Narrowing the Field

Our tin-foil hat conspiracy post.

So Rahm and the Machine front up four candidates, all with colorful histories of their own, in an effort to make Rahm seem like a moderate, sane individual. As some start to stand out, someone - the Machine, Rahm's people, the bought-and-paid for media - knocks out the underpinnings in an effort to drive voters to chose Rahm and get him to 50%-plus-one. Examples:
  • Willie Wilson "stumbles" and tries to appeal to "whiteys" then has a mild kerfuffle as he denies, is confronted by media recording, backtracks and claims his heavy accent made him misunderstood. As one of the two black candidates, he's already splitting the voting bloc with Doc Walls. Now he looks a bit like a racist loon which might scare white folks (especially liberals who were thinking he was just a successful businessman) into giving Rahm another look and the more moderate black voters into not wanting to vote for a nut job.

  • Chewie/Chuy gets dragged through the mud this weekend with revelations that his felonious gangbanging offspring got free legal representation from a pretty heavy law firm. Chewie/Chuy denies having anything to do with that, but now the stories start up about the apple not falling far from the tree and suddenly, the guy who was suddenly running second, looks like another whack job with a shady past and an even shadier future. Is he even running second after this week?
As the other candidates get painted with the crazy brush, connected brush or criminal brush, Rahm' inches closer to 50%-plus-one and may actually avoid a runoff. If Wilson and Chewie/Chuy end up cratering, Rahm gets the runoff he wants against....another white guy!  The black and brown voting blocs don't have a horse in the race, so they sit it out.

Discuss.

What an astonishing coincidence that the Chuy-kid story broke on the first day of early voting. Proof what a sleaze Rahm really is.
Rahm's people have been worried about Chuy since day one, sending flyer after flyer, dropping stuff in mailboxes, sending postcards, all about how terrible a guy this Chuy Garcia is.
If Rahm's that scared, I might change my Fioretti vote to a Garcia vote, but you better be damned sure I'm NEVER changing my vote to Emanuel.

Nice scenario but look back at the Daley vs. Byrne vs. Washington race in the 80's. Washington grammatically fumbled his way to the Mayors Office.

Fioretti is running a ghost campaign compared to the other 3. I wouldn't even count him in the running. Chuy will get trounced because of the current bad press. That would leave Rahm and Businessman in a run off.

Talked to someone from Napolitano camp tonight. Early voting at the library on Northwest Hwy was at least 80-90 % Napolitano. OConnors support has plummeted in 41. Naps has a extremely organized, smooth operation in place and have identified their voters. The only place OConnor has some support is Edgebrook and she is not doing as well as she needs to do there to pull out the election. Everybody in 41 knows she has voted with Rham 98-100% of the time. Napolitano had around 1500 signs they ordered, all but a few are up. This is a good race, stay tuned and vote like your pension and insurance depends on it......

Gov. Rauner Hires Dan Webb In Promised Legal Action Against 'Forced' Union Dues — Labor Vows Battle

So, we'll be getting screwed TWICE... First our tax money gets used by Rauner to pay probably millions to Dan Webb and his law firm. Then our union dues get used to defend against the legal attacks by Rauner and Dan Webb.

The only ones who will win here are the lawyers (as usual!).

The Stench of Obama and Clinton are filling the room. Axelrod and Rahm are famous for dirtying up opponents at crucial times, and in politics timing is everything. Consider that this Chuey Gangbanging son info was out there, but it did not surface until the weekend before the early voting. Wow, what a coincidence, or are there no real coincidences in Cook County Politics. Remember the way they dirtied up Obama's opponent when BO ran for the Senate? Clinton was famous for the same tactics, and remember, Axelrod and Rahm were the power behind Clinton and BO. But SCC you are 100% correct, Rahm just stole the election, Run-Off is over. Also note the same weekend that Chuey's kid got dirtied up as an offender, Rahm suddenly got his kid painted as a victim, because for some unexplained reason, suddenly Rahm is prosecuting the kid who robbed his kid. What a contrast; one candidate has a son who is a scholar/victim and the other has a son who is a turd piece of shit."G"

On the Facebook page "City Workers Past And Present", two or three people who have to be Chuy Garcia's campaign workers, have taken over the page and are demanding that everyone has to vote for Chuy because he is our ONLY HOPE of beating Rahm.

You'll recognize them by their hispanic last names and profile pix of Chuy Garcia or them standing with Garcia.

When other commentors even suggest that Chuy has credibility or ethical baggage, Chuy's people jump all over those people and drown them out.

Garcia, to me, will just be a repeat of Daley, complete with a bad son who hates the police and was arrested for attacking two cops in 2010, and trying to give away the City to the illegals.

Let's not forget the shameful front page declaration the Rahm was their man in the Sun Times on Sunday. I can remember when a candidate got an endorsement it was in a small article in the opinion page. Now the Sun Times feels like it has to put his best picture and endorsement on the front page.

They are not content with reporting the news anymore, they must make the news, sway public opinion and be the story. It's almost like they had a stake in the outcome. Oh right, they do. Chicago has the best fourth estate money can buy. Disgusting!

All the pre polling is being done to keep people from showing up to vote. If people think Rahm has it in the bag, they may not bother voting , ensuring Rahm victory. I have not yet met (or had someone admit to) anyone who voted for him yet. I have met many people that just don't vote. Only 25% of the city voted last time. He won 50% of that. So really, only 10% of this city voted for him. There is no way to spin the fact that if we all vote for anyone else but Rahm he is forced to a run off.

"Also note the same weekend that Chuey's kid got dirtied up as an offender, Rahm suddenly got his kid painted as a victim..."

Neatly enough, the suspect who attacked Rahm's son, who seems to be heading to trouble of his own by all reports, will be processed in the Juvenile Courts where the case will be anonymous and largely closed to the media. If the suspect has been arrested so often, one would think that the State's Attorney could have requested that he be tried as an adult (the perp was 17 when the crime took place and he is 18 now), but that would not have suited Rahm.

The "quid pro quo" smear on Garcia looks pretty weak if you examine the story in detail -- the bond deal voted upon in the County Board occurred years later. Rahm and Axelrod are counting on people who read the headline and not the full article.

With millions at his disposal, Rahm should be coasting to victory, but he is running scared. That explains why he needs to resort to his favored smear tactics.

Everyone should do their part and deliver a message by seeing to it that this ass does not get 50% + 1 on election day. The embarrassment of Emanuel being forced to take part in a run-off election will be humiliation enough for this egomaniac.

Line 11: Not giving campaign money to charity or returning it is a big red flag. Why, because he took money from the Republican party as shown in other documents. Also, dude doesn't even realize the importance of putting his money in a Rark Ridge bank while running for Alderman in Chicago. * But worst off all, Rahm has no intention of funding our city pensions to a court-mandated level, instead wanting to diminish our earned retirement plan.

Seriously, why is there any conversation still going on with this? Fioretti is a friend of the police. He's actually been seen at the wakes of police officers, and waits in line like a regular guy...why is there still a question as to who to give our significant number of votes to? Vote for Fioretti.

Reluctantly, I agree with you.

Rahms interns have flooded the trib and here with he's already won talk and the others are crazy. Don't buy it...Fioretti needs your vote. Chuy and Rahm are for the criminals who are trying to kill you.

My friends and family are voting for anyone but Rahm. But we are helping to vote him out of office.

How come nobody is bringing up the fact that Rahm was spearheading the investigation into the Jackie Robinson West players? He cost our young African American heroes their United States Championship! Racist bastard! Unfortunately, he thought they were involved in a dance competition.

I wish Garcia would have denounced his gang banging cop hating son. I will vote for Rahm now.

______

This is great logic. You don't like his son and expect a politician with integrity to denounce his own son, no matter how fucked up he is, so will now vote for Rahm... Gfy buddy, just put your head up his ass and continue to think you are the center of the internet blogs and society in general. This is the dumbest post I've read here in a long time...
