Candidate Steps In It (UPDATE)
Couldn't find an actual officer to pose, so they make one up:
- The Fraternal Order of Police is crying foul over a direct mail piece distributed by a candidate for 2nd Ward alderman that shows a campaign staffer impersonating a Chicago Police officer.
Attorney Alyx Pattison is trying to stand out in a crowd of six candidates vying to replace Bob Fioretti in a completely redrawn ward that snakes through eleven different neighborhoods in one of the most bizarre configurations Chicago has ever seen.
But the FOP and the union’s rival candidate say Pattison has gone too far by distributing a slick mailer promising to make crime prevention her “top priority.”
It shows Pattison talking to a man who, at first glance, appears to be a uniformed Chicago Police officer in front of a marked squad car.
But a closer look shows that the uniform does not measure up to Chicago Police Department standards. The “uniform” cap lacks the proper insignia. The vest is not lined with armor. And the utility belt that on-duty police officers are required to wear is missing.
Yes, we're aware that an officer posing in uniform in a political ad is a violation of Department Rules and punishable by suspension time. But we are also aware of certain folks being used as props before in certain politicians flyers and posters and no harm befell their careers. They've been named here on occasion.
The FOP is all over this, but silent on the recent pardons and commutations Governor Potatothead signed on the way out the door. Candidate Pattison must not be the favored name that the Machine wants.
UPDATE: FOP released a statement just before this article went to post (which happens to be our third mention of the entire incident, including the heads up we got two days before.) Bravo.

The hell? That ward looks like a tapeworm I had coming out of Cambodia.
So low on the scale yet it receives ink in the paper!
Let me guess the opposition want blood for the goof in an add.
It is an add whatever you want to call it.
An no people don't get suspended for this paper work is drawn up by flunky watch commander who don't know better then it all goes away.
Sad part is coppers aren't paid to be in adds its a favor.
But it is Ok if you are an extra on Chicago fire/ Chicago PD in uniform because the mayor just got a nice donation from the movie studio CINESPACE.
If elected she will be another lying politician masquerading as an alderman.

A press release was issued. I had received an e-mail about it earlier today.
3:40 PM (7 hours ago)
Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge #7
January 13, 2015
President Angleo Issues Press Release
The decision of outgoing Governor Quinn to commute the sentence of Howard Morgan who was convicted of shooting three on-duty Chicago Police Officers has angered and disappointed our Membership. To have made an 11th hour decision of this nature is truly a slap to the faces of those very Officers who were wounded that night in 2005; as well as to the faces of everyone in the Law Enforcement community. This individual made a calculated and conscious choice to commit an act of violence against our Officers by firing 17 rounds at them.
What an idiot! You mean to tell me not one person in her campaign was smart enough to tell her that was illegal.
I mean seriously all that college education smartest girl in the room wasn't smart enough to figure this out.
Just goes to show you, too much college not enough common sense.
I wonder how she got the police uniform? can anyone just go into a uniform store and buy one?
after reading this, I am very surprised that she is denying that it is illegal. no wonder why she is running for aldercreature, she must have been a bad attorney.
The guy dressed up as a cop in the picture is a lawyer. His name is name is John DiFrancesco. he has sued the police
Alyx Pattison is a partner in the law firm that former Mayor Richard M.Daley joined after leaving City Hall. she has sued the police.
I don't think its ok, for a police hating attorney, one year out of law school to dress up as a Chicago police officer.
guess you didnt see the news release sent out by the lodge today condemning quinn and the pardon. It was over a page long and sent to all local and some national news agencies, newspapers and to all active members of the FOP via Email.. that is if you are a member who is enrolled for email notifications as I am. Also, the press release is the top notification on the home page of the FOP website. Didnt see any of that SCC before posting and bashing?? Im not really much a big fan of the current FOP administration but I do pride myself on being fair.. They did get on it so I will give them that at least... dont you know by now the media pics and chooses what stories they want to report? Hell, that basically your argument every single night.
Cannot tell from the pamphlet posted here but is there some fine print somewhere like there is on TV commercials, "actor portrayal". That wouldn't really make it right but might avoid legal problems.
Rahm as Congressman kept milling expensive glossy foldout full color pamphlets frequently to every household in his district and then some. At the bottom there was the tiny union printing bug, from a Washington D.C printing and graphics unions. Also in very fine print was the phrase, "This pamphlet was composed, printed and mailed at taxpayers’ expense." One of those pamphlets had a large portrait of a Chicago Police Officer who was his uncle. He did not have his uncle's or the photographer’s permission to use that photo.
They should be arrested period!
what a farce, It looks like the Patch is being held on with tape or pins.
what's up with calling all police posers on Halloween.
Isn't this similar incident like when That 14-year-old kid impersonating a police officer got busted?
I just read that kid got arrested again for just trying to buy a police uniform at a uniform store and he got hit with a felony. This really is no different than that incident.
The guy in the fake Chicago police uniform is not a cop. He is a Lawyer. you can't make this shit up.
Anyone with a first name of Alyx must be OK. Vote for her.
Pattison was/is an attorney at Katten Muchin, the law firm firm where Shortshanks in now a partner and the firm that dud the parking meter deal. Not that means she'd be a bad alderman...
Just like merit Lieutenant PG from 005, he did a television commercial for RAHM. Nothing happened to him but he was sent to a task force and received 2 promotions.
I got an email / press release yesterday afternoon from the FOP blasting Quinns release of the pos.
Hey, I think that's one of the guys that hangs out at Boubon St.
Thought my uniform looked bad, this cannot be a copper or could it be? If not has the paperwork been generated to arrest this impersonator, or is it politics as usual? Another minor black eye wearing our uniform and not earning it, but then again look at most bosses not much difference!
The guy in uniform, was it Vincent Richardson?
Geez, for most of us supposedly being PO's many posters here sure sound dumb. There can be no charges against the poser and their should not be any charges against anyone as he is portraying an officer in an ad but not impersonating one as he isn't confronting anyone on the street. You morons would want every actor in Hollywood arrested for impersonating? What a bunch of dumbsh*ts.
Dean Sr. hasn't worn the uniform in over a decade. And before that possibly another decade or two out of patrol.
FOP should stand up for more important issues and stop fucking around with this bullshit
Did FOP finally make a statement regarding the commutations by taterhead? I didn't see it.
Dr. Dean - a day late as usual.
Is there anyone at FOP that this actually conducting union business - watching our backs - or are they all just in it for themselves? Then again, what did we expect from a man who has milked the system for everything he could get.
She should've used real cops like Bita did!! http://bitanow.com/photos/
Oh wait, that's against department rules. So, which of you is going to call for them to be suspended??
Just another reason for FOP to get out of the "Endorsement" business......
Unbelievable She is a dirt bag!
She admitted that the guy in the Cpd uniform IS NOT A COP. But she said there is nothing wrong with dressing up as a chicago police officer, it's no different then Halloween
She does not even know it's against the law.
Pattison is the same Girl that helped the Daley crime family pass the parking meter deal that hurt the city bad. It was one of the worst things that happened to the city in the last 20 year.
She is no good.
I would like to know how the enemy got our uniform.
This pisses me off.
I'm gonna files a complaint on this her law license.
She should be disbarred for this bullshit.
police hater.
If i messed up they would get a CR on me in no time.
Disrespectful. And illegal , How dare she do something like this
we have earned the right to wear that uniform, every single one of us.
Many people have given up their lives wearing that uniform.
I think chargers should be filed because she perpetrate this crime.

Actually, yes anybody can. Do you think they ask for a police I.D. when you spend money at the uniform store??

CINESPACE Richie Daley practically killed what was a thriving movie industry in Chicago that was developed by Jane Byrne. He put new rental taxes and small businesses that supported productions like prop shops, lighting, and casting companies closed up as productions moved to Canada and elsewhere.
Shortshanks would never let a local money build an anchor studio here saying it was mob controlled. As opposed t a casino he wanted. Then he screamed that the movie CHICAGO was made in Toronto. The movie community here bit their tongue as they silently thought "Of course it was you idiot!"
Then what happens. They chased the steel fabricating industry out so who moves into the Ryerson
Steel plant at 16th and Western. A Canadian company called CINESPACE. Thanks, you destroyed all those small businesses and jobs and for what?
Heard she wanted to hire Vincent Richardson but he was locked up...again
Flashback: Rahm used a similar trick when he was running for public office. His brother in law or some sort Les Schmovitz (my Hebrew is terrible) from then Area Four was prominently featured in full uniform endorsing the tutu dancing queen Rahm in a political made for T.V.(television not transvestite for those conspiracy types) Soviet style campaign propaganda. Complete violation of rules and regulations for sworn detective Les. Coincidentally, Les went onto make Sgt. Wink, wink. Not kosher I tell you. Les was good people and had the right lineage. Work those campaigns and get the bump.
Impersonation of a police officer in violation of Chapter 720 I.L.C.S. 17-2 of the criminal code. The perpetrator is a lawyer who knows the laws and how to legally circumvent them nonetheless. How about a formal investigation from the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission. How about an ethical transgression in the legal profession type investigation. The ARDC is a political animal so this tactic used by radicals can be shrugged off as constitutionally protected political free speech. Never mind the overt on display deceptive practice by an attorney. This law degreed holier and smarter than thou attorney is trying to trick the uneducated masses.
If this attorney willingly and wantonly exercises a documented act of deception, what similar acts of deception are pulled off in a courtroom by this officer of the court? And most important, this candidate is seeking to hold a political office which has immense authority to tax, to regulate and to infringe under the color of law the freedoms of the citizens of Chicago? It is not far fetched to put lying, cheating and stealing past this auldermaniac candidate. This printed gimmick is a ruthless attempt to obtain immense legislative power with the goal to create personal wealth through governance by this licensed member of the bar. Everything done is legal of course and not subject to an ethics or criminal inquiry.
I don't see the problem.
In my 28+ years, I've seen MANY police impersonators wearing the uniform every day at roll call!
Can't arrest someone for posing in a picture. False personation involves furtherance which a picture can not provide proof of. He must have a star, an official insignia and be using it to infer that he is the police for personal gain or authority. Been there done that with impersonators. The ASA's won't approve if any of that is missing.
This is Major! There needs to be a Investigation on how they got the uniform. if a uniform store sold it to her they need to be exposed. How do we know if they are selling our uniforms to Gang Bangers or terrorist.
we need to bring them in and ask her and this kid how they got that uniform.
I'm glad the FOP went to Bat on this!
DAMN :(
That guy's not a real cop?
I worked with him for a week in 003!
He was white and looked older than 14 so I didn't question him.
I should had suspected something though when he offered to "bring the cruiser around" and even before we stopped for coffee he asked, "when are we gonna collar some perps?"
Now that I think about it, the red flag should have gone up when he said some day he'd like to work in CAPS and said he never heard of Seiser.
A political ad/flyer is essentially a commercial. Who are in commercials? Actors, celebrities, paid spokes people. I'm not to bent out of shape over this.
I mean..c'mon people! When I see a Viagra commercial on tv, I know that the happy couples aren't actually married couples. Jeeze!
That's the uniform he wears when he holds court in the "Mans Country" basement second door on the right. Rumored to be visited by a certain big city mayor, and a certain former Senator.
No you need a police ID to buy police uniforms. even the patch alone.
I just got out of the academy and I had to show them my police ID
Thanks Dean for Standing up and Protecting our uniform.
I think you guys did the right thing. I don't think anyone cares if real police do it but not a fake.
Bita is Good people. she is real pro police.
I locked up someone for just having the patch.
in the next piece she going to have the kid dressed up in a fireman uniform.

They did endorse the P.O.'s wife in that race. The people who interviewed her said she was the best of the lot without getting to her husband being the police. That was frosting on the cake.

Would like to know what they thought of the idiot candidate with the Greek name who has a bunch of "watch pages" in 012 and 014. The guy has no idea of how policing works, but thinks he does.
A lot of political ads feature fake cops, fake firemen, fake construction workers, fake assembly line workers, etc. Doesn't bother me one bit.
Not real long ago Obama visited an auto plant that was closed for the day. Lots of pictures of happy workers on the line waving to him.
very little about anything politicians say in their ads can be believed. I just tune them out as do just about everyone.
not a cop

He is a police hater too.
This women clearly broke the law. you cant buy a Chicago police uniform and stand in front of a police car. what if a gangbanger did it and took a picture.

That guy is creepy! he would drive around on his scooter and tell everyone he is the neighborhood watch.
I would not leave my kids alone with him, thats for sure.

How is dressing in a police uniform illegal if you are not doing anything that would qualify as impersonation (attempting to enforce or sit in a roll call etc..).
I'm not CPD...but I have a CPD hat from the Lodge and a CPD T Shirt that was given to me by a great guy I know from 014 thats now on one of the Warrant Teams. I jog in the T Shirt and wear the hat from time to time as a way to show my support for the CPD.
What is the municipal ordinance that prohibits non-CPD from having or wearing CPD gear?
For that matter....what about all the mooks that park their personal vehicles with CPD Checkerboard hat bands...I see more of those than are Cops on the payroll while out and about for Finance.
Just Curious...from that darn guy on a bike.

Not true.
I visit the uniform store on Roosevelt thats just west of Canal. Buy my pants and blue shirts there to wear for Revenue/Finance. Never once been asked to prove I was a Cop for 90 percent of the gear I've bought there in over 9 years with the city.
Now having said that...I could understand for purchases like ASP batons or Mace or other LEO/Security type gear (odd about the handcuffs though...but I get my from Lovers Lane in bright Pink).

Smart coppers have removed any and all identifiers from their vehicles many years ago when the anti-Police climate became entrenched and gained momentum and increased media play.
IMHO, the only ones displaying are the not quite so smart, the not quite so smart friends and family members, groupies, impersonators and low down shit heads.
If you're out and about wearing/displaying Police-y type stuff then you'd better be prepared to be sad, sore and sorry/equipped and able to handle business when unwanted attention for said regalia is focused like a laser on you...
Now...
"Hands Up Don't Shoot" or "Black Lives Matter" tee shirts and regalia?
Absolutely NOBODY is going to fuck with you, key your car, call in bogus shit, try to follow you to your home/place of work or damnit even pull up next to you
in traffic to shit talk and or drop shots at you...
Pro-Police rhetoric on an "insignificant blog?"
Nope... It's what's happening NOW at ground level.
For the working Police?
Run those plates of cars displaying medallions and hat bands and cross reference with the alpha roster.
Then govern accordingly...
