Vehicle Count

Thanks to a reader, we can say that the FOP's negotiated 400 vehicles has come to pass:
  • 1AT - All Terrain Vehicle - 1 purchased
  • 1AU - Automobile - 14 purchased
  • 1MC - Motorcycle - 14 purchased
  • 2PU - Pick-Up Truck - 3 purchased
  • 2SP - Sport Utility Vehicle - 367 purchased
  • 2VA - Van, Cargo - 32 purchased
  • 3PT - Prisoner Transport Vehicle - 3 purchased
  • 3SQ - Squadrol, Police - 5 purchased
Total: 439 vehicles

The number/letter combo seems to be a budget code. We have no idea what the 1AU is - Tactical cars? 14 seems a bit low. Exempt vehicles? More likely. And 32 cargo vans? Why?

In any event, those are the numbers the city will toss out if anyone questions the language included in the contract.

Cargo vans are the newer ford econline wagons. The 5 squadrols purchased are the bigger wagons of old. I'm pretty sure the 14 automobiles are new Chevy impalas the city is testing for sgts.

Those vans, you sure they're not the ford transit to be used by evidence?

16 cars per district? Yep, that'll do it. That number will really only be around 8 or 9 for patrol. Some cars for units, others for sgts cars and some for tac. Always happens too that at least one per district gets wrecked in the first two weeks on midnights.... It's always on midnights because on midnights they drive 95mph to calls of domestics or prostitution calls and other nonsense. I did it myself when I was young so can't throw stones. Are they buying just 400 or every year buying 400?

Getting ready for 10 hour days.. You can tell just by how many transport vans the bought.. Those are the new wagons... Only 22 districts and they bought 32 along with 5 regular wagons. Enough for one added wagon per district and enough for replacements and pools of older wagons

Strictly speculation...

14 "1AU" Autos and 14 "1MC" - Motorcycles to be used for dignitary escorts. The current fleet of escort vehicles is aging and we can't have O'Bummer & Co. escorted by anything less than the best.

32 "2VA" Cargo Vans - The rumor is 30 or so Evidence Technicians immediately after the test is administered and graded. Since the ETs routinely do out-of-grade work as Crime Lab people, perhaps this is a way of having all the equipment and supplies necessary and on hand at any given scene.

1 "1AT" All Terrain Vehicle - To be assigned to Zach Emanuel so he can meet his Horticulturalist Liaisons in a plethora of environments while maintaining the capability to beat a hasty retreat if things were to again go south.

Why is it a union issue to negotiate the types and quantities of vehicles purchased?????

Isn't there a clout position or two that manages that area?

Wouldn't that be the job of an Operations Director or Fleet Management Executive? I am sure there is a whole department dedicated to that function.

If you have incompetent people in these supposed "management positions" - why are they still there collecting a check?

Cut all these $100,000-plus wonders if they are not doing the job. It is AMAZING the amount of waste in the City of Chicago budget.

You cops will rue the day the FOP made the every day equipment needed to do your jobs a "benefit" to be negotiated just like health care & salary. etc. There's no way to keep the city from dangling this "benefit" before every future negotiating team. Anyone from from FOP who tells you this is a one time negotiating tactic from the city is a liar.

No. Fucking. Way.
Will CPD EVER see cars like that.
Young'uns and hidey-hole bosses will kill themselves
in those things... It's a different skill set in rear drive sedans with lots of power and torque although tire, brake and stability technology will save some asses...

>Wheel cranked all the way to the stop, sideways + outside tire on fire from the spin and it's un-weighted... Badly<

(The new Impalas are still front wheel drive but are pretty damn ballsy with the 3.6L v6.)

Just like back in '94 when Chevy re-did the 9c1 Caprice with a Corvette engine with iron heads and improved cooling.

5.7 liter (350 c.i.) and @ 260 h.p.
versus 190 h.p. for the previous generation Police engine.

Funny but CTA Special had those cars.

Not sure why anyone would waste their time thinking about the city buying new police cars or not. It's simple, if they don't give us working vehicles or equipment we can't do our jobs and will just sit around in the station all day. This is a city issue only. We are only as good as our equipment. We supply ourselves with uniforms, vests, weapons etc. etc. The city supplies the vehicles. If not, then oh well.

Just goes to show how dumb some younger, and older, cops can be when a bunch of FOP clowns asks them what should be top items. How do you add that in and look serious to the city across the table?

And retro? Retro is a sign that the city fucked you out of money that they, not you, earned interest on while they held it and used it for what they needed while you and your families went without. But you morons just wanted that lump some of chump change. Stupid. But then again this is a group that will work VRI and not realize the city is fucking them with that little trick too.

If what happened in Paris happened in Chicago hundreds of citizens and police officers will die. Swat has no take home cars. We have been told to STFU and drive our personal cars to HBT jobs.

Zero support from the Exempts. The city steals the Homeland Security money and pays the VRI overtime instead of equipping the SWAT team. Are there no investigative reporters to investigate? Look at how many armored vehicles, LA, or New York has. They are proud to have a SWAT team. Our city considers us a necessary evil. Compare our equipment and response time to other major cities. We are a joke.

Our leadership cares only about making rank. Terrible, disgusting cowards. Lt soon to be Captain never made any waves. All he was good for was destroying morale.

Georgas and Guiliford don't have a clue but they actually think they know what is best for a SWAT team. They bow down to any political agenda that the liberal news accuses. They cry like little school girls. "No armored vehicles on warrants. We don't want the ghetto and media to think we are militarizing CPD."

Bow down you cowards. Bow down like the dogs you are. Get on those knees so you can make higher rank. Wipe your mouths with your inflated pay checks and pretend you are a police officer.

If you forgot how good any of you really have it come back to a watch and beat car and you will quickly remember how much it sucks. And if the last time you worked a beat car or on a watch was in the Phil cline era then things have really really changed. A district that has been ravaged and changed by j fed and McCarthy is nowhere close to the days of hillard and cline. Be happy u are not in a district and stop your crying about problems and issues that are not issues at all in the grand scheme of things.. That goes for all units. A unit no matter what unit is better than any district watch in this city hands down... Stop showing how spoiled you all are.

SWAT has been useless since its inception. Has the SWAT team ever made an arrest ? SWAT was started after a TV show of the same name, was seen by a goofy deputy named Walter Vallee. Walter, who was about 5' 7"
liked the show and thought that the CPD should copy this TV show, and start a SWAT team. And that is how Chicago got a SWAT team.

Marianovich, Georgas, and Guliford please explain to the citizens of Chicago and the jury why SWAT was given take home vehicles and after one month 80 percent of them were taken away and sat at Area 1 over three months. Could it be you were trying to send a message to Hamilton and Masters?

Explain this to the families of citizens and police officers killed about your negligence. Lake Shore Drive job showed how long it took SWAT to respond. That was over a year ago. You still have done zero for us. Cannot wait for you to show the courts what have you done to remedy the response of SWAT since 2006.

All three of you are merit suck holes. Please enlighten us on what you have done to build a SWAT team? Cannot wait to see all three of you in court testifying in the lawsuit. Everything will be on the record. Now go get your shine box. McCarthy needs all three of you on your knees.

Is this for real? Sounds like a good story for the media. Merit promotions are destroying CPD.
