- Officials in the nation's largest police department said Friday they uncovered dozens of instances of crimes misreported and wrongly downgraded by officers at a precinct after an anonymous tip to internal affairs and now 19 officers face departmental charges.
The 19 New York Police Department employees — one lieutenant, eight sergeants, nine officers and one detective — worked at the 40th Precinct in the Bronx and face charges of misreporting during a four-month period last year. They face a loss of vacation days or possible dismissal from the department if they are found guilty.
Commissioner William Bratton, who took over the 35,000-officer department last year, has made it a priority to ensure crime complaints are accurately reported.

The the FBI still won't accept Chicago's numbers, Chicago Magazine did a three-part story on how CPD misclassifies crime, those New York professors, including the one who is a retired NYPD Captain who exposed CompStat....no one has noticed these shenanigans over the years?

Wasn't Garry involved with an incident there a few years ago where NYPD Adrian Schoolcraft was forcibly taken from his home and sent to a mental hospital because he tried to expose COMSTAT? As I recall the officer recorded the home invasion.
What ever happened to that?

NO question McAsshole is doing all he can to manipulate crime stats. I work as a hotel concierge downtown for past 11 years and as one would expect in a big city occasionally a visiting tourist ends up being separated (robbed, pick pocket, snatched etc) from their wallet and id's. When ever this happens I and my team always assist the guest and help them contact the CPD via telephone to file a police report - which they will need if they arm,e fly back and have no other valid pic ID. My first five or six years I would give them a local phone line and tell the to dial 311 and ask to speak with officer to file a report and then request report is faxed to hotel. No problem with getting reports until about 4 years ago and then and this continues to this day - the cops on the phone now will strongly discourage to outright refuse to file the report over the phone. Some times they shamee the guest telling them that they can not file a report if "they lost their stuff". other times they claim fax is broken and a third tactic is to tell guest they have to personally come down to the district station to fill out a report and they have to go to district station where crime occurred. That is often enough of a hassle that the guest gets frustrated and gives up on reporting. So disgusting and shameful!!!!
Wow, a loss of vacation days? Already have that here in Chicago as Our Fraternal Organization decided it was a good idea to make sure no one should be allowed to use all 25 working days. Now we have to fight with the district watch secretary and kaptain to use the unused vacation "hours" by the end of the year.
So for reports they want you to use 311 or callback as it's known. How can stripped PO's do reports?
Hell, it started from day one at the academy, when they insisted in report writing class that every burglary was really "theft from building!"

I am interested citizen and while browsing at CPD website, I came across most recent Compstat reports. What struck me was the lack of consistency and outright mathematical errors in the calculation of percentage changes.
How can 2 murders this week compared to 0 last year be a change of 0% ? Why are some percentages calculated correctly and others not? Either someone is purposely fudging so that above example does not show a 200% increase in murders or someone has no clue how to calculate percentage change either with or without use of an Excel spreadsheet.
The female lt. Donna wants stripped officers to answer 911 calls. Which is unfair and unjust. Fop was notified of this and they would not help. She is a asshole.
