High Powered?

Here are some of the guns the State Police captured on the highways:

A great job by the Troopers, but we know that they don't write the headlines.

From one of our comments:
  • That high powered assault rifle is a Mossberg 22 that you can pick up at your nearest Cabella's....
All that loose ammo at the bottom of the picture? .22 LR. Compare that to what most cops carry nowadays:

Will it ruin your day? Sure. Can it kill you? Of course, High powered? Not really. But it looks like a scary black "assault rifle" so you know the media is going to run with it to further an agenda.

I disagree. No way media would report the rifle as being "black"...merely a 18-24 inch long, 5-10 years old, using .22 long rounds. Any info call police.

I have seen the damage a 22 LR mag can do. A very dangerous and accurate weapon in the hands of someone who knows. And, very quiet. But, not to worry. When the democrats take over the White House and stack the Supreme Court, it will be the end of the 2nd amendment as we know it. Nancy Pelosi will be in charge of confiscating all privately owned firearms. Just like Australia.

"High power" can mean many different types of ammo. There are high powered .22 magnums with customized noses that can go very fast with a heavy kick. I just think it's funny that they spent so much resources and achieved so little. What were the people charged with? If some farmer from indiana just got his firearm taken, that shouldn't count. Just saying...

Those guns were taken off gang members, the ISP doesn't write the headlines. People are more likely to read on if it says "high powered" as opposed to ".22 rifle." We know that we aren't going to stop the E-way shootings but we are just trying to slow it down. The guys volunteered to come and help the Chicago troopers, because like every other ISP district and CPD, we are undermanned. The budget battle in Springfield has caused no academy classes to be put through but we still have retirements. All we are trying to do is help each other out. Nothing will change until a relative of one of our beloved politicians is driving down the E-way and gets caught in the crossfire, maybe then something will get done. How many have been killed in the line of duty just in crashes alone?Very dangerous place to work and one man units usually. They are more strapped then we are. How long do they have to wait for an assist? Seriously how many of us would work the expressway at night by ourselves. Yeah sign me up for 79th and the Ryan on midnights by myself. Screw that. 3/02/2016 12:46:00 AM
I disagree / don't see it as laziness. Quite the opposite.
Frustration. Fear. Self preservation. The critical, biased "oversight" of the lawless ACLU on every move you make, every word you speak, every glance that seems awry. They are open about their anti police agenda and this is evidenced on their website as well as the handouts distributed and posted around the hoods. They are corners (I work in 10) next to the guys selling loosies - soliciting police cases. ... 'did the mean policeman(was he white?) hurt your feelings? tell me more ...'

The active solicitation of complaints against police by ACLU & the Only Some BLM folks/people is part of a deal brokered by white shirts and the corrupt administration. Where was FOP?

The deal is not only unfair to cops but is incredibly divisive. These anti police methods clearly pit Police AGAINST the community.

AND: the lying and lack of support by the administration and CPD leadership. Well, a decent union might make a case for "hostile work environment" complaint.

I don't see the current trend as LAZY - If you are a Chicago cop, that comment doesn't make sense. Sure there are lazy bums but that is NOT what is going on here.

Off Soapbox.

"For Us, By Us" -- hopefully this program will result in massive police and EMT defunding as large sections of our cities are turned into free-running "urban prairie." Perhaps "bankrupt rapper" 50 Cent can chip in to help save the Black Lives That Matter.

http://www.highlightzz.com/50-cent-shows-off-stacks-of-cash-in-freezer-after-bankruptcy-filing/

High-crime Philadelphia neighborhoods offer gunshot first aid classes using military BATTLEFIELD tactics

* Temple University Hospital is enlisting neighborhood residents in the program called 'Fighting Chance'

* The doctors and nurses conducting the training have plenty of experience, as the hospital treats at least 400 shooting victims a year

* The program is part of a national campaign by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security called 'Stop the Bleed'

* It recognizes that no matter how fast emergency responders get to a scene, bystanders will be there first

* Homicide is the leading cause of death for black males between 18 and 34 years old in Philadelphia and the rest of the U.S.

Settle down, gramps. The "choppa" is generally a term for a full-auto ak47, not a semi-auto ar, especially a .22. As for the "lazy mopes" on this job, I guarantee you CPD got more than 7 guns in those 7 days. How many did you get? I'll assume none, just like your arrest numbers. A 30 caliber magazine clip? Are you fucking serious? Emptied in a half second? That's 3600 rounds per minute. You're not getting that rate of fire out of anything you can carry in your hands. And then you criticize the reporters for being idiots! Priceless.

Take all your "magazine clips" and your various "calibers" of .22lr and go read a book about guns. Pay special attention to the part about the barrel shroud, better known as "the shoulder thing that goes up."

It's a shame that people still believe the stopping power myth. There's no magical property of the .45ACP round that gives it "stopping power." Shot placement is the absolute most important thing when trying to stop a threat. Practice hitting where you aim, aim where it'll count, and use whatever round you can fire most accurately and carry in the greatest quantity. If you have perfect aim and lightning fast reloading skills, by all means, get yourself a badass single stack. 45 and blast away. However, if you're that good, why not carry a 9mm and put more than twice as many rounds into the bad guy before reloading. If you're that good, 16 or more 9mm shots to the face should sufficiently deter the threat.

a 22 short round fired from a pistol with a homemade bs silencer saved the live of Ken Ito. But, his brain still scrambled. A 22 LR magnum will cause a lot of damage and has a good distance and velocity. The slug won't break bones ( Itos head bone was dense and blunted the round? and the slug will bounce around inside of you damaging a log of organs.

Seriously? Where have you been since the McDonald video was released? Try putting 16 shots on someone's face and see what happens tough guy. Whether justified or not, guess what, in this climate you're gonna have to justify each single shot and NO ONE in power will find that justifiable. Sure, a 45 is not for everyone, but why take it away as an option for those who are proficient with it. If a 45 equaled the stopping power of a 9 then no one in the world would use it as its more expensive and possibly harder to handle. So, yes a 45 definitely has been proven to have superior stopping power. Practice shooting at metal targets and observe how a 9 does not knock them down whereas a 45 does. A well placed shot with a 45 better than a well placed shot with a 9 too.

.45 Long Colt with heavy (250 to 270 grain) hard cast

Ditto for .44 Special.

.38 Special 158 grain soft lead, gas checked hollow point "gumballs"
@ 1000 fps or a hard cast Keith of the same weight at 1200 fps.

Keith slugs in .44 and larger caliber are designed for killing
large, vicious, angry, tenacious of life, four legged critters at
close to contact distance.

The most vicious and tenacious of critters are of course,

Aren't there rules against that?"

"Forbidding the 45". You are aware recruits have a 9 because of the ammo costs for the training? After probation recruits can upgrade to a 40 or 45.

"Superior stopping power". Christ...

The California highway shooter was using a 22 and everyone he killed had their window down. All the people he shot with the window up lived.

Fired from 4" away. Ask Ken Ito how effective that was?

An exception to the rule.

Kenny had a really, really, really thick skull.

Plus he knew them lightening fast, imperceptable to the eye, head jerk moves, learned from his youthful activities dodging papa-san's ire.

At least you've confirmed that you're a complete moron. My point, which I made extremely obvious, and which has been proven time and time again, it's that the .45 round does not have this mythical "stopping power" you choose to believe in. A secondary point, which you also missed, though it was also blatantly obvious, is that you should carry a round that you can fire most accurately and in the greatest quantity. McDonald didn't get 16 shots to the face. The whole problem with the McDonald scenario is that people viewing the video believe McDonald was walking away from police when he was shot, and that he was shot several times after he was no longer a threat. If you drop a guy with a knife after a few shots, then proceed to empty your magazine into him when he's no longer presenting a deadly threat to anyone, lube up your asshole and head down to county, because you're in for a hell of a ride. Just because someone presented a deadly threat at the time you fired your first shot, doesn't give you license to keep shooting until you're in slide lock. Shoot until the threat is eliminated. If it takes 16 rounds, use them, and be able to justify using all 16. My point was that having more ammo available with fewer reloads is better. Only a complete moron would argue against that logic, which is what you did. Have you ever been involved in a shooting? Did all of your shots hit your intended target? If there are multiple threats, isn't it better to have more rounds to send their way? How many people can you shoot while reloading? I'll take a wild guess and say that number is 0,just like for everyone else. I've seen 9mm knock down metal targets all day long. I don't consider that to be the test for "stopping power." You've also made the mistake of arguing against your own point, when you stated that .45 may be harder to handle. Why would you want a gun that you can't control as well? I'm sure you'll only read half of this and understand none of it, but at least I tried. Good luck shooting your tough metal targets with your magic "stopping power" rounds.

Navy SEAL Kyle DeFoore who now owns a firearms training company has several videos up on Youtube. In one of them he shoots cinder blocks with both 9mm and 40S&W. You can clearly see the 40S&W knock the cinder block down, make a huge hole and penetrate the block while the 9mm hardly moves it and makes a small hole that doesn't penetrate all the way through.

Make mine a 40S&W or 45ACP please.
