IPRA Supervisor Sues CPD
- A supervisor with the agency that investigates allegations of misconduct against Chicago police officers has filed a lawsuit claiming he was falsely arrested and mistreated when police charged him with driving under the influence and other traffic violations on New Year's Day.
George Roberts, 51, a supervising investigator with the Independent Police Review Authority — which investigates officer misconduct allegations and police-involved shootings — was arrested early Jan. 1 in the 1500 block of East 85th Place, a block from where he lives. Roberts was found not guilty June 25 of DUI, and had another citation dropped, but was given supervision for two traffic violations, according to court records.
Roberts filed a lawsuit in federal court last week claiming false arrest, excessive force and violation of his constitutional rights.
He then spins a yarn worthy of the OPS/IPRA Hall of Fame...if there is such a place. Cameras disabled, rough handling, too tight handcuffs, a laughing white shirt....the works! It was a gripping tale of suspense and horror. We certainly expect an Oscar nomination early next year.

Fuck it. Everyone who is found not guilty of any crime in court should sue. Better yet, when they're found not guilty, the city will just pay them off at that time.

This is a perfect example as to why I don't do DUI's arrests anymore! Most everything in Traffic Court gets thrown out today and now shitbag wants to sue you! The courts do not back us up and the ASA's are incompetent buffoons! So forget putting your career or your life on the line for a lousy not guilty!
I have always loved the complaints of " handcuffs too tight" WTF its not jewelry its handcuffs they are supposed to be uncomfortable, you're under arrest not going to a fashion show.
It is too bad the coppers DUI arrested this clown! It would have been a lot better for all, had this clown rapped his car around a light pole on the driver side doing 60 mph instead! This is an example as to why I gave up doing DUI arrests! The judges in Traffic Court hate the police, because of their left leaning puke political views! Judges don't follow the law and cater to these assholes because of votes!
I rarely call 311 - the City of Chicago website is my choice to report graffiti.
All city worker houses should be geo-located. Ie. this is a police, fire, library, streets and sanation, ipra, etc.

Has anyone looked into possible collusion between ivestigators at IPRA and trial lawyers and the law firms that often sue the city for allegations of false arrest or brutality. I'm sure these bottom feeders would never attempt to forge a relationship based on the possibility of enrichment at the city's expense right? How easy, IPRA concludes misconduct on a case and boom...lawsuit. how coincidental.

Privatize judges! Hire a bunch of fresh new attorneys for traffic court and misdemeanor court. No pension, pay them by the hour you will see trial soar through the heavens.

Actually fighting a DUI in traffic court is getting harder and harder. If you made an arrest for DUI recently you would see it first hand.

How right you are. I swear I would get up on the stand and testify for 45 minutes only to have the judge toss the case. 0.20 BAC cases, legit arrest, the whole 9 yards. I wanted to testify in Pig Latin just to see if the judge was listening. I swear they don't listen to a fucking word you say up there when you are on the stand and they all toss the DUI cases. Well they lost me in the game.

Reminds me of a incident over 15 years ago in 017. OPS guy drunk slams into a paked car then tries to give the owner Pablo 20 to forget it!
Police get called foot chase, ops guy gets caught trying to climb into his apartment window. Then try's to offer CPD USC to forget the incident. Do you think he got charged with anything other than DUI nope. Gut less white shirts just went with the accident DUI .
But it was intresting to see the two boxes of case files brought in from ops guys car! Yes they were inventoried every single one ;-) !
I grabbed one guy cause his car matched description of a shooters car fleeing a nearby scene. This shitbird was some commodities trader or something like that and he had cash. He refused but a lifetime of drinking told me a .20 at least. He had two open bottles of champaign and a full glass hidden under the seat.
I tried the old "take a taxi" thing but this prick was suburban rich and no cop was going to tell him he was drunk so I had to pinch him. He hired a heavy hitter, ex-prosecutor DUI/criminal guy "I forget his name".
Well he looked at my probable cause, looked at me, and guessed right Im not a guy who likes TC. So he strung this thing out for months. And you know each time his client showed up either drunk or hungover. The last time I let them bust it down to reckless driving, the guy was so drunk in front of the judge he was swaying, "this is at 0900 am". I figured if the judge didnt give a shit then I didnt and I was sick of going down there for this JagBag.
