Fit to Stand Trial
- A Cook County jury deliberated a little more than an hour Thursday before deciding that a man charged with killing off-duty Chicago police Officer Thomas Wortham IV was mentally fit to stand trial despite his alleged amnesia.
The decision came after an unusual three-day hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. Attorneys for Marcus Floyd had asked that a jury decide an issue usually reserved for a judge.
Judge Timothy Joyce set Floyd's trial for Oct. 13.
Floyd, who was severely wounded in a shootout with Wortham and the officer's father, suffered "retrograde amnesia" when his brain was deprived of oxygen after losing massive amounts of blood, his attorneys contended. He also suffered two heart attacks and spent a week in a coma.
Too bad we can't enforce a "retrograde abortion" on this waste of protoplasm.

WAAAHHH!!! He knew right from wrong when he started the crime. I do not care if he is a drooling moron after they shot up his criminal butt, he knew right from wrong when he started, and he needs to do the time. Too bad the death penalty is off the table.
He lucky to be alive. Has he already paid his debt to society?
He'll only serve a dozen years in prison. That's the Cook County way.
Too bad those heart attacks weren't fatal.
Not taking anything away from the old man, but he did not shoot anyone in this incident. He did fire his gun after they were fleeing the scene. This was a tragedy, but let's get the facts right.

So who shot the killers? The younger Wortham? The newspapers reported that dad got one of them. No surprise that the papers get it wrong.

These thug animals are all following the same playbook! Recently visited cook county jail so much empty space, tiers empty no more sleeping on the floor taj mahal setting. Toni wants as many "black and brown" freed as possible, wow do you think this why we have so many recently let go repeat offenders with zero fear of going back? The thugs get the advice from the corrupt crook county system, and the same "Crazy" act is tried numerous times but to no avail! Was in court branch 25 on a case when the lady who attempted to board a plane at the airports was there on a second time the judge was considering putting her in jail for 1 year! Old white lady who obviously had some serious mental deficiency but the thugs get probation and are let go! Geez how does that work?

Sgt. Wortham's testimony was the most singularly compelling thing I have ever heard in a courtroom. What pitiful comments...you should be ashamed of yourself for anonymously denigrating his efforts. As for referring to him as "the old man", I believe he could wipe the floor with you. Show some respect and maybe one day, far into the future, you may earn some yourself. And thank you yet again to Judge Joyce.
