More VRI Requirements

But not for you - for sergeants.

According to a recent AdminFax, sergeants are required to have the same qualifying activity numbers to work VRI that Officers must have.

The sergeants have to have it within a year though, not every month.

How many college credit hours are sergeants required to have? How many sgts retire in an average year?
How many sgts are expected to retire before the end of this year?
I'm not a "media whore" so relax. I've gotten all kinds of conflicting answers and am just looking for the definitive one.

That's quite humorous, they're usually begging for sergeants. Looks like someone has been allowed to implement their pet peeve.

Sergeants make arrests? That would be news to more than a few of the nimrod supervisors I worked under.

I believe the supervisor's main function is to supervise, not come in with numbers so this is asinine.

So next time I answer a question for an arrest situation or steer a ppo in the right direction I'll put myself in as "assisting arresting officer" . This will also get me court $ , and qualify me for this stupid policy. What's the point??

The powers that be are still working on the figures but they already have the categories laid out for sergeants to qualify for VRI.

And the categories are......

1)Denying time due.
2)Denying lunch requests.
3)Micro Managing.
4)Constantly over riding P.O.'s decisions with "just give them a damn report."
5)See how long they can ignore supervisor requests from field units.

I'm a Sgt. I have two words for this, HA HA! I'm supposed to get activity with my 3 to 4 page log. There is normally myself and one other Sgt. I spend the day trying to find everybody racing around the district. That is in between the retarded SPARs I'm handed every week for indebtness to the city, missing court, etc, and etc. That doesn't include the 30 page CR investigation I have for an officer passing gas in public that will get kicked back four times because one T wasn't crossed.

I will always have arrest activity as I ride on jobs and stop people when I can. Should the city want me to write movers, BRING IT ON!!! I will write every month. Court is my friend and I'll tell the do nothing Crt Sgt to shove it if he or she tries to write me for not being in the proper uniform.

In all honesty, this won't float. The clouted Sgts wouldn't be able to get VRI if this goes into effect. Should you work in a unit its not possible. That is not going to happen

Looks like they took it down already, no where to be found. This sounds like a brilliant idea from an"acting"chief. And I do mean acting.

The "qualifying" numbers required for VRI are bullshit. I have over 18 years on and cannot get any supplemental days because the detectives take them all. Obviously they don't have the requirements. They purposely made this "supplemental" program for detectives who don't have the required activity. As for the rest, how many house mouses work VRI? Where do they get the activity? They jump on arrest reports just so it looks like they have an "arrest". They write bullshit contact cards like most of the dogs that also make the requirement. The requirements should be "arrests, movers, and parkers" only. Let people that actually do some work during their tour to get the VRI bonus.

So I ask my P.O.s to add me to their arrests and a few contact cards. Then do a few parkers. Big deal...not.

I am a Sergeant and I have never and will never work VRI, not because I don't need the money, my reason is the City is using that to supplement hiring. All who work VRI remember one thing you are not paying into the pension that would be paid into if they hired a few hundred people. Our pension is screwed and without hiring it will be dissolved in 20 years. If nobody worked VRI then they would be forced to hire bodies.

No supervisor should be out there looking for arrests. You are suppose to supervise and lead. Not making pimp arrest because they looked at you wrong in 9. Resign and return to a blue shirt before you hurt someone.

This is an effort to get more work out of people and not hire the needed personnel, do more with less. It is only going to get worse. Some supervisors are heavily micromanaging police officers (e.g. time on an arrest, cut the investigation short and code out the job--be careful with this one, and so on). Doing a good job on an arrest takes some time.

Hey dipshit before I made sgt . I worked my whole career, most of it in numbers driven units/ teams . Where do you think sergeants come from.
And to the other guy with the list , YEA give them the damn report if warranted so we don't have to spend 3 hours trying to get out of a 10 minute report.

Hey moron, it's much easier for a PO to knock out a 2 line case report, than for a Sgt to type up a 40 page CR.

If a report is warranted, then the PO does not have a choice of not doing a report. The Sgt. is probably just telling you to do your job.
