They might actually be able to comment intelligently on city policy and why it is compatible with state and federal law. "Last night about 1 am I saw an older lady with a walker making her way down Oakley north of Chicago. I thought about stopping, but didn't. I felt guilty and circled and went back. When I got there I saw a guy get out of an SUV and walk towards her. I pulled out my phone to call 911, but then saw him take off his coat and could see he was a cop in uniform. I put down my window and heard him say, 'Don't worry, I'm a Chicago Police Officer on my way home. I just want to make sure you get home okay, too. Do you live nearby?'
"The lady said she lived a couple of houses down, so the officer stood by until she got in her house okay.
"With all the protests about cops now, I wanted to let people know what I saw a cop do when he didn't know anyone was watching."

NOT TRUE. Believe it or not, all of this was taken into consideration. If you already have any assigned overtime during your thirty days, you will be allowed to work it in an administrative capacity. Being on the medical for 30 days can lead to a lot of alone time, possibly spent in a tavern or in your mother's basement. Coming to work actually has a support feature in it. Not all exempts are idiots.

I mean this in the most sincere fashion possible, Can you do any of that while on the medical and allowed to decompress? The only difference between what you suggested and what is being done is that one is a vacation where you are not allowed to do any of those things and the other is where you work an administrative gig and not allowed to do any of those things.

Overtime is not effected by the 30 day admin duties. You are just in an administrative position while at VRI/CTA/Parks, etc...They will not take away your ability to work overtime, but want to keep officers involved off the street for a little bit. It's not a bad idea in and of itself. You are still full duty, just have a restriction as to no field duties. Remember, as of January 1st, all police involved deaths go to the State's Attorney to see if charges are going to be brought or not. Not a bad thing to be not involved in the typical day to day bullshit when waiting to see if they're going to try and fuck you....
Just food for thought: all audio and video recordings form the shooting on Erie was saved and archived. Once you go to work and park in the parking lot, be very careful of what you say. While at work you have no expectation of privacy. Remember that.

Not really that much of a change. All police shootings were/are reviewed by ASA and the US Attorney. So rather than the City telling the public that they were reviewed all along, that would piss of the public because nothing was done because the they were part of the Code of Silence for the police. Not the fact that there was no criminality in the shooting.
But what needs to be clarified is where is dividing line in a police shooting investigation between your Garrity rights and the line for Miranda Rights?
Also while Department rules require you to talk to the Department regarding a shooting, you have no obligation to talk to the State's Attorney. If they are on the scene they are a law enforcement agency looking for evidence at a possible crime scene. DO NOT TALK TO THEM WITHOUT COUNSEL.
Can we have little police figure signs like the No Gun stickers made? We can have CAPS n CpS hand them out to those who feel the PO PO are only out to kill them and violate their rights...This way the Big Bad Police know they are not needed to respond for anything at those homes...

When my partner and I would hit the streets on midnights, the dispatcher would call our number and say "get out your crayon;got you a couple of jobs" and I would respond, "whatcha got squad"? Then after getting two or three jobs, I'd say, what else ya got" and he would give us some more and then I would ask for another six or more. He would ask "are you kidding" and the answer would be "no". The dispatcher loved us. We'd spend a 2-3 hours going to our jobs, one by one, and come clear with a bunch of 19 P's, H's, B's, E's, etc. We used a whole bunch of B's and E's. By then, the backlog was over. So were we. Never went to work without a pillow;damned hemorrhoids!

Not sure if it was Ervin; however, I can say with certainty it was Dana Starks who had the civilian sister of Black Souls leader Sam McKay-at the time wanted for a murder at 3000 W. Warren Blvd.-working in his front office with sworn personnel and having access to all databases except those restricted to the "D". The story back then was that McKay was being secretly shuttled back and forth to his mothers house at 210 N. Francisco Ave-the house with the soda vending machine in front-by an unknown driver of a reddish imported medium size SUV with a FOP medallion on the back. After weeks of surveillance the car is curbed after leaving 210 N. Fransisco-and after short chase. The vehicle is occupied by the sister and baby daddy a PO assigned to a special unit at 011. The PO exclaims," What this all about? Everywhere I go I'm being stopped by the police!" McKay was ultimately arrested in Washington State. And thats how it works in Chicago.

"Lethal force" isn't in the definition. It is "deadly force", that which may cause death or great bodily harm.
When challenged by an offender that capable of causing death or great bodily harm weather armed or not an officer is able, no required, to return in kind and effect the arrest.
