- A man has died from a head wound suffered in a shooting early Christmas Day in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, authorities said.
and a reclassification....
- Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found battered inside his apartment last month in the North Side Uptown neighborhood.
Officers arrived about 3:45 p.m. Dec. 26 to conduct a well-being on 63-year-old Keith West at his apartment in the 4500 block of North Sheridan Road, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Someone had called police after they could not make contact with West.
He was discovered inside the apartment “seriously battered,” police said.

Did anyone watch Trump's speech in Vermont on Thursday? He pointed out that police need to be treated better and that some cities are out-of-control. He made a big point of talking about police as well as care of veterans.
Forget listening to a 30-second sound byte of him on one of Ten O'Clock News programs. Watch a whole speech and hear what he has to say.
What I have found about him is that he "gets it" when it comes to what America is suffering from. He will fix it.
One more thing...
As to Chicago's death toll, I am not surprised. If it all blows up in Rahm's face like it seems to be doing, good. Chicago is Rahm's Waterloo. He's finished.
No more political positions - at least elected ones. People are seeing the incompetency in both him and Anita Alvarez. That's great.
Watch those numbers steadily increase in 2016. The reason for this will be twofold:
1) With the ridiculous amount of animosity and scrutiny aimed at coppers now the overwhelming majority will retreat into a shell. Fuck these idiots let them have the police they think that they want.

I think that you might be a little on the low side. I worked in Area 4 in the 70's and 80's and we handled over 400 alone with 900 plus in the city common. Looks like it is going back to something close to that. A lot depends on the ages and numbers of the male population. This is cold January and if this keeps up Chicago would be approaching 700 by the end of the year not even taking into account hot Summer days. Then, add in the end of street stops and police initiated confrontations and who knows where it will go? I do know that If the Feds were breathing down my back and every asshole out there with a camera I would be doing only what is required and nothing more and pretty cautious about that. This new police administration and the mayor hoping to save his skin by cracking down on the cops, then add the new independent IPRA and a leader hoping to make a name for herself, don't look for an even break.

As the normal people live their lives, they will be unaffected by this number. In that 501, there are very few victims. I've explained this to many friends and neighbors when asked. If you are not a gang banger, if you don't hang around gang bangers and keep good company and if you don't sell drugs, chances are excellent that you will not be shot, plain and simple.
There are very few real victims in that 501 number. Most made the city much better by their quick exit from this earth. If you get angry when people on this site cheer higher numbers, realize they are cheering that.
FOP , PBPA must demand two man cars 24/7 on Patrol in Chicago .
Get every office police back in a car , put any police officer that can walk , talk , that is on disability back to work behind a desk or cancel their disability pension .

"proud" may not be the right word. I'm not sure there is a right word for the disgust feeling that almost all cops have for the general disintegration of this country started by the LBJ Great Society. We had a great country, imperfect, but fought for and built by generations of Americans. Then welfare became a way of life and voting an occupation to obtain more at the expense of everyone who worked. We who enforced the law became increasing discussed at being politicians stealing for themselves and those who refuse to work for a living.
When you handle enough blood, there is an emotional armor that you develop that you will NEVER understand. Those who have disarmed us in any way, by cutting our benefits, our equipment, or in the courts then lie to everyone about "crime is down" can go to hell. I have always been proud to be a Chicago Police Officer.

I want to do some real world anti criminal/gangs activism in 2016, support our good Chicago Police.
I want to do more than just complain on the internet, make comments to news stories, complain to my alderwoman.
Does anyone know of any effective private citizen anti crime groups in Chicago?
Is the Chicago Crime Commission still in operation? I bought their excellent 2013 "Gang Book", but I have never reached a live person through their contact page.
I'm up for doing literature distribution at train stations and if we have the numbers a pro police demo near city hall.
I'm tired of the anarchist, Communists, BlackLivesMatter liars dominating our streets.

Be informed and vote. Talk to your friends and relatives and get the to vote. This Democratic machine that has strangles this city and elected two presidents has too much power. Time for them to go.

Chicago’s problem isn’t guns; it’s gangs. Gun control efforts in Chicago or any other major city are doomed because gangs represent organized crime networks which stretch down to Mexico. Your president must be. He's not saying anything or doing anything about this and his executive orders aren't gonna stop any of it. He's not shedding any tears over this. He's just saying FU to gun manufacturers and law abiding citizens by delaying the citizen's right to get a gun and the seller's right to sell a gun. A more extensive background check isn't gonna stop anything, just cause a longer wait for someone to legally purchase a gun.
Lets not forget how the merit commander of Area North conveniently reclassified a 017th Dist. aggravated battery/handgun to a homicide on 01 Jan 2016. Banger gets shot on 12 December 2015 and is pronounced on 15 December 2015 but not reclassified until 01 January 2016. Thats how the merit commanders are complicit in the Compstat scam.

Get every office police back in a car , put any police officer that can walk , talk , that is on disability back to work behind a desk or cancel their disability pension .

"proud" may not be the right word. I'm not sure there is a right word for the disgust feeling that almost all cops have for the general disintegration of this country started by the LBJ Great Society. We had a great country, imperfect, but fought for and built by generations of Americans. Then welfare became a way of life and voting an occupation to obtain more at the expense of everyone who worked. We who enforced the law became increasing discussed at being politicians stealing for themselves and those who refuse to work for a living.
When you handle enough blood, there is an emotional armor that you develop that you will NEVER understand. Those who have disarmed us in any way, by cutting our benefits, our equipment, or in the courts then lie to everyone about "crime is down" can go to hell. I have always been proud to be a Chicago Police Officer.
"Proud" , is like saying after cutting our manpower, our benefits, crap equipment, fucking us in the courts and in the media, pandering to pukes like BLM and Pfleiger
press, lying about crime to the people but we know better and murders and crime goes through the roof ...is like TOLD YA SO.
But Rahm wants to blame the police and will spend all he can to screw us.

I once read some sociological study that estimated that there is a hard core here of about 100,000 people causing most of the s__t. Related to that old saying that goes like "By the time you get seven or nine people together, at least one of them will know or have some sort of connection with the others."
It is true that many of them are no loss -- but they do so much God-damned damage while they are allowed to remain. For every arrest, there are probably 10, 100 more crimes they got away with. The problem arises in the living hell they make of life for the people around them -- sleeping little kids taking a bullet through the wall of the house.
Police were invented to stop that kind of thing. Jeez, at least let them try.

Coppers used to know the bad apples in an area better than anyone, and chase them off, go through them every time they spotted them.
Do much less than that that today -- even a justifiable self-defense -- and the dirt ends up with $5 mil and a street named after them or something -- memorial plaques embedded in a city-owned sidewalk commemorating a convenience-store robber who heaved himself halfway into a squad car window and wrestled the officer for his duty weapon before getting a couple a fingers shot off.
I know in 024 there was a memorial plaque on the side of a building -- east side of Clark, north of Lunt? -- commemorating a couple of officers killed in a gunfight with robbers in the 1940s. Wonder if it's still there.
I agree -- not good.

This post brought back memories of the wagon morgue runs we used to make. I had completely blocked them from my duty day memories. I'm sure that there is an alzheimers joke in the making. But, seriously, they were as strange as strange can be. I'm glad the new troops don't have this responsibility. Seeing death so often and having to write paper is one thing but then personally dealing with the remains was a whole different emotional realm that was included in the job then. Carrying a stiff down 3 flights of stairs on those canvass and pole strtchers; It's like a bad dream returning. You just had to makes sure that you had the head end of the stretcher since the feet end always went first down the stairs. Gravity could make evil things happen.
What's the worst case job scenario for your average office worker who decides to write SCC and bitch about the police?; Spill your coffee on your desk?
