Amen to that, my brother or sister. I always try to greet any chaplain of any faith whom I encounter, even if only for a moment. CFD has some awful good guys out there too, we have more than once stood and prayed a few for the guys up there ventilating that lousy truss roof... >shudder< ...lot of towns are requiring hazard signage on bldgs. like these, and they are right. Signs too small if you ask me, but then I hope they have them in the databases...

Look for massive area-wide consolidation in 911 dispatch, BTW. State law will require 911 centers to be cut by about half within maybe 3 years. I do hope that lifesaving efficiency/local knowledge will therefore double within that time...

Mmm...

Always have been good things & always will be. The awfulness overwhelms at times.

Guy here was in an awful fire rescue situation, could not get people out from behind a locked set of burglar bars. Tool available RIGHT NOW would have disappeared that lock in seconds. Of course, City is so f__ed up it'll take 20 years for them to get it, and by that time it'll be expired for use, but...two steps back, one step forward, money spread all around hell and back instead of simply ordering from supplier who would provide free training too.

Face it. The city you see is the city they want. There should be HALF the number of aldermen and HALF the number of people at work in City Hall, and those that remain should be strained to their mental limits. Might actually have to think occasionally. "How do we get this done? How do we get that done?" Cheap. Don't subcontract some task out to a firm that will show up nine hours later with their fingers up their nose "waiting for authorization" -- we need 100' of simple, fire-resistant Kevlar rope IN OUR TRUNK. NOW.

Like that.

Of course, I am a practical person who cares less about rules than I do about RESULTS, so I'll never fit in. Nor will a lot of our best.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
These loving men and women of God are all sworn, some wear the uniform because they started on the streets went to the Chaplain unit as officers. No matter what religion they are, they would have no barriers to help anyone of all creeds. All deserve our love and thanks. When you see any of them, tell them so !

We are blessed to have the men and woman of the CPD Chaplin's Unit serving us. 40 years ago I was married by Father Barron the then Police Chaplin. Both me and my wife, Pat, were Chicago Police Officers and when we asked him, he was overwhelmed with joy. The one thing that always stuck out in my mind was something he said at the wedding reception. He stated, "this is the first time I married two police officers and it is my delight to have done this". He went on to say it was such a change. He mentioned all of the Police Funerals, going to hospitals late at night due to a Police Officer being injured, and the every day duties of administering to his "Flock". He turned to me and Pat and said, "Thank You for allowing me this opportunity to marry the two of you." Several years ago, my daughter Gina was getting married. She had met Father Dan Brandt and they had become friends. My wife suggested to Gina that she should ask Father Brandt if he would marry her and her further husband. My daughter did ask him and he agreed. If you could imagine this, he had everyone crying and laughing at the same time. What a wonderful memory. All I can say is THANK YOU, THE CPD CHAPLIN'S UNIT. You have been a big part of my family life.
