He actually pens an entire piece without ONCE stating the words "baseball bat," nor the name "LeGrier," nor "assailant." Just an out-and-out smear job.
And this guy makes a living at it somehow, amazingly. In the old days, people like this used to live under bridges, ranting about aliens anal probing them and such...which might explain a lot of what he writes.

Given the constant attacks that the police seem to be the subject of in these pandering, agenda based rags that call themselves "newspapers". Why give the courtesy of allowing those that deliver this nonsense to habitually commit traffic offenses for the sole purpose of getting this biased crap to the public faster? I realize that they are not the ones writing it, but they are a pretty important cog in the machine that does. I'm sure they are very pro-police too, but why wouldn't they be? They get to drive around like they own the streets at the cost of a few free papers. And the message they deliver is one of lies that paint police officers as villainous, racist, malicious murderers who start every tour praying to their god of war to present them the opportunity to shoot a minority.
These papers always like to question the police regarding following policies, procedures, and laws (especially traffic laws with regards to an accident involving the police). Well, shouldn't their drivers have to conform to the traffic laws? They will either have to actually hire more of them (see, you might be doing them a favor), or they will not be able to make their deliveries in time and maybe less of the public read their drivel.

Neil writes from the safe perspective of someone who commutes to and from the Loop while residing in the far North suburbs. He probably has never been to the West Side beyond a trip to the United Center.

In my 12 years mostly spent in urban war zones I have never shot first and asked questions later. I have never discharged my weapon. Like a lot of guys I work with most have never discharged their weapons.
That is the data I would like to see, first an actual number of officers. Second hoe many officers have ever discharged their weapons at an assailant. Third how many officers hit that assailant. And finally how many resulted in a fatality. I bet people would be shocked with how low of number of actual officers who fire their weapons.

Funny, I was always under the impression that a "trained and schooled" journalist's job was to report the facts.

What is "trained and schooled as a journalist"mean?If it means a few letters like BA BS MA MS after your name, there are thousands on this job that have that, along with Academy training, and most importantly-Street Experience.Street Experience that the "schooled journalist" does not have a clue about.In fact, most "schooled journalists" who have gone through the "Shoot don't Shoot" Scenarios nation wide, the same scenarios police recruits go through, those "schooled journalists" failed miserably.

She was able to call 911 on another phone, he said.

Late at night, Steinberg was arrested on a domestic-battery charge for striking his wife—for slapping her because she said she was afraid of him and she started to call 911. Now he wants to tell the police how not to overreact? PLEASE!

Steinberg was not accompanied by a private attorney for the hearing in the Skokie courthouse and planned to use a public defender, Jeanne Bishop, a friend who went to journalism school with him at Northwestern University.
"Since there was a chance, or at least I harbored the chance, that it might be dismissed, I didn't want to spend the 750 bucks" on a private attorney, Steinberg told Cook County Circuit Judge Earl Hoffenberg.
But Hoffenberg told Steinberg that public defenders only represent indigent people who can't afford attorneys and asked Bishop to withdraw from the case, which she did immediately.

Aren't journalists supposed to report facts? Seems to me he is not a journalist, he is a writer of an opinion column. A real journalist is concerned with the who, what, where, when, and how, and doesn't inject an opinion as to why. Sadly, the reason most get into the journalism field now is to shape opinion (Walter Cronkite) and change the world, not report facts. Time for a new and improved, unbiased media and try the current media for treason.

I am trained and schooled as a Police officer Who also has Bachelor Degree from Depaul and a Graduate Degree from UIC. So how can you defend an asshat journalist who has never been the police.
