Why Government is Broke

  • Up to 30 inmates at a Northern California jail threw punches at each other when a huge brawl broke out in front of security cameras installed only 24 hours earlier.

Santa Clara County Jail officials were about to hold a press conference announcing the installation of the cameras on the facility’s fourth-floor maximum-security cell-block when the fight broke out
And where did these new-fangled cameras come from that captured the entire incident on the tier?
  • The jail installed 12 security cameras on Wednesday that Smith purchased with her own money at a Costco. She expects the $761 purchase to be reimbursed by the county, the station reported.

Smith went to Costco after being told it would cost $20 million and take two years to install security cameras throughout the jail and other lock-ups.
Because of course, these weren't "inmate-proof" minority-vendor approved after a fixed bidding process...but they seem to have worked just fine capturing the fight.

You have no idea what this cost you the taxpayer. Honestly, it is mind blowing. If you knew the amount of money that the politicians waste in the name of minority hiring and whatever pandering the politicians feel they have to do to keep their position, you would be hanging them from lampposts and then burning their corpses. You would hunt down every living relative and eradicate their seed from the Earth.

Pretty much.

This would never happen in Illinois. State officials know they would never get a dime back. Besides, when you do it yourself, no one gets paid off.

The city buys ink cartridges that cost $300 from a "approved vendor". People wonder why the city is broke.

Remember when black Phil Jackson took over CPS as head? He took the media on a tour of the CPS warehouses where he displayed all the getting old brand new computer, cars, bicycles. books languishing in warehouses millions of dollars worth of taxpayers paid waste. Phil was quickly set up and let go, he is head of the black star project (hello media looky here), He got another position but the elected thieves knew they were finally caught! Nothing happened to the criminals involved with this travesty, misuse of taxpayers money. Like rahm is doing now how much being moved under the table to give away friends and family projects while the cities required bills (Police pension funds) are not paid in a timely manner!

Don't pay your water bill water is cut off! Miss your real estate tax bills 2X, a crooked city county connected scumbag lawyer gets involved and sells your very home way under market value, next you see tommy darts county sheriffs throwing your stuff outside!

It would be nice to outsource our jails to China. House each inmate for $5 per day.
We could afford to lock up a lot more criminals.

Reminds me back in the 90's my boss, a Lieutenant in the ISP, was trying to get a pager from the Department of Central Management Services. They were going to charge $50 a month when he could get the same one for $5 a month thru regular retail outlets. But no, he wasn't allowed to do that and had to go thru CMS. Damn thieves.

In Crook County that contract would've been $30 Million after being routed through the approved vendor Vanecko security company.

Who installed the cameras? Are there going to be grievances filed and forced removal of the cameras so the right people can come in and do it instead?

To be fair: $20M for cameras to cover the entire jail and all the other county lockups. That would be a lot more cameras. Also, how is the video being stored? A reliable high-capacity digital storage system with backups, which ensures verifiable timestamps, would not be cheap either. There's also image quality. A lot of cheaply done video surveillance produces blurry, low contrast images that aren't much use.

Consider the use of video replays in the NFL. The video is recorded with high-quality professional cameras operated by expert technicians under good lighting - yet even so the images are often insufficient to resolve an ambiguous play.

The sort of camera one can get at Costco for $64 is better than nothing, but won't do the job properly.

Just A Civilian (who has set up cheap video surveillance and knows its limits)
