Karen Lewis Seriously Sick

  • Chicago Teachers Union officials revealed on Thursday that CTU president Karen Lewis has a “serious illness,” underwent surgery Wednesday and is “alert and comfortable.”

But for the fourth straight day, neither the union nor Lewis’ campaign staff would comment on the nature of that illness or any prognosis for the charismatic union leader. And their continued silence raises serious questions about the viability of her all-but-announced campaign to unseat Rahm Emanuel.
Good news for Rahm as she was definitely the more charismatic opponent.

Bad news for Rahm - a three way race with Rahm, Lewis and Fioretti seems all but doomed. If Lewis endorses Fioretti, there's a better-than-average chance Rahm loses.

I think that without Lewis in the race, Rahm cruises to victory. I don't think fioretti has the drawing power that Lewis does. I hope I'm wrong because I want Rahm out.

...and there is the possibility that Rahm either found out some real dirty dirt on her or lined up a sweet job after she is done being CTU Prez in exchange for her dropping out.

Wouldn't be the first time a local union leader left into a nice big G-job.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't one candidate need 50% + 1 to get voted in otherwise it goes to a runoff . Reason being Lewis & Fiorretti might take up some of that 50% vote and election goes to run off with the two top candidates. It may be better to have 2 people running against Rham at first . no?

Just because Lewis stood up to Rahm doesn't mean she would make a good mayor. Sad truth is once someone becomes a Chicago politician they sell their soul to stay one. There is no wah to escape the Chicago way, and its spreading nationally.

I think that you would change your mind if Lewis is elected. She has made racist comments in the past blaming the poor performance of Chicago's school children on the fact that the system has too many white teachers. She and Preckwinkle are in the same category. Blame the system, must be something wrong with the white system, could not be the fault of the black kids, parents etc.

I dislike Rahm as much as most coppers, but Karen Lewis is not the answer. She is a far leftist and would absolutely destroy what is left of Chicago. Research all you want (yeah right). You're still voting on an image. The research you read is put together by people no different from those who created the tv ads. We don't know these people neither do we know many of the motivations for WHY they voted the way they did on some issues. It's not all conviction, it's also voting with the homies so they vote with you. I worked in a politician's office while in college. The only thing I learned is republicans and democrats are the same people trying to make different groups of people happy to get reelected. You see over and over that their public views tend to shift when they no longer rely on the party for employment.

3:38 agreed, but the lakefront libs and progressives don't think Fioretti is a viable alternative. Nor Lewis, for that matter. There isn't any viable challenger in the field right now, and that is why Rahm will be re-elected. Waguespack not running, at least not this time. Been living out of state, out of communication, or what?
She was very open about having had lap band, or whatever, done in Mexico awhile back. She's lost over a hundred pounds since then.
The official statement was that it was not a stroke and it was not related to her weight loss surgery.

The way that this was handled by Lewis' people was not good, secretiveness and a complete lack of transparency. Is that how she'd handle business as Mayor?

Like him or not, Rahm Emanuel is one of the luckiest politicians in Chicago right now. Preckwinkle passes, Lewis has a health problem she won't disclose and Fioretti has done virtually nothing as an alderman.

Rahm Emanuel will win, not because he's great but because there is no viable alternative at this point.

I doubt that he'll even be in a runoff at this point.
