Been retired since January,...Have yet to receive a star. Personnel keeps telling me it's ordered. Anyone else have this problem...?
I thought I remember getting a type-3 through LEADS about an ISP guy misplacing his credentials at a conference in Itasca. Sadly that is all I can remember about it. Maybe a fellow commenters can locate a copy of the message. Unless CPD credentials were specifically recovered in which case...22 it.
Itaska just host of the pension conference. I doubt that helps.
Hey got any grapes?
What's the star number, wouldn't that be the way to find the retiree.
I've actually never seen one. Quick question do they have numbers? Also how much time do you have to put in to get one? Do you have to pay for it and what are ur concealed carry rights with one? Ty to any who takes the time to answer.
Why would anybody carry one of those? When I retire I'll sell mine on E-bay, just like that old style on encased in plastic I was given. (got $250 for it)
There was a anfm sent on a lost retired star a couple days ago
hey ssc be nice to Itasca pd those are some people out there
Retired guy probably pitched it as far as he could after the Shitty fucked him over one more time on his health insurance coverage. Finder could probably keep it.
I never carry mine. I think the I D is more important. Too bulky anyway.
Sent you an email. Fingers are crossed.
Is it one of the old ones or one of the new ones?

Yeah, we're not here to embarrass the officer.

Not the correct number
Well if u know someone on the job they can run the star number history
Sounds like a stand up old school copper in Itasca. We have to look out for one another, sure as shit the citizens or politicians don't care. Thanks ♠️

Yeah...I agree about not posting the number. If it's yours or someone you know email SCC. Period.
Went fishing with my buddies on the Wisconsin River several years ago, parked the truck, grabbed all our tackle and beer out of the back, carrying our rods and hiked through the woods towards our spot. A good country mile. Summertime, all three of us were wearing shorts and bug spray. We hit the shoreline and I felt something was "off" below my waist.
You old timers know that feeling after years of leaving the house armed. That 'I'm missing something feeling'. First, check waistband, got it- s&w airweight 5 shot snub nose I carried back then, then checked my pocket. My heart sank, my star was gone. I was wearing these bullshit shorts, 1970's slippery material, I don't know lycra? I'm not that old. The star slipped right out the pocket. I wasn't wearing a belt to clip the star on, they were drawstring shorts. I told myself, put it in your tackle box before I left.... no, I'll be fine, I'll put in my box when I get down there. Stupid.
"Guys, I have to walk back!" Why? huh? You're crazy, screw that I'm not walking all the way back, I'm here and grabbing a beer. OK, I'll remember that at the pump when I never charge you guys gas money. Reluctantly, we trekked back and halfway through my one friend found it laying in a pile of pine needles and some leaves. It was camouflaged better than a female pheasant in the grass. I don't know how he saw it.
Caught some decent walleye that night.
Illinois homicide investigator's conference was also in itasca last week, but retirees would have no reason to be there
Contact the Illinois Homicide Investigators Association. There was a conference in Itasca early last week. They'll be able to return it.

No star number on retired star. Just said retired

Umm I don't think my mind has gone yet, but my retiree star does not have any #'s on it.It says "Retired" where the #'s would be.

I had the option years ago to order one of the old stars encased in plastic. When I retired the City gave me one of the new stars in the new style star case. Few non-police will recognize it as a retired star at a glance.

It didn't take me that long. I had mine in about 4 weeks. The City was fairly quick on that one, considering it was the City, it was lightening quick. The lady doing the retired ID's made it in front of me and handed it to me. Very nice lady, Mexican civilian. The whole thing went easily.
Anyone out there remember the story about Sgt. Levy's lost handcuffs found on a slain westside alderman?

The new ones have the star number you retired with. You can carry if you pass the qualifying course of fire. Stevie Wonder could pass the course.
Retired 3 yrs ago as a Sgt. My retirement star does have the rank and my last star number on it. Don't know about previous years stars.

So, no one ever told either of you that you could order a retired star with your number on it, by filling out a form and writing a small check? Or, were you just not paying attention?

No reason to be there at all, unless some retired officer was teaching a seminar, meeting an old partner for lunch, or maybe was one of the organizers.
My husband retired in 2010 and just got the letter last month that his star was in!

Was Sgt Levy part of the North Lawndale political party protecting its turf?

I got a call from a detective in the old A2 about a pair of handcuffs with my star number engraved on them found attached to a south side democrat hooked up to a chain link fence in 004th District. He had the absolute snot beat out of him. Fortunately I really knew nothing about it. A previous owner of my star number prior to 1985 no doubt.

Without the police power the star means nothing to me.
7:28am.....u sir are a broke moron.
Love the comment "Anybody got any grapes" HaHaaaaaa. Think about it!

You are a "new breed" asshole. When dealing with a polite respectful retiree, take your officious "police power" and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

You must have never ventured outside this shithole city. Try it sometime. If your mama will let ya
Not sure what to make of the retired stars. I retired as a detective about 8 years ago and received my retired star. Just looked at it. It does say retired but below that gives a 5 number star number with first 3 numbers 206 plus 2 additional numbers. That is and never was my star number. Could they just be using a generic star number
I can't believe HR has 12,000 retired stars waiting for someone to retire or orders 20 or 30 a month
I do remember getting the star when I went to personnel signed my retirement papers and turned in my equipment

if i'm wrong, well then i'm wrong, but when i left, i was offered the new or old style star.i opted for the old style.never was asked anything about #'s.kind of shitty to just throw the real one into a cardboard box too.i'm not looking for velvet and lace and trumpets blaring but that sucked....fitting end i suppose.
hope you all make it to that moment though.

Yes, I recall the story. I read the original homicide file at Maxwell Street in 1971. Did some follow-up work on the case. It was not a Levy at all. I did know the sergeant but I do not want to repeat his name in this venue. He worked at Fillmore, but I knew him from Prairie ave station.
Haven't received mine yet either and its been 8 months!
Don't diss the 'Ville.
