Sun Times Dying?

An interesting thing readers have noticed lately. You pull up the Sun Times website (we'd never spend money on that rag) and you see an interesting story, like the one about Officers suing Rahm for dumping them off the security detail. You get a very short paragraph:
  • Lawyers for 11 Chicago police officers who claim Mayor Rahm Emanuel removed them from his security detail for political reasons when he took office in 2011 have asked a federal judge to order the mayor to sit for a deposition as part of their ongoing lawsuit. The officers, who are all white or Hispanic, alleged in a 2012 complaint that Emanuel actively participated in selecting a new security team that included African-American officers with less seniority as well as officers who had volunteered for his campaign.
Then there's a link at the bottom - which goes to the Tribune pay website.

So, is the Sun Times on its last legs? Are they cutting back on actual reporters and just linking to Trib stories in an effort to generate money-for-traffic-references? The New York Times just laid off another 100+ employees. The print media is dying and the Sun Times seems to be barely hanging on.

The previous crew left an actual copy of the sun times in the car the other day. If it was 30 pages, I'd be surprised. It looked like a copy of the Red Eye, it was so thin.

Ask yourself how many newspapers Chicago needs. Many large cities only have one newspaper.

Or, did somebody hack the Sun Times and post a redirect to the Tribune?

Good riddance. Don't forget to turn off the lights before you leave. And don't forget to take Mary Mitchell.

They are all circling the drain.

I'm their prime demographic, but I will not buy propaganda.

I want news. The whole story, not the narrative, not the spin, not the democrat party press release, not the special interest group press release.

Every time I read a story about something I have first hand knowledge about, the story is factually wrong. Often, the story is obviously wrong when you look at the accompanying photos.

I never buy a newspaper, except for the Sunday ads.

Good and I hope they die quickly. They've led the way in sensationalist bullshit, biased reporting, bad taste, sub-par writing, and unfunny comics for years now. They put the Virginia Tech shooter on the front page with guns in both his hands, like an action-movie hero. But they demand more gun control laws ? They could start by not glorifying sick bastards like that guy, for starters.

The Sun Times will close before 2015. Richard Roeper sold his condo. Just a rumor, but the property on Ashland will be converted to cold storage. The real estate deal is supposed to be all but done.

The Sun Times has ALWAYS been the best newspaper in Chicago. The best for lining the floor pan of my 150,000 + mile squad car in the winter. It absorbs better than the Trib, conforms better and does not desolve as quickly. Penny for penny nothing sucks up the crap like the Times!

I haven't picked up either of the piece of shit rags in about 7 years. Get my news online and watch certain news outlets. I hope both of those agenda driven shit papers go out. You get better info and writing if you read the onion.

i know many people that stopped buying it after they unfairly slammed the police in various occasions. My uncle cancelled his subscription that he had for many years. Who do they think spends money on their paper. Certainly not the bustouts they like cater to and champion. The good people got fed up. (in addition to the whole electronic media thing) there are still old timers that read papers the old way...bad business on their part i say..

The Sun-Times used to own several suburban newspapers, including the Naperville sun, Aurora Beacon-News, and Elgin Courier-News. They recently sold all of them to the Trib. There may be something to this.

Huh? I can remember, maybe in the last century when there were a couple of Slimes reporters that actually knew how to report news.

If they try to reinvent themselves as a conservative newspaper it would save them. They would be only legit news source for the working class.

People refuse to pay for lies, tired of hearing about how whitey is keeping everyone down. Meanwhile you can't go to the mall. Advertisers can't sell their goods because you don't sell red pop at Ford City.

Good. With no jobs left, maybe journalism schools will die too, and reporting can return to the investigative procedure it used to be, instead of "the narrative" propaganda tool it's become.

The most valuable property owned by the Sun-Times is The Reader. The rest is garbage without a new way of doing business.

I have some ideas for a new business model that might make money in this digital age but I don't own the Sun-Times so I am not giving them advice for free.

I cancelled my Sun Times subscription after reading too many articles bashing Bush II, I never read many bashing Willie Jefferson Clinton when he was President. I called and told them why I was cancelling, not that they cared, but I bet they care now.

Let's see if the socialists will bail out your rag now. If they would have remembered the basics of reporting, who, what, when, where, and their responsibility to the citizens, to inform them without bias, instead of reporting with the socialist template in mind, they might have been in better shape.

I could then take a longer lunch!

THATS when I stopped reading. They just jumped on the Pro-Bama bandwagon.

BTW, the heading came down after Obummer was elected.

Bought a newspaper every day for 50 years. Stopped, got more and better news on line. Realized newspapers have old, stale news in today's world. No need for them. Selling buggywhips. People talk about editorial content, but who in hell would advertise in them? circulation numbers worth shit, and all of it waste!

Happiness will be seeing members of local media and their families hunting along the banks of the Ship & Sanitary Canal for river rats to pad their pork n' beans with.

It'll be a much needed laugh in the war against Policemen and their concerns...

Aren't there rules against that?"

It's really hard to take journalism or press criticism seriously from a bunch who voted for a contract that included 400 new vehicles! The Sun Times is a rag, no doubt, mostly because its owner has no clue what would constitute a journalistically sound publication, but at least the guild writers and editors (yes, they are unionized) didn't vote for a contract that included 400 new desktop computers!!!

At least about journalistic integrity and such...

Well, at least the cops have rules to abide by.

The little good that does when everything that is modern society is being dragged out to sea.

Thems that ran for high ground are all good.
Thems that got a dinky little boat might be ok.
Thems in the water be imperially fucked...

The media wants to see Policemen being ground to hamburger in the debris filled receding undertow for some odd reason.
