Honorary Street Sign

From our e-mail:
  • Thanks to the effort of Ald Napolitiano, Chris Vittorio, the rest if the 41st Ward staff and Jimmy Kehoe(Retired CPD Sgt) Oxford Ave from Devon to Avondale will receive the name of Honorary Patrolman Joseph Cali Way. Joe, a terrific Officer and survivor of the US Army Vietnam came home joined the CPD and was murdered by some lowlife Police killer in the projects on Lake Street in the 013th District. Jimmy was Joe's partner on May 17, 1975 when he was struck down by a sniper from the projects. It turns out this Police killer John Brown, had just robbed a store at 2001 W Lake St with a 22 caliber rifle. Upon returning to the Henry Horner Homes, Brown bragged to his friends that he would kill a Police Officer with his rifle. A massive manhunt began, at which time project people attacked the assembled Officers with bricks and bottles. This murderer was subsequently arrested and received only 20-25 years for this heroes murder. Brown served half the sentence and was paroled in 1986. Please attend this dedication on Nov 14, 1100 hrs on the NW corner of Devon and Oxford. Former CPD Phil Cline will be present. In addition please pass this information along. We must honor this hero.
Lots of police and police families up that way. Hope to see a good turnout.

End of Watch: 20-May-1975

Incident Details: Police Officer Joseph Cali, 31, was a 2-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 013 District.

On May 19, 1975, Officer Cali was issuing a parking ticket in front of the Henry Horner Homes on the 2100 block of West Lake Street. RIP my brother. Sleep in peace and thank you.
Chanel 5 reporters. You do not protect and serve. You fan the flames and put all police officers in harms way. How dare you. Shame on you and nbc for allowing this. Simply appalling.

Something wrong with a society that allows cop killers to get out of prison.

RIP brother! The thug gets out in less than half the time on a short sentence for murdering a police officer! Ridiculous as always, crook was as corrupt then as it is now with judges that have no clue what they are doing! Until the honest citizens stand up this will continue, extremely bad government! No wonder they are so upset about a Trump presidency, he will audit finances and see all the theft and graft and march the people who skirt the laws elected crew also straight to prison!!

Someone get a memo to Finance in advance to request they keep out of the area during the event.

Tony or Chris have the appropriate email address for the request.

Regards,

GoB from Finance.

Only took them 40 years? This is a well intentioned meaningless gesture that Napolitano will throw in your faces when he does something you find unfavorable. Have we become such simpletons that we're bought out for an honorary sign?

Ditto from a troll 10:49. It is appalling to me that even a cop killer did the Cook County jig; sentenced to long time and out in short time. Of course James Clark was a juvenile at the time from a local project crime family. But he is further proof of the problem, the wrong people have guns and those who engage in crime with them do not do serious time so punishment if thats what you call it is no deterent. Joe seemed like a good guy from a good family. I remember that area in the 70's and 80's doing insurance claims on machine shops and all the other factory buisness we had out Lake Street to Austin Ave. The stretch along Lake from Ashland to Western was one of the bad sections at the time exactly because of the projects. There were tons of people everywhere on the street involved in all kinds of crime, I remember an armored courier walking from the truck into a building at Damen and a cross street couple blocks north of Lake where some asshole just shot him in the head with no warning and ran off with the bag. Peace and prayers to the Cali family. He is not forgotten and you are not either.

It's apparent Ald. Napolitano (former CPD and CFD) was contacted to introduce a City Council resolution on behalf of slain Officer Cali and he readily complied. (Thank You) Now 'some' people here on the blog are criticizing Tony for his efforts. Amazing! Sorry SCC, I once again have to plagiarize your description of such a character... "ASSHAT!"Î

The City of Chicago will be the highest sales tax location in the nation at 10.25%.

And they name a center city park after the enabling spouse of widower scumbag Richard M. Daley.

Even naming a landfill on E. 138th St. would be "overkill" for that shamelessly corrupt motherfucker and his kin.
