Let's Disarm
- Speaking to the Aspen Institute on February 6, Michael Bloomberg said cities should ban young minority males from owning guns, both as an effort to reduce crime and to keep those minority males “alive.”
According to The Aspen Times, Bloomberg addressed a variety of topics, and after commenting on poverty and education, he discussed guns. The Times reported that he said, “Cities need to get guns out of [the] … hands” of persons who are “male, minority, and between the ages of 15 and 25.”
He claimed that “95 percent of all murders fall into this category” and that taking guns away from them will not only reduce crime, but will “keep them alive.”
Since publication, the Aspen Times has altered the story a bit, taking out some of the inflammatory language that would get any right-leaning individuals tarred and feathered. But this is the Bloomberg nanny state in all its glory. Not a word about "responsibility" or "parents" or "self-control." Nope, just "ban the guns!" not seeming to realize that most people of all stripes are subject to all sorts of restriction already, none of which stop the criminals.

None of the mayoral debates even came close to the most serious issue pending for the city's financial situation and, more importantly, the looming question of what it will mean for those of us trying to plan our futures in need of that contractual pension promise.
If it's a matter of clear contractual and lawfully binding commitments that cannot be taken away, even then, we can't ignore the mathematical certainty of insolvency.
Either way, whether the courts rule in our favor or allow for changes and reductions, we should contribute ideas for ways to modify, if necessary.
If they are going to get away with making changes (lowering benefits, increasing our contribution), we should have some say so as to what changes take place.
Just ban all guns and issue a stern warning to minority bad guys of those ages to cut it out or else.

That has to be the first thing that Bloomberg ever said that I agree with. Agree with him 120.87%.
Bloomberg is the first person EVER to publicly put a racial factor into the gun control/gun violence discussion. He will be villified as racist AH.
Just think what the reaction would have been if this had been said by Wayne LaPierre or Charleton Heston?? Or any NRA board member?
This kind of gun restriction was actually legal in this country at one time. In the South after the Civil War the Democrats enacted laws that prohibited firearm possession by Blacks. These were known as "Jim Crow" laws.
Why should I, as a law-abiding white person, have my right to freely access firearms encumbered because the inner city minority male population can not control itself?
Actually the cities could very easily get the guns out of the above mention hands quite easily and without the furor that such a law like the above would create.
When a person commits a crime with a gun and a prison sentence is specified, put them away for the whole term.
Easy solution.
Sounds like any good Democrat going back to the 1800's. Remember the KKK was the militant arm of the Democrat Party since the 1870's. Bloomberg's speech merely supports the same aims of the Black Codes of the 1870's.
Look at Washington DC! They banned handguns and had no murders since the law was passed, Right?
Chicago banned guns and you know longer need to worry about murders in Chicago. It's not like we have 400 or 500 murders every year. We never have 2000 people shot every year in Chicago either.
Nanny state? Please, let's call it what it is! Bloomberg want's to re-enact the Jim Crow laws of the deep South. Black men couldn't keep weapons or arm themselves. The ultra Liberal Mayor really stepped into some deep Southern post Civil War mud! Back him against the wall and ask how his idea is different from the old laws!
Bloomberg merely wants to restart the Black Codes. They worked so well in the South. Remember how peaceful the South was in the 1870-1960's? The blacks were so happy in the South they ran North as fast as they could.
After all, what's a few beating and lynchings amongst Democrats?
This is a fantastic example. How long will it be until everyone who has legally EARNED the right to carry concealed in Illinois, more so, the fine County of Crook, has a visit from several individuals who say, "Mr or Mrs. So and So, our records indicate that you have.... and that you must forfeit it to us?" Hitler did the same thing if I remember right. Sounds like NY is the start of something "special".

Seriously, it would be OVER for Trump's TV shows, and over for any future candidacy for Bush or Christie.
The idea might have some merits but it's aimed (no pun intended) at the wrong issue. Better parenting and instilling better values is where his focus should be.
Remember he wanted to ban large soft drinks for everyone because he thought people were getting to fat and he was going to solve that. Think about that for a moment, ban large drinks.
Mayor Bloomberg feels he is the sole solution, so HE will tell us what we can and cannot do. Sound familiar? Big government is not the solution, it is the problem.
If Bloomberg hates guns so much why doesn't he move to Europe ?
How many of these young minority males are legal gun owners anyway? Aren't most of them already banned from owning guns, by being underage or having prior felony convictions?

They do not have the courage or moral bearing to make the hard decisions, or to actually stand up and risk their lives.

Thee Rant is one of the most difficult blogs to read - ever. No, no, no. We don't need any more 'improvements' from NYC.
Bloomberg has enough money to purchase every gun ever made. Why doesn't he just buy up all the guns in the world, including his bodyguards? Put his money where his equally big mouth is!
The problem being for Bloomberg's particular White Liberal Demographic Blacks are the test case and canary in the Coal Mine for measures ultimately aimed at non-elite whites.
And to cut to the chase Bloomberg isn't White, isn't Liberal and he would disarm us next.
