10 Dead, 34 Wounded

  • At least 10 people were killed or found dead under suspicious circumstances since 3 p.m. Friday afternoon across Chicago.

Among the dead were the decomposing bodies of a mother and her three children found in an East Chatham home with evidence of trauma and a fire that was never reported, and three men dead in a double-murder-suicide in the Mayfair neighborhood Friday afternoon.

Thirty-five people were also wounded in shootings as far north as the Albany Park neighborhood and as far south as Roseland. Some of the wounded were in critical condition. No side of the city was without a shooting this weekend.
Granted, a few of these were "innies," and even the mighty J-Fled couldn't prevent a domestic from spiraling into homicide, but from what we can gather, Chicago is averaging in excess of sixty shot per week. Sixty. That's ridiculous. We're up hundreds of shootings from last year and dozens of homicides. The "crime is down" phrase is getting worn a bit thin as of late.

I have a sincere question for all of you who have lived in Chicago for a long time and/or were born and raised there. I keep hearing people on various message boards and forums (let me emphasize that I'm not talking about the media) saying that crime these days in Chicago is not much compared to what it was in the 80s and early 90s. These people are saying that there were a lot more shootings and murders back then. Thankfully, I now live VERY far away from Chicago and Illinois, but when I lived in Chicago, I don't remember the violence being this bad. I first arrived to Chicago in the summer of 95 in case anyone is wondering. As far as I know, Chicago was a good place to be back then. Sadly, it's not anymore and my heart breaks about Chicago's deterioration.

Ok, so here's my question to you Chicago guys and gals. Are the number of shootings and murders really down from the 80s and 90s or are the people who say this crap just repeating Rahm and the machine's bullshit?

Thanks in advance.

Another Emanuel/McCarthy/Preckwinkle summer -- Emanuel absent after having poked McCarthy in the a__ with a sharp object.

Yo, Mac, Mayor proud of you, right? Gov. too. Ever get invited to the $100,000/year private wine club in Montana to glug back a $6000 bottle in a couple of (gasp) goes? They know better, want to keep their outdoor lighting the way it is.

...and Preckwinkle running around Harrison with Lysol Spray, OMG, OMG, all these...well, dead people. Ick.

MurderFest Chicago 2015.

Always-on-the-lookout Ari will name the next expensive, multi-day noisemaker after that -- and sell T-shirts printed with the logo.

The priority in Chicago is not crime, it's making sure people use re-usable bags when grocery shopping.

Watched that last night on the News. They are going to start charging for plastic bags? Someone wants people to pay for their grocery bags? THAT is outrageous!!

Are people on LINK going to have to pay for the bags or is there some new program that will subsidize them for the plastic bags?

Let get priorities straight. Who cares about the shootings? Let's make sure people can get free bags for grocery shopping.

Obama admin looks to ban some Social Security recipients from owning guns

July 20, 2015

"The Obama administration wants to keep people collecting Social Security benefits from owning guns if it is determined they are unable to manage their own affairs, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"The push, which could potentially affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, according to the paper.

"The language of federal gun laws restricts ownership to people who are unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” – which could potentially affect a large group within Social Security..."

Its happening in every bigger city in America. Every bigger city in America has their own version of comstat. Those bigger cities have also cut back on their officers and in some smaller cities they eliminated the entire police force. The federal governent has cut funding for law enforcement and are trying to rely on COMSTAT to keep crime down. Wakeup America!

Anybody hear Craig Dellimore's" interview with The Supt over the weekend? Trying to suggest this as if I were able to leave my bias opinion behind, but The Supt really believes he's in possession of a "gifted" mind when it comes to Law Enforcement. It's theory and most certainly it's application.
John Oliver would be delightful to take our Dear Supt to task. I'd love to actually ask Mr. Dellimore posthumously if he too believes The Supt is far less than truthful on topical issues. According to The Supt he's come up with a lot of theory and practice as if he were an Einstein, just in the field of law enforcement.
A lot of head strong opinion out of The Supt, but not much to boast of in reality.

In response to 1:01AM,

Chicago is a much more dangerous place now than it was in the 80s or 90s. There are fewer nice places to live and even the tourist-y places aren't safe. Years ago, the City made sure that at least Michigan Ave, etc. were safe for the tourists. There are fewer murders now than thirty years (murders used to be near a thousand a year), but that's only because trauma medicine is so much better now. People who were shot or stabbed are now living, when they would have died on the hospital table even ten years ago. The doctors are just saving more people...the City is definitely not experiencing fewer shootings or a safer place to live.

This is the guy who asked the sincere question about Chicago violence earlier. In fairness, I should add that back in the 80s to mid 90s, we didn't really have the internet, or at least the current version of the internet, so we weren't able to get news as fast and as instantly as we do now.

But still, even back then, we eventually did hear the news, and that would include violent crime.....and I still don't remember Chicago crime being as bad as it is now.

You can't live in the past of the 80' and 90's. What's happening today in Chicago?

Every 3:13 a person is shot
Every 18:33 a person is murdered

77.3% victims are black
18.8% victims are hispanic
Total 96.1% of all homicide

Neighborhoods have changed and not for the better.

If the media would report the news and not make up the news would anyone want to live or visit Chicago, that might get the Mayor upset.

Many years ago, aggresive and preventive patrol was the order of business. Now, after the last 6-!/2 years, policing has taken a hands off approach as totally demonstrated by the politics of Baltimore. Police will do there jobs, answer calls, write reports and write a ticket and parker every now and then. That's it as a result of the policy coming from the White House.

Black violence is out of control throughout this country. The black community continues to blame everyone else for their problems and it is not going to get better.

Yes, there were many more murders and shootings during the "Crack Wars" of the late 80s and early 90s. If I remember right Area 2 had well over 300 murders in one year alone,1993 I think, and the FBI sent agents to work there side by side with the detectives, much to the chagrin of the dicks.

From a blog troll: This is what we have become Mr. Southside; we are a death culture because anti social government programs. We do not attend church or live faithful lives, if you do or have faith you are belittled and castigated. It took a big jump forward with fetus crushing, fetus body part sales and service when Roe v. Wade was social policy forced on citizens by the supremes, liberal social benefits in exchange for more welfare, more welfare and less jobs, failing schools where 9 in ten CPS students cannot read at grade level and almost 4 in ten cannot read at all. They will never have jobs or build wealth or be self sufficient or have a moral system built in any kind of faith other than a government social program. And we are shocked at ten dead and scores wounded? Not me, I am not surprised. Rather it figures, it makes sense and the numbers have no where to go but up.

It's no wonder the overall "product" coming out of South Side(Chicago Public, presumably?) schools is fucked beyond fucked. And it's not just the south side, to be perfectly clear. It's most of the CPS.

You claim to have taught for 42 years, yet your grammar, spelling and punctuation are absolutley atrocious (that means shockingly bad or appalling, Bob). If you represent even 25% of the past or present teaching staff of the CPS (and I'm being WAY conservative on this number), it's little wonder why the average kid that actually graduates from a CPS high school tests out to read at a 5th grade level when applying for college.

Selective Enrollment programs aside, here's prima facie evidence why you need to keep your kids out of the CPS system.

I'd say if they have gone down they havn't gone down much. Unlike the overall city population which has gone down quite a bit. Now understand even tho we have taken down those terrible CHA high rises these knuckle heads still find a way to shoot each other on a scale as high, or higher, then their fathers did.

Medical science kick starts them back to a life of crime nowdays with an application of awesome science that has to be seen to be believed. Ive seen them bled out with no blood pressure only to see the same kid on the corner a month later. Minus an organ or two but alive. These medics and ER staffs are like Army battle trauma's they have gotten so good saving these numbskulls after they shoot each other.

They are shot with much deadlier weapons and ammo today as well and still survive. Back in the '80s the gangsters used to almost always use .25s, .32s, .22s, and occasionally a .380 or 9mm. Now it starts at 9mm and goes up from there, AND, they use much better ammo like high velocity JHPs from premium bullet makers. All acquired illegally BTW with drug profits.

Add to this deadly mix a Police Dept. with very poor morale that has far, far, far less ability to make an impact then we had in the '80s. Were tired of being demonized, video taped, spat on, insulted, sued, shit on daily from these scumbag newspapers so desperate to survive they sell Police negativity routinely because people want to buy it.

In short we have learned that while you do have to go to your calls nobody can make you see anything. How would you feel after stopping a car load of felon gangsters and seeing the entire neighborhood pour out to tape you and protect the rights of these same shit heads poisoning and murdering their children?

Its like the entire world has turned upside down and eventually you just stop giving a shit, do your 8, and go home to your own family safe.

Chicago was worse, much worse back in the 1970's to late 1980's. In terms of not just murder and shootings, but overall crime and gangs. I lived in the north side of Chicago all of my life and even the north side had lots of pockets that were terrible and gang infested. Then in the early 1990's something interesting happened to Chicago- gentrification. Also the housing projects were torn down. That trend of having wealthy, educated, white urban professionals has changed the face of Chicago. We now have wealthy people moving in to the city of Chicago at a faster rate and the poor are being forced out. New condos, townhouses and single family houses are built all over the city's north side. Real estate prices have gone back up to the peak levels of 2006 and some have even gone past that. So all of these people are stupid right? Of course not. Urban renewal is a nationwide trend. In all major cities, young people want to move in to the downtown core and surrounding areas. A lot of young people from the Midwest want to move to Chicago. In trendy neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, etc. you will notice a lot of young people are from Ohio, Wisconsin, or some bland boring suburb like Naperville. Chicago is the destination of choice for many young dynamic professionals.

Chicago's violent crime problem is only significant in a handful of police districts and areas. Mostly the south and west sides. Even the south and west sides have seen significant decreases in crime compared to the 1970's to early 1990's. Too many police officers are negative.

Too many police on here only know what they know from the ghetto district they work in and then go hide in their houses in one of the police neighborhoods.

This is a big city. A lot more going on in it besides shootings.

You guys should live a little. You're wife would be happy. Maybe even reward your boring ass.
