Again With the Detective UUWs
Didn't they try this a few years ago? Didn't everyone agree it was a complete waste of time?
- Heard they want the Det's to follow up on UUW's again. The last time was a pilot program in the busy districts. ATF was supposed to be involved to try to break up or charge the straw buyers but bailed immediately when they realized they didn't have the time/manpower to come out for the amount of guns brought in. The shit heads won't talk, a complete waste of everybody's time. Glad when it was cancelled.
What, having the Detective involved makes it a stronger case? It is what it is
All we remember is that it took the Detectives away from solving their regular caseload and contributed nothing to the conviction/sentencing debacle that continues to make Cook County "justice" a joke.

To preface...the area detective bureaus have multiple aggravated battery teams, 6-8 detectives and a sgt. They are supposed to handle all shootings. However, this new edict requires burglary robbery theft detectives to handle the uuw's? Reasonable leadership ought to recognize the fact that agg. batt. teams might already be cognizant of why an off. might have this gun, in that area. Or better yet, might this uuw arrest lead to information relative to one of the agg. batt. teams already assigned investigations? Or even that the multiple detectives assigned to the agg. batt. teams might be a little more knowledgeable about shootings than a burglary/robbery/theft detective?
Weak idea...weakly implemented.
No this time its better, the CAGE Teams are now involved. Most of them couldnt find a gun when they were the police, now they are experts.
What else is a joke?

Chasing after guns on the street is treating the symptom and not the cause. It's easy to replace a confiscated gun with another one just look at the stats.
Garry and Rahm like to tout the number of guns taken off the streets and put out propaganda via the lapdog media that this is a metric showing how much safer they are making us.
However isn't the reality of the situation that if a gun is taken from a gang banger that said gang banger will either be shot of beaten, punished by the gang with a violation for losing the gun? Ending up in the E/R at the taxpayers expense and hopefully no innocent bystander becomes the collateral damage.
Granted it's a gang banger getting shot. But then again sometimes they miss and a seven year old or somthing takes the fall.
IMO the real issue is not the guns on the street. The real problem is why people see turning to guns and violence as the only way out to a better life.
The so-called brilliant minds of the Ivy league grands are unwilling or unable to figure it out? So they set up this false metric of accomplishment.

Running and grabbing there side does not call for police to shot at him, there is no fear of great bodily harm. This is getting out of hand.

THANKS RAHM....what did you think was going to happen. The small business owner is passing his loss onto the customers. So the owner has to pay his illegal immigrant workers, oppss, I'm sorry, undocumented employees $10.00hr. Wait until it goes up again!!!! Small businesses will be fleeing Chicago. I guess it's back to Brothers carwash in Evergreen Park.

Every time his name appears in the tri, I not only fire off a letter to the editor but also to the reporters email at the end of the story. Surprisingly, many reporters email back and say that they share my sentiments but, like being on the CPD, you get assignments that you would rather not have to do.

In the 70s you call the area robbery unit when you made a gun pinch. The dicks responded and drew up the complaints and checked to see if stupid was wanted for a robbery warrant. If that happened they took over the pinch by bringing him into the area. And that was the last that you saw of the arrest they cleared a bunch of robberies exceptionally and got all of credit.
There was no felony review in those days either. A political dope ex FBI guy named Bernard Carey told old man Daley that he can kill all kinds of crime if he could oversee who got charged with a felony and who walked with a misdemeanor so that was the start of felony review.
Prior to that you would call the dicks who would come out and draw up felony complaints and reducers ( misdemeanors) and of course felony 101s. Everyone was charged with a felony and resisting arrest cause there was no watch commander involvement for the charge everyone resisted arrest in those days.
Detectives used to have to go to districts to 'de-brief' those arrested for UUW. Very little information was learned, a one page form would be submitted. Like the Hilliard memo requiring Detectives to attend autopsies, the directive was rescinded when over time hours mounted. There was also a disagreement among the brass as to whether the de-briefing forms would become part of the case file, which resulted in detectives being subpoenaed to answer questions about the interviews which provided no substantive info.
Once again the RBT dics get hammered. Try handling UUWs in 015, 011, 007, 025 etc. on top of 10 cases a week at least. Just another day in the world's most poorly run dept by the most inept managerial group in the dept's history who concoct hair brained schemes while they stare at their diplomas. Sorry. Will never seek felony charges on anyone. Released without charges. Let the streets handle the justice. Tired of the nonsense. Oh yea. Cover up those tats boys and girls. Until the late 70'a Robbery Unit Detectives responded to all UUW arrests, of course at that time Detectives from the various units responded to all arrests except those for City Ordinances. Robbery Unit Detectives responded UUW (gun) arrests simply because guns were commonly used in robberies. I can personally attest to clearing several robberies based on information obtained from a UUW (gun) arrest, it happened regularly, but required some effort. Also, of course back then, there were a lot more Detectives in 6 areas, with each area having Detective units.
The problem is that way too many crimes are felonies. Instead they should rewrite the misdemeanor laws. For instance, make a conviction for Agg UUW probation only for the first offense and 60 days in CCJ for a second offense. Not a conviction, but an arrest. So if you're only arrested once you can get probation. Get caught a second time with a gun and the plea or conviction will get you 60 days. Crime has to have negative consequences (yeah, I know CCJ for some of the assholes is actually a vacation but nothing is perfect.)

The bosses downtown want results and PICKED me cause I am a worker. My uncle Tom Byrne said I should clean up area North of non workers. You people there better get you shoes moving, cause Missy is a worker and expects giving the city more work for the buck.
