Last month, there were two, count em, one...two, openings citywide in 019.
This month, there are zero. Why?
There are a few sergeant openings, mostly south, but some west and north.
But nothing for the P.Os.

Sgts are only 40 short right now. Normally in November and December between 50-60 sgts retire. This year only 4 sgts in November and 2 in December. Know why?? Because 85 percent of the sgts are young now. Word around is that it's gonna be another long wait for this sgts list. Estimates is that they will only get up to 375 or so on this list max.. And that could still be all the way in 7-8 years from now. I was just short of enough time to take the last test... Now I wait 9 years to take this test and get 445 on this one.. Now next test might be 10 years or so now? Maybe 9? Which means I'll have over 20 years taking that test then what wait 6-7 years to make it if I do ok on it.. Wtf. Hey sgts.. Just pull the pin and retire so they can get through this list and give another test. Yes, I'm being a complete whiner.. I agree.
Don't think that makes sense we all know some old timers that pulled the plug in these last few months and the department plays dumb.This is why morale is down citywide some guys will never be able to transfer until they have 10 years on.

There are no cops left. We've dwindled down in size so badly that there are no more positions to fill or bodies to fill them with.
The Sgt openings are there by contract. It was part of our negotiations. Any bid spot not filled must remain open till taken. We didn't feel squad cars were more important.

Hey stupid....those only come AFTER the contract has expired, negotiations have stalled for several years and THEN a NEW contract is voted on and ratified by both the members and the city. Once that is done, the city has a certain number of days (the actual amount escapes me right now) to pay up and they always wait until the very last day to do so. Oh yeah, the retro only covers the time frame from when the contract actually expired to the date the new one was accepted by the city.
So if you're waiting on that to pay for a new jar of hair gel, you're better off collecting cans. LOL

And, I worked on enough joint operations with different feds that I know some are good, some not so good, so I don't judge by labels.
My comment was directed at the OP, who loves to post antagonistic comments, just to stir the pot here.
As for Jody, I do happen to know him, way back from when he was a fed, and I think he's a narcissistic jerk who's never met a mirror or a tv camera he didn't like. He's shown himself to be vindictive and petty in his prior career, as well as on CPD. He's also sorely lacking in policing experience. (Note, I said 'policing', not 'law enforcement'. He had a long fed career pushing paper.)
As for having him work alongside me, he's shown a repeated lack of judgment and I wouldn't take a chance on losing my life because of him.

For the record, a lot of officers were cautiously hopeful that an ex-fed would have a good effect on the Department. What we got was a narcissistic boob that didn't have a clue and carried Mayor Daley's water. We had hoped he would put him in jail.

I had a confidential CR on me that stretched on for two years. States Attorney, US Attorney etc were asked to look into it. Complainant had clout. Jody found all of the counts against me, (at least 8) ALL unfounded or exonerated. All of them. That killed the cvil suit. Complainant came back for another turn at bat. Jody ordered IAD to give the same results as the first time using the file on the 1st complainant as justification.
I was amazed. Jody did me a solid and also the 8 PO's accused along with me. I have no complaints about the man. Certain retiree has his beef, a PO got too much punishment but he took care of me and I never met him.
He ran counter to Daley and got us the 4 and 2. Also M4 carbines. And training. No complaints here.

Not true. McCarthy has saved many po's on beefs. In fact FOP complimented him several times in the newsletter on actions hes taken to help po's. What about veterans returning injured from Iraq being put on light duty?
