Second Bloodiest Weekend

We knew the number was high, but we didn't realize it was "Second Bloodiest Weekend" high:
  • The number of people shot in Chicago this weekend is sobering.

Eight people were killed and 45 others were wounded, which makes it the second most violent weekend in Chicago this year.

A surprising number of the shootings took place in the Kenwood and Hyde Park area, which are neighborhoods not far from the University of Chicago and President Obama's house.
Why does the media always call that "surprising?" The University of Chicago has had it's own police force for years because, quite frankly, the neighborhood aside from the university, is a shithole. Kenwood is an oasis of calm in a maelstrom of crap. We certainly aren't surprised by the tendency toward violence in the area. You'd think veteran reporters wouldn't be either, if they actually got out into the hood.

And remember, Rahm is going to have to lay off police officers in the midst of this violence.

I wonder if someone prominent or important like an elected official lived in Hyde Park if all this crime would occur?

Me not working for CPD no more, I kinda enjoy watching this go down... I talked about this years ago... and no one believed me. That whole pension business and the thought of my 2 kids go to a CPS was the reason why I left for another LEO job.

I don't know about the shootings, but outside the 44th and Greenview homicide Hyde Park and Kenwood were quiet--at least in terms of deaths.

http://homicides.suntimes.com/

Are the reporters counting the mayhem at 57th and Lasalle as "near" Hyde Park?

Is a homicide in Woodlawn or South Shore "near" Hyde Park.

Looking only at homicide numbers since 2006 or so Hyde Park and Kenwood have relatively few. Now the neighboring areas have a huge number.

I can't directly speak for how good the U of Chicago PD is now, but in the 80's I was happy to have them around. At that time mostly retired or off duty CPD. I do know their operating boundaries have expanded in recent decades. I suspect that's helped reduce the relatively low crimes areas in or near Hyde Park.

Also 'disappearing' the projects has undoubtedly helped. Although, I suspect the folks in Chatham and the south suburbs aren't thrilled with the influx of battle hardened ghetto idiots.

Like hell it is. I just bought my first fifth of Sauza Gold in ages, sat here and drank half of it while I laughed/cried/hated those responsible, and realized that tomorrow, next month, next year would be no different...except for those who manage to pull the ripcord on their Golden Parachutes and float down with millions in USC swirling around them..

Unfortunately a liberal state rep has a bill pending to severely limit private university police agencies ability to police. The bill includes the ability to FOI private university police agencies records. Maybe U of C, Northwestern, Loyola... will also drasticly reduce their policing in areas they cover. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Be careful what you wish for liberals because you may end up being the next victim of these predators in our midst.

I live ten feet from the U of C campus, in Woodlawn. My block is a shooting gallery and it's directly related to Cullen Davis, a manchild who has too much clout and too much of our tax money yet does nothing to control the gangs that rule his section 8 buildings. It's Cabrini all over again and not even the U of C, the aldercreature, or any elected official I've talked to, or even HUD, seems to take it seriously.

The neighborhood IS the university.

Look up the old photos of Richard J. Daley standing side-by-side with Julian Levi (UC prez) "clearing urban blight." "Blight" was a double-parked car, or a coal delivery five minutes before the janitor swept the sidewalk spotless. "Blight" was a couple of kids playing on the front stairs.

It was called "urban renewal." I grew up in the cloud of dust the vast demolitions created. Turn the corner, everyone and everything you knew from yesterday was gone.

As is popular in some circles today, trumpet about "driving out the poor."

Their geo-location software will shortly spit out some "neighborhood" "community" name you never heard of in all your life -- "South Upper Lakefront Meadows" or some s__t like that. All that they have to do is cut and paste, and there's another story.

Doesn't matter, because the whole thing is probably paywalled in the first place.

Joe Biden was asked to comment on the exponential rate of homicidal murders occurring near the president's residence in the winners of life's lottery community of Hyde Park. Biden replied "The solution is safer guns and safer bullets." He then conceded he got this novel idea to mediate this third world violence from Impeached President Clinton's Surgeon General Colonel Sanders.

Eight people were killed and 45 others were wounded???

So how many Detective would you assume work on each murder? Lets go with 2.

If the bad guy is not in custody how many hours do you think the department will let those detectives work the day afterward? Now do you think those same Detectives will not have another shooting or homicide the next Day?

Now the fun logic if you have 45 citizen shot on the weekend what is the weeks total?
Does the media actually think that 90 detectives went to 45 shooting in 3 day and actually solved those cases in an 8 hour shift.

Remember when patrol was doing canvassing for murder?

My favorite line in a report the owner of the store is unable to retrieve the video surveillance (right i own a private business and the city does not pay for my video.)
Scene contaminated because victim walked in house?

Rahm getting another 10$ out of each home owner now for trash! Go out and solve all those crimes now.

I have a serious question on behalf of those who were victim's of the auto crash after the murder shooting in the 002nd District. If the police weren't involved in the chase, who will be civilly liable for causing the driver to depress the gas pedal to accelerate out of control and cause the vehicle crash without a pursuit? What legal mumbo jumbo would put the city on the hook for multi million dollar payouts?

I was thinking some legal angle to justify the criminal driving behavior in the absence of a police pursuit. Accepted liability themes or schemes in Cook County include made up profiling, lack of diversity training by police, cultural unawareness by police, fear of chokeholds by police, anticipated civil rights violations by police while in the commission of felonies investigated by our friends at the holier than thou U.S. Justice Department with an accompanying taxpayer payout and fear of the police putting that time tested tired old defense of the fear of the police putting the stolen car and drugs and guns on me. We laugh at these legal schemes. This b.s. have been drilled into the public's mind where they begin to believe this nonsense through conditioning. The public routinely blames the police diverting attention and bypassing common sense reasoning from the obvious criminal behavior by wanton and willful criminal thugs creating mayhem in our city. The criminal justice system is not about what is right and what is wrong but rather how much of a cash money payout can be made after the commission of a crime never letting a opportunity to go to waste advancement of a radical political agenda. Wake up America!

I respond.

I am for responsible "gun control" - i.e., stopping and frisking known gang members and gang wanna bees. Carrying an illegal concealed hand gun without any concealed carry license - that is technically against the Chicago laws, same as illegal immigration is against the law.

Just enforce the law.

That's effective gun control.

Just do what the NYPD under Guliani, Bratton and NYPD chief Kelly did - stop and search, enforce the laws.

Liberals should support enforcing sane gun control laws. So should responsible gun rights advocates who went through the time and expense to get a CCL

The white "emergency call" boxes went up all over around there in the '60s, around the same time you started seeing forks and pyramids and P Stone s__t smeared on things. Boxes still there? Been ages since I was back.

They also started running shuttle vans to whisk students around. Employees took their chances waiting for the bus while these went by in the cold and dark, with lots of room in there.
