Worse and Worse....for Dad

We aren't sure if the Tribune is publishing this stuff on purpose, but all they've been doing for two days is making the cops look reasonable:
  • Antonio LeGrier became fearful and went into his bedroom, locking the door. At some point, the teen came to his door and banged on it, using the baseball bat. The father then called police, telling authorities he feared his son may try to hurt him, the law enforcement source said.

[...] The father then called his downstairs neighbor, Bettie Jones, the first source said, and told her to keep her door locked and watch out for police, and let them in when they arrived. The father told authorities he didn't come back out, staying in his room because he was scared, and let Jones watch for police.
So dear old dad locks himself in the room and call the cops because he's in fear. Then he calls the neighbor lady and has her watch for the cops to let them in because he's too terrified to confront his son who has been beating on the door with a bat - the same bat he would then swing at responding officers. Dad's story is also changing about the "mental distress" he never told anyone about, except when he did sometime that isn't on any call taking tapes, and when the police barged into the house, except when all the blood is in the vestibule according to previous media reports.

Keep it up Tribune - you might actually be a real newspaper someday.

Countless cases of people being beaten with a baseball bat, whether seriously hurt or killed. I hope the lawyer for the cop uses those cases in defense of the cop.

In the Chicago Tribune's Voice of the People dated Tue. 29 Dec 15 various commentors relate how much better they know how to handle the two most recent shooting events. Commentor Suzanne Erfurth lists a plan in which she denigrates the police. She further related her deceased father who was a gun collector, gun rights advocate who drank a lot would have outperformed the Chicago Police in responding to a domestic disturbance even after he tossed back a pint of scotch. You have to ask yourself what is the Chicago Tribune's purpose in publishing such inflammatory rhetoric from halfwits who have no idea of what is going on in the streets of Chicago.

Think that's bad? I was watching ABC7 earlier. They made ZERO mention of the bat, ZERO mention of the father calling 911 in the first place, ZERO mention of him in fear for his life and ZERO reference that anything was even swung at the Officers. They did, however, just say that he was "combative when he was shot". Sure as shit, they also show a clip from CNN where dad is crying his eyes out during an interview while he talked about "the police being called because he only wanted to help his son when they just shot him". The media is just playing this entire thing out like he was never armed, never a threat, and the evil PO-LEECE just showed up and gunned down another "innocent" black victim. Oh, let's not forget the media constantly saying that he was an "engineering student" every five minutes and conveniently forgetting about his rap sheet and several arrest for resisting and battery to PO. The entire back story of him being off of his meds because his "friends told him to" and his "mother supporting it" disappeared as well.

Also from the story:

"Antonio LeGrier, the teen's father, told police his son went to his mother's home for Christmas break, but was then sent to stay with his father. On Christmas Day, his father invited him to a Christmas party, but the teen declined to go, the law enforcement source said the father told authorities.

When the father returned home from the party with a plate of food for the teen, the son became agitated with the portion, according to the law enforcement source. The father went to another holiday party, and upon returning, saw his son had grown more agitated with him, the source said the father told authorities."

Wow. The father thoughtfully brings him back some food from a party, and the son becomes irate over the "portion" size?

To the point of threatening his own father with a baseball bat well after the fact?

WOW.

CFD will wait at the door front for us the police to arrive when a mental call involving a violent mental or with a history of a fighting mental to an address. This is because we the police get paid to get our asses kicked by these insane lunatics! I've had so many brothers in blue get seriously hurt while trying to handcuff a mental. So i guess ONE of the officers on scene had to of had their head bashed in! To make it justified! Unfucking .....!

ALSO RELEVANT:

"When police arrived, Jones apparently opened the front door that separates the vestibule of the building with the front porch, according to the law enforcement source. When the officer arrived, they got to the second-to-last step before the porch when the teen came running out of the building, swinging the bat, and shots were fired, the source said."

It's not like the officer shot from street-level distance at a calm, stationary person simply holding a bat on the porch.

**The officer was literally just a few feet away from

- a charging 19-year-old male
- aggressively swinging a deadly weapon
- who had pending court dates regarding alleged violence towards others
- was launching a surprise attack from close proximity while on his own familiar turf
- after causing sufficient fear of harm in his own father that the father not only called the police, the father could not even leave the room he was confined in**

As a non-LEO member of the public, this seems to clearly indicate an act of self-defense by the officer. This is tragic regardless, and people need to avoid rushing to judgment until all the facts are in.

The cop was apparently being charged by a male swinging a baseball bat from a few feet away, suddenly charging from the doorway of the house.

It sounds as though Ms Jones family understands it was not the officer who caused this.

This entire "Mental" issue is a very dangerous topic.
Lost in all of this is that, when it comes to our safety, we shouldn't care if we are dealing with a mental or not, we care about the action, not the motive.
The only difference between a mental and a criminal, is that the criminal knows what he is doing is wrong, but doesn't care.
We must base our response (use of force) on the act (the physical threat), the motive only matters for criminal charges.
Yes, of course you can treat a mental differently, but that ends at the first sign of a violent act.

It's possible, but I doubt it, that the media realizes that maybe they pushed things too far with their false reporting on these police shootings. They wanted a news story to pick up ratings so they are willing to agitate the low IQ crowd. The problem is those dummies (media and protesters) don't know when to quit. They make racial tensions worse and provoke violence. Not to mention that in the process many people are now starting to feel some sympathy for Rahm.

With new training, officers will be encouraged to ask themselves questions such as: “What is the full range of options for how to respond?” “Do I need to take action immediately or can I slow the situation down and buy more time?” and “ If the conflict is minor and does require police intervention, should I just leave the scene?”

So does this mean we will now be allowed to say "19-Paul squad...they just having a little family disputewith bats n knifes"!

Per the Tribune: City wants to have all officers equipped with TASERS by summer"

Unless Dean rolls over (very likely) the City will have to buy them."First issue clause" of the contract.

Also: "The department also devised a training procedure that focuses on teaching officers how to avoid using force if at all possible and as long as it’s safe."

Take your time getting to the call. Let the agitated person tire out. Stay unengaged as long as possible. WHat happens, happens.

Get and stay fetal. Also City getting grief for police getting a pass on speeding and redlight cameras. So drive slow and legal.

Reported in the Sun-Times LeGrier was in foster care since he was 5 since mommy abused him and she told social workers, "she was going to kill her son." How are police supposed to figure out this level of dysfunction and tase it into compliance? The officer involved must be going through hell and Rahm better not throw him under the bus.

Will some CPD/FOP official finally go on tv and let the public know that Tasers would not be viable options in this case or the Laquan McDonald shooting? You cannot use a Taser on people on PCP, People holding a knife, or people swinging an aluminum baseball bat. This would put the officers life in danger and in too close of a proximity to the offender. Asshole monday morning QB's and alderfools need to know Tasers are for corralling unarmed combative drunks,non-compliant asshats, and known police fighters. Also dispel the notion that a Taser can be deployed up a flight of stairs, onto a porch with sniper rifle accuracy from sixty feet. Shotgun with beanbag round may work as non-lethal option from a distance, but that costs money and Rahm won't get a ta$te from those companies, like he will from uncle terry hilliard at Tasercorp.

This was done to the military from 2004 forward when Abu Gharib broke - and now that "the war is over" is being enshrined. By the same desk jockey cowards you might be familiar with....the point of this isn't truth, justice, fairness but submission.

So you're being beat into the "Fetal" position and mouthing PC platitudes to survive.

Just so you know from the Presidents own lips "The Model is Camden."

Camden city, NJ police no longer exist. It's over to the new Camden County police.

They'll take the hit on crime to take power away from you and put it where and with who they want it.

"Crime rates in Camden soared in 2011 and 2012 after police department layoffs that were put into place as the state's subsidy for Camden was reduced. Since the new department arrived, there's been a sharp drop in reported crime." - NJ.com

Politics is Power.

From Toni Preckwinkle in and interview in response to Rahm's speech

(Part one)

"It's hard for me to believe that the police in the city of Chicago could get away with the shootings and executions of young black and brown men if the victims of those shootings and executions were white," Preckwinkle said. "There's a culture in the police department, I think, and in our larger society that black and brown lives don't matter in the same way that the lives of white people matter.

+++++++++++++++

Ms. P: although the above quote angers me because you are incorrectly labeling police shootings as "executions" in order to further your political ambitions under the guise of caring about your community, I will try to respond in a measured way. I am a retired CPD supervisor and I can tell you without equivocation that police officers, do not go to work every day in hopes that they can shoot someone, even more so today than in any era in the past.

Speaking to recent incidents, PO Van Dyke has been charged and barring a full collapse of the Cook County Court system, and a 100% turnaround by the media, will be convicted and jailed if only because he has no chance for a fair trial in this town. I will not comment on on the incident, his thought process or the evidence, because none of that matters.

Part two:The political "leaders", social activists and the cooperating (meaning all) media have poisoned the well for as far as jury summonses can be sent.

As to the tragedy this weekend, I can only imagine the sorrow and consternation of the family of the innocently killed bystander. A horrible outcome, and I am positive that the officer involved feels sick about it. I hope that he can get through the incident and it's aftermath without permanent mental scars.

As to the man (yes, a man) with the bat; the officer did not seek him out, did not stalk him, did not plant a weapon not in any way seek to find someone to execute. The officer and his co-workers were SUMMONED to that scene by a father too afraid of his own son, afraid for his own life. So afraid that he locked himself in a bathroom or bedroom, called the police and remained locked in his room to PROTECT HIS OWN LIFE from his son. The father knows his son, knows his past, (a recent violent past according to court and police records from DeKalb), knows his violent tendencies, knows that his ex wife sent the son to him because the son was a problem.

12/30/2015 06:00:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Part three:

Those problems appear to stem from some sort of mental illness. An illness for which the family sought and received treatment. He was prescribed medicine that he stopped taking because his mother, HIS MOTHER, MIND YOU, told him to stop taking. So he stops the medicine, and as sure as night follows day, his behavior degrades and we are where we are, the young man coming at a police officer with a deadly weapon. And I can assure you, a bat, whether wood or metal is a deadly weapon. If you don't believe that to be true, I will be happy to demonstrate for you the efficacy of a baseball bat as a weapon using anything that approximates a human skull or bone and tissue.

Police officers across America, and in any civilized country are not trained to take a potentially life threatening blow from a blunt force weapon, or a gunshot or get stabbed or run over, or allow those things to happen to other citizens before deciding after such an act to apply deadly force. We are trained to eliminate a threat prior to the violent act.

That is what happened here. The officer, in a split second (because that is all the time we get) determined that the man was a threat to him, his fellow officers and the very citizens that had called him to the scene. So the officer, following the oaththat he took to protect lives and property eliminated the threat. Your mention in your remarks of police officers executing brown and black citizens is at best disingenuous and at worst, inflammatory. The police react to situations as those situations are presented to them. If a person points a gun at a police officer or citizen, or presents in a threatening manner in any way that threatens a life, then the officer is duty bound to stop that from happening in a legal justifiable manner.

What would you and the media be saying if the officer hesitated, allowing the disturbed young man to turn his violent actions on the innocent neighbor, killing or maiming her? You would be using your same bully pulpit to have him fired for dereliction of duty.

Again, the fact that an innocent person was killed is tragic in every way. But Ms. Preckwinkle I would implore you to remember that the police were summoned to the scene.

No one sought to eexecute anyone.

I have recommended not talking to the media for quite some time now, but if you feel the need to tell the media about how you rescued three kids from a burning house or arrested a man wanted for raping and robbing an elderly woman, please say the following...

I will be more than happy to tell the media my story if my race and the race of the victim or offender is included in the narrative. If the media feels the need to report that an accused officer is white and the "victim" is black, then they should report the background of every person in every situation. This particularly goes for white officers, because we are the ones that are chiefly being vilified.

I have heard white Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke or white officer Jason Van Dyke so many times now that I'm almost convinced that I work for a town called White Chicago or have the job title of White Officer. And of course this trend is nationwide and never ending.

Challenge every politician that wants to pass these unconstitutional laws and policies affix their name proudly to it AND refuse immunity from liability if these laws/policies cause undue harm to the police.

Make them put their money where their mouth is. Get constitutional law experts to chime in and reinforce the challenge.

Chances are the city will give away a couple of million dollars to this family. Then in true ghetto fashion they will blow it. I remember Jeremiah Mearday. That idiot was awarded 1.8 million dollars. He blew it all. He had a supped up SUV and he double parked it by a club at North Avenue. He got out to talk to some ladies. A drunk driver crashed into it and he totaled it. He only had liability insurance and the other driver had no insurance. Also a lady friend stole $200,000 in cash he had underneath his bed. The lady friend drugged him and then they ransacked his crib and they took his cash. Ah the good ole days. The same shit is going to happen to this ghetto family. In the end, Darwin always wins.

Gone into the national news now --

Guidance to unarmed aviation police: Run and hide

Updated 9:15 PM ET, Wed December 30, 2015

"Chicago (CNN)Hundreds of police officers at one of the country's busiest airports say in the case of an active shooter, they are instructed to run and hide.

"That's because these officers are unique among the nation's major airports: They don't carry guns.

"Their badges, uniforms and vehicles all say "police." And they are certified police officers in the state of Illinois.

"But these nearly 300 aviation police officers, also known as aviation security officers, are not allowed to carry guns at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports.

"The officers who are armed are from the Chicago Police Department, which is the primary law enforcement agency at O'Hare and Midway.

"Internal aviation department documents obtained through department sources state, "If evacuation is not possible: hide."

"The documents advise locking doors, turning off lights and remaining quiet and calm.

"We must also ensure that unarmed security personnel ... do not attempt to become part of the response, but could be invaluable to the evacuation efforts," the documents said.

"In addition, a training video shown to aviation police officers has the same instructions: "If evacuation is not possible, you should find a place to hide where the active shooter is less likely to find you. Block entry to your hiding place and lock the door."

"That makes no sense, said aviation police officers interviewed by CNN. Aviation officers say they want to be able to carry guns on the job.

"We're not trying to replace the Chicago police officers; we just want to have the tools to do the job like every other law enforcement agency in the country," said one officer who requested anonymity..."

I did come up with this --

CTA to provide free rides overnight on New Year's Eve

Dec 30 2015 03:06PM CST

"CHICAGO (STMW) - CTA riders will not have to pay for trains and buses over the New Year’s holiday.

"Beginning 10 p.m. Thursday, all CTA trains and buses will be free to ride, according to a statement from the agency. Riders will not need to touch their fare cards at turnstiles or before boarding buses until 4 a.m. Friday.

"The CTA will also extend hours and increase the frequency of service for several bus and rail routes, the statement said."

Chicago officer didn't see 55-year-old neighbor before fatal shooting, newspaper reports

12.30 / 06:16 tampabay.com

"CHICAGO — The Chicago police officer who last weekend shot a 19-year-old teen and a 55-year-old mother of five told investigators he didn't see the woman until after she had been accidentally shot, the Chicago Tribune reported...

"The officer told authorities that as he and his partner arrived early Saturday morning at a West Garfield Park home, Quintonio LeGrier ran out of the building, swinging a bat at both officers.

"The officer fired at the teen several times, fatally striking him. But the officer also fatally shot in the chest Bettie Jones, a downstairs neighbor who the Tribune reported was standing in the doorway behind the teen. The officer later said he didn't see her."

Lets play "What if..."

Police respond to a scene of a mental disturbance. On arrival the police are the victims of an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The police officers discharge their weapons in defense of their lives, which results in the accidental death of a non-combatant. The assaulter recovers and is taken into custody.

He could/should face charges of aggravated battery of a police officer and murder charges, as his assault resulted in the death of another. (Read the Illinois Statute on "Accountability") And check the case law.

But Rahm is throwing the police under the bus yet again with the line that "deadly force should be the last option, not the first."

It is. Most police officers go out of their way not to use deadly force. Sounds like this situation sounds like it went bad so fast that deadly force wasn't just the first choice, it was the only choice.

While the "father" has filed a civil suit for the loss of a son that he had little to do with, none of the people that were around him are calling for criminal charges against the police. And rightly so. Because the "family" might not like where charges land.

OT:

"There is, however, this study by the Brennan Center, which looked at statistics from the 30 largest US cities. Needless to say, murders happen outside big cities. But their study, which was able to get data from most of those cities, found an overall 11% rise in the murder rate as of Oct. 1 (pretty substantial) and a slight decrease in crime overall. One point to bear in mind is that murder rates have fallen so far over the last 20 years that relatively small differences can be substantial in percentage terms. The numbers are still lower than they were as recently as three or four years ago. But there are some cities where the numbers have really jumped. In Washington, DC for instance, the murder rate has gone up 54 percent since last year, from 104 homicides last year to 160 this year. Meanwhile, Baltimore's murder rate went up a staggering 61%! It's worth noting that there were even more murders in DC as recently as 2008. Other cities like Boston, Detroit and Las Vegas have seen their rates drop substantially. But still, a 50% jump is a big move. There's no getting around that."

No Toni, its because blacks are the offender in crimes 9 out of 10 times in chicago. That makes it a high probability that the police are going to encounter these black criminals since its their job to arrest them and some are going to be armed and some might try and kill the officer so he doesn't have to go to jail. A better solution would be to have these black people obey the law so the police don't go looking for them but there are so many of them who are fatherless and on the road to nowhere and are being empowered by racists leaders like you to act like even bigger assholes because they know you will support them.

The culture among blacks that they are always the victim is what the problem is.

First they said he had

And then he hadn't

Then they said he did

And now he didn't

Next they'll say they weren't

Though, yes they were

Or they'll say they were

And yet they weren't

And, yes, I'm so confused

So what am I gonna do?

Oh yeah, I remember......
