Blago to be Freed?

  • An appeals court vacated five convictions and threw out the sentence of former Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Tuesday afternoon. The rest of Blagojevich's convictions were affirmed by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.

  • If Blagojevich chooses to appeal, he must tell the court within the next two weeks. But with five counts thrown out, the former governor will at some point be re-sentenced, and his attorneys will argue that his 14 years be dramatically reduced.
Remember, this is a case in which no money changed hands, yet Blago got far more than other's who have exchanged tens-of-thousands in bribe money - it's just that their tens-of-thousands didn't lead to the president-elect at the time.

"Blago the Loose Cannon" doesn't seem very likely, but maybe after the 2016 election.

Judge Zagel has made it clear he has no love or sympathy for Blagojevich. If the decision is to not appeal and to throw himself on Zagel's mercy, Blago's not going to like the outcome.

I really wish he would have named names. And how is it that Public Official A was never charged with this case?! How much money did he spend and he only got 2.5 yrs? Not a Blago fan at all, by the way.

The rumor was that the feebs very quickly took down the wire when
"Himself" got tangled in it.

Fitzgerald had to hurry up and put on a Soviet-style show trial
for Blago to keep him from spilling what he REALLY knew to
the media.

Every living ass affiliated with the Chicago Political Apparatus
that was in and out of the White House from January 2008 until
now, knew what the fuck was going on.

Including the former chief-of-staff ( who got tossed on his narrow ass
because he openly and flagrantly shit-talked the First Lady
and POTUS BFF V. Jarrett) and current lying weasel of a mayor.

Blago got dirty-dicked.
Plain and simple.

Our prayer is that they turn on each other and it gets ugly.

Yes, I remember it very well the only reason the investigation "tapes" stopped was that Rahm (chief of staff) for the worst President ever name was starting to come up in the "talks". Maybe someone can do the right think and commute blago's sentence. And make things right.

Never really cared (or voted) for him, but always thought Blago got more than he deserved. Always thought JJ Jr. should have gotten a lot more time.

Blago will wind up as some commentator on WLS-AM or some political TV commentator.

The opinion actually found the evidence overwhelming against him on the 13 counts affirmed, the others were reversed for retrial on an instruction issue. But the minimum on the seven remaining counts was 360 months to life by law. Judge Zagel leaned over backwards to reduce the sentence as he was able. Even if the prosecutors decide to drop the affected charges, the sentence won't go much lower because it can't, which means he want be returning from Colorado anytime soon.

Very little reporting on a key point in this Appeal: A judge involved in the Appeal read a book on President Eisenhower. In the book the antidote of when Ike told the former Attorney Gen. of Calif., if he would deliver Calif. for Ike, he would get a Seat on the Supreme Court. Ike carried Calif. and that former Atty. Gen. of Calif. became the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Ct., Earl Warren. So when Blago's Appeal went to the judge who read that story, he asked the Feds, how was what Blago did different from what Ike did? The Feds had no answer, and that caused this reversal. Add to that the fact that "Triple J" is out of prison, after stealing $750,000.00 and it becomes clear that Blago got a raw deal. But he will stay in prison until pardoned by Obama when he leaves Office. Too many people forget that T.V. ad where Obama asks "folks" to vote Blago a second term. They used to be buddies, they even had the same fund raiser, Tony Rezko. I wonder what he could tell. "G"

In a way, I find Blago sympathetic simply because he got "caught" doing what everyone else does. He wasn't a good lawyer/congressman/governor. He was an Illinois politician, who I find the most reprehensible of creatures.

Horse trading happens at all levels - and he was right, a Senator seat is a valuable fucking thing. And when you have the power to do someone higher up in the foodchain a serious favor, then you expect something in return. I mean, Earl Warren was governor of California and told Eisenhower that if he delivered California in 1952 for him, that Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is what he wanted in return. And he got it. That's how it works. And if I was Governor and I had a Senate seat available for appointment, you're goddamn right I want something in return like a cabinet position or an ambassador to somewhere awesome. Or, if I was looking at reelection, I'd want you, Mr. President, to show up at a few fundraisers because you can help me raise a lot more money. No money changes hands.

But Blago had less panache than most, and got prosecuted and everyone got to feel good about themselves for cleaning up corruption. Remember that Pat Fitzgerald clown that the media masturbated over for "cleaning up the state?" He did as much good as you busting one single pothead for an ounce of reefer in terms of "cleaning up."

Blago is a perfect example of a pawn gone a stray from the powers that were (Daley, Madigan, Mell and Cullerton). He didn't play their game and they buried him.

he deserves time, but as his lawyer pointed out--every politician that ever held office did the same thing. Earl Warren became Chief Justice after promising and delivering California for Eisenhower

Blago tried to make a mockery of his trial, he couldn't get it into his head that he was in Federal Court and not in some state level court, he had Bullshit lawyers in the 1st trial and then brought in the clown Sam Adams Jr. who thinks that yelling and being Dude in Federal Court would influence a jury, Blago is an Egomaniac who loves to talk, and he did, right into jail, where he now keeps talking by teaching classes, he has a mental illness and yes he didn't take any money but he sure was inferring that is what he wanted, he does deserve a reduced sentence. He drew the battle lines with judge Zagel.

I Feel All The Above Comments Are Valid. I Feel Blago Will Be Set Free When Obama Leaves Office. I Believe He Will Then Become A Chicago Area Radio Show Host. Something Akin To A "Mancow". He Will There Blast Politics, and Whatever creates an audience. When that plays out for him. He will probably earn a living hanging out on Michigan Ave., Posing for Photos with would be takers. "Have Your Photo Taken With Ron" Something Like His Hero Impersonators Due In Las Vegas. "Have Your Photo Taken With Elvis"
"With All Our Rage, We Our Still, Just Rats In A Cage"

If I am not mistaken, both of Blago's parents died ar a rekatively young age. He may not even live long enough to make it out of the Pen alive. What he was given may be essentialy a life sentence. A very sad story indeed.

Obama will not only save him it is strongly rumored that BHO is preparing to free hundreds if not thousands of "non-violent drug offenders" back into society.

Few of these "non-violent drug offenders" were model productive members of society. They were burglars, thieves, car-jackers and so on.

We are going to be very busy.

A big mistake most populist politicians make is when they start believing their own bullshit. Blago's big mistake really started when he told Mell to fuck off when Mell tried to help his cousin with the landfill near Joliet. Mell got on TV and started talking like he was the rejected "trophy wife" with regards to who Blago took guidance from, ( the guy who wolfed down all the rat poison when the Feds got on his case about his contracts at O'Hare and how he paid off his gambling debts). But the other posters here are right. JJ jr. never got indicted for trying to buy the seat which was bullshit, especially now that he's out and contemplating a "forgiveness" comeback. And according to Fox News, Obama is planning on commuting the sentence of a high level drug dealer while Blago sits.

Hopefully, Rod will have a huge book to publish when he gets out, naming names, dates, places, dollar amounts and conversations. And also include transcripts Judge Zagel forbade him from introducing in court.

Why is it sad that Blago is in jail where he belongs. The only sad thing is that he doesn't have more company. We all know that Blago got what he deserved. He became a political liability and his cronies cut him loose. Why is this a problem for you?

It isn't sad that he went to jail. What's wrong with this picture is the length of the sentence in comparison to other convictions, most especially that of JJ Jr.
