the son was just a poor rich kid who didn't know any better. Over 200 cars were found on the lot? How many were actually chopped up? How dumb do you think we are aldercritter Pope?
I have been told there still has not been a new board instilled into this league. John Pope is dragging his feet on the issue to let the league fail so he can point fingers and say I told you so.
He is also not upset this scum was coaching since he graduated grammar school with him and played babe ruth with him, he is upset at the people that did not just keep quiet about it. He was in favor of him coaching all these years and himself knew since day 1.
