Contract Approved by Full Council

  • Chicago Police officers will get back paychecks averaging $6,000 within 75 days — and an 11-percent pay raise over five years — thanks to a contract ratified Wednesday that guarantees pre-election labor peace for Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The contract overwhelmingly approved by the City Council marks the first time since 1996 that the contract covering 10,000 rank-and-file Chicago Police officers will not be decided by an independent arbitrator.

Emanuel made certain of it when he granted rank-and-file police officers the 4-percent retroactive pay raise he could have denied them because of a paperwork mistake made by their, now-ousted union president.
The city now has 75 days to come up with the retro money. That's 09 January.

The way I interpret this is that Rahm and the media both knew that if the city dangled a small retro check and pay raise in front of us, the majority of us are so short-sighted that we'd vote for it. He knew exactly what he could offer us in order to blind us from everything else he took away.

We were being played the whole time and we were too dumb to realize it.

Don't expect it anytime before New Year.
Rahm isn't doing this out of the goodness of his heart.... he's a Scrooge on steroids.... he has no heart.
He's doing this to give the appearance of being reasonable and nice towards public servants and he wants to portray that false image as election time approaches.

Prop 47 is having an immediate impact in our jails.

Here's a news release from Sac Sheriff Scott Jones:
========================================

Effective immediately, the passage of Proposition 47 will have the following effects on the custody and policing practices of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department:

1. In most instances, many crimes that were previously “arrestable” as a felony will now only be “citable” as a misdemeanor. That means they may not be booked into jail but rather given a citation (similar to a traffic ticket) with a court date to appear, and released in the field. They will not be held pending trial. Such felony crimes that are now misdemeanors include:

· Commercial burglary (theft under $950)

· Forgery and bad checks (under $950 value)

· Theft of most firearms

· Theft of a vehicle (under $950 value)

· Possession of stolen property (under $950 value)

· Possession of heroin, cocaine, illegal prescriptions, concentrated cannabis, and methamphetamine

2. Inmates awaiting trial on any of the above felony charges in most instances will be able to have their charges immediately reduced to the new misdemeanor level, and will be let out of jail on a citation. A determination as to each person’s eligibility is somewhat time consuming, but could result in up to 420 releases.

3. Inmates who are sentenced on the above felonies can petition the court for reduction of their felony convictions to misdemeanors and many of them would be also be eligible for immediate release.

4. Convicted felons with the above felonies in their history can petition the court to have their prior felony convictions reduced to misdemeanors. If successful, many of the prohibitions they faced would then be reinstated, such as the right to vote, the right to purchase a handgun, the ability to apply as a peace officer, etc.

Did i hear this correctly? Dean wants to give Bella $50k a year salary? Didn't Greg say he refuses to take a salary?

Greg Bella's agreement with Dean was that Bella would work in the office for nothing and Dean would make FOP's lawsuit against Bella go away. Bella lets a $200,000 check go out the door to his friends (lawyers) and Dean is going to let it go away. Bella must think that 6 months is long enough, now he wants $50,000 for a part time job. Its sad, but its true. Better than a wagon man taking $50 for a body isn't Mr. Bella?

To the poster asking about the denial of Personal Days, I recall Shields saying at many general meetings and in a number of newsletters, that the Time Due proposal was on the table. The city rejected the idea and the attorney Burns fought to kept it alive and was going to go to arbitration. Dean then came in, "hit the reset button" and withdrew all proposals. Then, miraculously we are voting on a contract in four month's time. So, yes, I think we can be denied Personal Days.

Well Goldman.

We would have gotten no less then the raise everyone else got. We wouldn't have been put in the Wellness program because if you were paying attention you would know that an arbitrator already ruled on that. We wouldn't have had the health insurance go to tiers and now when 2017 comes you will be crying every time you have to use your insurance. We wouldn't have gotten furlough by watch and future ppo's wouldn't have gotten screwed by our union. I could go on , but SCC does not like long posts. Read past arbitrations Goldman and you just might become a man someday.

Waa, waa, waa! It's over an done with, people. All this bitching and moaning sounds like the crabby citizens we deal with, or the Democrats who are pissed about the Republican victories.

YES, the contract affects those of us who voted, no, but for Christ's sake already, deal with it an move on. This is what we have as a contract and rightly or wrongly, that will not change by pissing and moaning. Evidently, for the foreseeable future, it appears we will have to deal with the loudly disappointed.

Enough already. If you don't like the contract, or the retro check, fine, I get it! I don't like it. I didn't vote for it. If you're that pissed off, give your retro check to charity, or better still, give it to me. That way, I'll find the contract more acceptable.

Otherwise, pull up your panties boys and girls and make your changes at the next election. Or maybe your one of those coppers who complain about who ever is running FLOP. If that is the case, buy yourself some sedatives and move on already.

Did any of you think we were going to get more then 11% once the firemen or Sergeants voted to accept their contracts?

Did you think if the contract was voted down, the city was going to negotiate that first year lost with us for something that the last regime at the FOP messed up and an arbitrator would not be allowed to address . Would you prefer we give up the 4% for the rest of your career and in your retirement years toward your pension.

You a-holes are the same winers who constantly complain at work, talk behind peoples back at work and smile in their faces. Kiss a bosses ass and then tell your peers, that boss is an a-hole.

Your the same idiots who sign up for every VRI date you can and complain about how the city is screwing with us. When you working VRI just justifies the city's need not to hire any new help.

And your the same A-holes who have the all the answers, know all but don't do S#*T. On the job or attend FOP meetings.

Just listing the stuff you don't like in the contract doesn't mean the arbitrator would've ruled that way. Past arbitrations have shown coppers typically make concessions, and gains; nothing overly advantageous or harmful.
Reading past arbitrations makes you a man? Seems attacking and questioning the manhood of someone who(might dare) ask a question or disagree with you will work too. Good to know.

V.R.I is a good deal.

As long as you don't want the pension you have worked for.

Less coppers hired equals,

Less people paying into the pension.

Save that VRI check.

You are going to need it.

All of you are still crying! If you think its better in the private sector , Quit! Some jobs out there dont even get a pay increase. Your crying and dont see the big picture. Maybe one day after 3 or four contracts (if u last that long) you"ll realize that the money you made helped with your children , house, car. Summer home, etc. But thats to far in the future for you. You want it now for not doing anything. Quit bitching and enjoy life. For all of you that understand, stay safe.

------

I understand. I have a sports car in the garage. I am taking advantage of the tuition reimbursement, most jobs only cover about $1,500 a year. Many people are losing their houses; I still have mine.

Of course Bella made that promise not to take a salary while campaigning. Him, Dean and their team ran on lying to everyone. The fools that believed their likes voted for them and now everyone has to pay for the fucked up contract, them undoing everything the prior administrations did, they even fired the girl that did our medical/IOD's, I can't believe this fop

Bella?

*****

As far as that law suit goes Mark "potato head" Donahue and Sid "I erased all of the board's tapes" Davis were the ones to sign the check not Bella.

Damn good haiku. The latest contract birthed by the unholy union of The City and Our Fraternal Organization wasn't constrained by the 5-7-5 pattern either.

For those officers on Duty disability the pension board is saying we won't see the pay raise or retro for 6 to 12 months. As always we get screwed. They will probably get out of paying us interest too since we should have gotten our pay in 75 days also
