Coppers Injured

  • A crash on the city's Northwest Side injured two police officers and critically injured another man, officials said.

The crash occurred when police attempted to pull over a black van near West Belmont and North Long just after 1 a.m. Sunday in the city's Belmont Cragin neighborhood. The van resisted and sped off, running a red light and hitting a police car head-on, police said.

The van's 35-year-old driver was hospitalized in critical condition; the two officers were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The van "resisted." That a new one on us. Were TRR's completed?
  • "He was drunk and he didn't have a license," said Cameron Stegenga, a passenger in the van who spoke exclusively with ABC7. "But the cops even told us that if he would have stopped and said, 'Look, I'm drunk, we're going right here,' they would have let us go and none of this would have happened."
Really Cameron? And your basis for believing that was what exactly? Especially with in-car cameras, body cams, street cameras everywhere. Those days are gone.
  • Stegenga said he watched his friend fly through the windshield.
Well then you'll have a great story to tell at the reunions we suppose. Best wishes to the injured officers after being rattled by these morons.

Don't burst their bubble. Truth or not, maybe the next stupid drunk will pull over?
I doubt this clown would have pulled over and not run. Drunk and no license? He was that stupid and was going to rabbit.

If the driver went through the windshield, he must not have been wearing his seat belt. Not wearing a seat belt is automatically cause for pulling a vehicle over in almost all jurisdictions, and good for a ticket. No seat belt is a big NO-NO. Can't have people driving around with no seat belt. Good work officers, and get well quick to the injured officers.

I remember the Flying Stegenga Brothers. They used to put on a great show at Ringling Bros Circus.

Not a PO here. But notice the "van" resisted not the "driver".

That's like my kid saying "it fell" instead of "I dropped it".

That's expected from a 7 year old. Not from an adult journalist. Where's the professionalism with the journalism career today? More importantly, Where's the sense of responsibility? This country's going to shit.

How many deaths and injuries because of Chicago being a "Sanctuary City" and what has it cost? Before you view this as just another DUI, consider how this DUI took place here, instead of some 3rd World Hell Hole. If this guy had not been in our Sanctuary City, this would have just been at worst a donkey collision somewhere other than Chicago. Now we have to pay pain and money, for a failed political policy. I hope my brothers recover and heal quickly. Baby"G"

Sure, just because a van is "black" you coppers are going to f--k with it. If the van had been "white" I bet none of this would have happened.
Like the Tribune said this morning just because 2 out of three "black" vans in Ferguson, Mo.. have warrants the police think they can jack every black van around.
Can't wait for the Justice Department to get here so this bullshit will stop.

My God! Where will this madness end!?!?

Previously it was only SUVs that took control of the 'driver's' mind & turned him into a helpless human robot, or just incapacitated him completely so those evil machines could create wanton havoc as they sped down a road looking for innocent pedestrians to run over, or cars full of grandmothers to bash into head on.

Now Van's have a mind of their own too.

And ironically, some brainiacs now want to have nothing but 'Driverless Cars' on the road. I don't think that's such a good idea. You'll never be able to tell when one will 'go rogue' and try to kill you for the fun of it.

If you ever hear of a Serial Killing Prius you'll know that the end of the world is near.

"Stegenga said he watched his friend fly through the windshield."

Just WATCHED?

He didn't get a smartphone video?

What a lamer. This should immediately be on YouTube, all different angles, closeups with goofy expressions, looped over and over again with a good soundtrack like "Up ,Up And Away."

That's how it's done today. These people playing with blocks or something? Geez.

"16 SHOTS AND I THREW IT ALL UP!" What a waste, a whole tray of Malort Jello Watermelons.
