Stops are Still Down.....

  • Police stops in Chicago are down nearly 90 percent as the Chicago Police Department continues to struggle with bad morale and incessant violence.

From the start of the year to last week, police made only 20,908 recorded investigative stops, [...], a Chicago Police Department spokesman. Over the same period last year, there were 157,346 recorded stops.

Police also are seizing fewer guns: just 1,316 so far this year, while 1,413 were seized over the same period last year....

At the same time, shootings across the city are up 80 percent, a DNAinfo Chicago analysis found.
Wait - stops are down 90% and shootings are up 80%? But there is no such thing as an "ACLU effect"? Pardon our laughter, but really?

What's this sort of thing called in mathematics? A direct correlation? Where both variables match on an upward trending slope?

And it's resulting in the worse crime totals in nearly two decades:
  • As the first quarter of 2016 nears an end, violence in Chicago has reached levels unseen in years, putting the city on course to top 500 homicides for only the second time since 2008.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, homicides totaled 135, a 71 percent jump over the 79 killings in the same year-earlier period, official Police Department statistics show. That represented the worst first quarter of a year since 136 homicides in 1999, according to the data.

Shootings have jumped by comparable numbers as well. As of Wednesday, at least 727 people had been shot in Chicago so far this year, a 73 percent rise from 422 a year earlier, according to a Tribune analysis of department data.
Just remember, police are the problem. Always. Without fail.

Lets see...

We have the white guy dressed in African robes always crying about the police.
We have the media giving BLM a platform to bitch about everything that has nothing to do with the truth.
We have DOJ requesting documentation concerning CR's for active and retired personal.
We have the ACLU telling us how to police.
We have Lori DoLittle and her police accountability people just making more noise about the police.
We have the IPRA clan looking to fuck over a cop at the first chance.
We have the mayor who swears he's our best friend but then we all saw how Rahm treats his (Don't call me G-a-r-y) friend.

Right. I think I'll just answer my calls and leave the proactive policing to the professionals reverends. Besides, isn't that their job; to save lives.

OK - the cops have proved their point. You NEED to make stops to stop crime.

OK- got it! We see the numbers.

Now, go back to being the police and take care of these thugs!

You proved your point - now go kick ass.

Hmmmmmm,,,shouldn't the Mayor, ALL the Aldermen and civic leadership be saying this? The Media???

WELL?? The city is LOSING a LOT of money and will start losing a LOT more when people stop coming downtown.

In the mean-time, see you in Wisconsin or Indiana. No ballgame, shopping, restaurants, or Air show for me.

This is literally exactly what the ACLU recently said they wanted right? That they were "happy" street stops were down so drastically?

Still smiling that smug grin, with your selfish and reckless abandon? You have not made life better for anyone through this - not the police, not the communities these victims live in, and certainly not for the victims themselves.

It's terrible. You push reactive policing and tar everyone as a hateful jerk, you tie everyone's hands from the comfort of your office while proclaiming to know what is the best way to approach daily police work, and this is the end result which you smile at and support? It's sickening. - Not a cop

I'm tired of the mayor and department excusing it as a simple word "morale."Cops are burned out, tired, undermanned. Sick of being beaten up by media, reverends, protests, and the abuse from the people we try to serve. We put on a uniform everyday , put our lives in danger everyday only to see the worst people who fight with us, scream at us, treat us worst than a normal person would treat a dog, the dredge of society. We don't get any backing or support. It would be great it the politicians or brass would get on the tv and speak out for us, but we already know that won't happen. Everyday it's hate the police day on the news. So yes call it morale, but behind that word it's a lot more.!

A troll: When I heard that stops were almost tripple digits down from the prior year and murders were up double digits, it was clear to me that a less aggressive police force resulted in more criminal activity allowing association and movement by street criminals. Then the asshole at the ACLU was interviewed and retorted it has nothing to do with the rise he called it (I call it surge) in crime. More evidence as if more is needed that the ACLU promotes urban terrorism and crime. The reporter on the other hand made no challenge to the ignorance which was what we have come to expect too.

"Johnson, 55, is taking the helm of the Police Department at a time of remarkable bloodshed on Chicago’s streets. During the interview Thursday, he was notified that several people were shot in the Harrison District on the West Side." Instead of doing interviews left and right, shouldn't he be focusing on crime strategies to combat crime? No offense, I like EJ but screw talking to the media! Hit the floor running Eddie because it's gonna be an ugly ass Year for violence in Chicago.

Also, anyone see the press conference? EW and Escalante have no shame in their game. After both of them were bitch slapped by Rahm they were forced to stand next to EJ and swallow the shit as Rahm introduced him as new Sup. Their facial expressions were priceless but it's their own faults. No pride whatsoever! Especially EW, WTF would you go up there if your being forced out in a few weeks anyway? Escalante also should have stepped off as Interim Sup and gotten a Chief job somewhere else. Instead they chose to be humiliated on national news for the everyone to see.

OMG!!!!! Does this mean that the famous Kansas City Study of the 1970's is absolute BULLSHIT?
Perhaps because I was a cop for 32 years before I became a college instructor, I saw firsthand that a Police Presence DOES REDUCE CERTAIN CRIMES, ESPECIALLY VIOLENT CRIMES AND DRUG TRAFFIC.
Yet, this type of reasoning is marginalized, because it is anecdotal, rather than "research". Well part of the problem is that anecdotal data is being lived and experienced, as opposed to Research that is Observed via manipulated stats. Decades ago when Supt. Rodriguez and others jumped on the Community Policing Bandwagon, and sold the politicians on this nonsense, and began the era of More with Less, CPD was forced into this bogus belief. Meanwhile the City paid millions of dollars in overtime, to compensate for the absence of a police presence. Is this insanity? Real World v. Test World. If anyone is really paying attention to what is going on they must note that the "Fetal" Movement and Chicago Values (Both terms coined by Rahm) are not preventing a marked increase in violent crime in Chicago. Google the CompStat for New York City, a City much larger than Chicago. For the period 3/20/2016-3/26/2016: New York so far this year has only had 60 homicides, and 202 people shot. THIS YEAR CHICAGO HAS MORE THAN TWICE AS MANY HOMICIDES AND ALMOST THREE TIMES AS MANY PEOPLE SHOT! I think we have a "Problem" in Chicago. Richard M. Aztlan, Retired CPD Sgt.

Greyhound shooting suspect was from a Chicago suburb with a long record, anger at police

Posted 12:20 am, April 1, 2016, by Mark Holmberg, Updated at 08:32am, April 1, 2016

RICHMOND, Va. — Why?

Why did the shooter open fire as soon as state Trooper Chad P. Dermyer approached him at Richmond’s Greyhound bus station?

Why did he keep shooting and fighting till the end, as state police superintendent Col. Steven Flaherty described Thursday night?

Why was he in Richmond?

An official source identified the shooter as 34-year-old James Brown III of Aurora, Illinois.

CBS 6 found a James Brown III., an African-American with a long criminal history in Aurora, whose date of birth matches up with the information from our source.

Brown is well known to police there.

We talked to his aunt in Aurora, Edith Brown, who had helped raise Brown and had allowed him to stay with her until December, when she says she told him he had to leave.

She said, “He always liked the criminal side.”

Working smart and within the boundaries which have been set by the ACLU, BLM, etc (to ad nausea) have made the blue shirts of CPD much more efficient. Using the New York style of policing a weapon was recovered in just .898 of 1 percent of stops.

Since the wisdom has been instilled within the "ignorant" flock the recovery rate of weapons to stops has risen to 6.29%. while still recovering 93.135% of the total from last year. We can extrapolate that the remaining 97 weapons not recovered from 2015's total is more than enough to explain the increase of 71 homicides.

Thus more SMART policing will result in less stops (ISRs), with the benefit of more weapons recovered per stop and once the weapon ratio goes up and then homicides will go down.

And y'all just thought the ACLU wasn't looking out for you!!!

Stay Safe!!!!

Just wait, body cameras are coming funded by the department of justice. For those who remember, T.R.R. reports were introduced to protect officers just like body cameras are being introduced to protect officers. So the department used the number of T.R.R. reports as a gauge to identify troubled behavior. Remember those green, yellow and red bands comparing your performance to other officers? Kind of feel like you were deceived and sold a bill of goods?

The justice department wants their consent decree or total control over state regulated police agencies. Body cams, microphones and other assorted tricks will identify the time your actions are misconstrued or unprofessional. Out of the tens of thousands encounters officers have everyday, they will cherry pick those recorded incidents for which they can make their best argument achieving their nefarious goal of a hostile takeover consent decree complete with their feel good social justice remedies.

Think about the number of interactions you have with people each and everyday. Poor judgment is a miniscule percentage. Put a dozen or so questionable incidents together over a six month period, one could argue for the absolute control by D.C bureaucrats who condemn your actions and advance the notion the department is out of control. The same flunky bureaucratic lawyers condemning your actions will not go into crime ridden areas for a first hand birds eye view of poverty and crime without an armed police escort.

Our political and organizational leadership are cowards not standing up to the feds and left wingnut extremist communist founded front groups like the aclu. We do not have problems policing. Rome is burning. We have problems with out of control criminals who are not held accountable. Often felons and assorted criminals are rewarded for their criminal behavior with civil judgments authorized by unaccountable lawyers who wear black robes and are perched in a high chair in the courtrooms. And I might add, judges who are soft on crime and cater to society's disrupters of civilized behavior namely, the criminals and their henchmen in elected office.

I was all for supporting E. Johnson but his tribune comments on his youth negative experience with police just told me one thing here, still dropping the race card as a means to tell folks he understands them is not the way to go. I'm sorry but those type of stories need to stop. I feel you just like every other politician has created a more divisive society with this type of pandering. Yes we do know race issues exist today and 100 yrs ago as well. Are we in the same era, NO WE ARE NOT. Do citizens support and portray a lot of the violence and stereotype mentalities that occur today absolutely. If you don't want the police to stop you then STOP COMMITTING CRIMES! whether its from littering, to littering, to driving with suspended DL along with issues with your vehicles, etc....etc...etc....it needs to stop. When you give the police a reason to stop you and then want to argue about it because your not following the law then you are at wrong no matter how u look at it, and you will get a court date in front of a judge to explain yourself its that simple. Lets face it, yes there has been issues in police culture but it does not extend to the point of even close to the majority of officers being this way. When folks continue to blame someone else for their actions and are not held accountable for their own mistakes, till then nothing will change. I get it accountability should stem within the rank and file, however, acknowledging that there is a huge issue in societies culture that has contributed to Chicago violence should be the main focus on how and what we need to do to stop the violence. The way you portray and carry yourself speaks volumes, i'm sorry whether you like it or not it does. Therefore, change yourself within the communities and then maybe it will trend to something bigger. But now its all about putting blame at someone else for your own issues within and the results are showing how "F" up Chicago violence really is!!!

It's actually an "inverse correlation" - where a decrease in one thing is associated with an increase in another.

It's also interesting that a 90% decrease in stops did not result in a similar decrease in guns seized (there's some decrease, but not 90%). Suggests that cops are acting when they detect a gun.

Eddie Johnson

I WAS pleased at your appointment as I have heard from people I respect that you were a good and fair individual. I know that you are only one cog in the wheel and that realistically you cannot fight off all of our attackers.

I DON'T have that same respect for you any longer however after your comments to the media about being racially profiled as a youth. And then you don't even describe the event! I'm white and I was stopped by the police when I was young. They were responding to a battery just occurred and the offenders were white. I was polite, they were polite and I was on my way. I am not emotionally scarred over this incident. They were doing their job.

I don't know why the police stopped you way back when. I don't know what color they were, or where you were, or what time of day it was, or if you were driving, or if they had a hunch, or if you were with someone questionable. I also wonder Eddie if you ever stopped someone while working "for no reason" and realized you made a mistake and acted professionally etc. Eddie, do you realize that if you stop a white person in a black neighborhood that can be construed as racial profiling? Eddie do you realize that if a black officer stops a black subject in a white neighborhood it can also be construed as racial profiling?

Congratulations Eddie, you have just lumped yourself in with the very people who are trying/tried to make our jobs harder, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, President Obama, ACLU, IPRA etc etc etc. Good luck getting any hard chargers to stop ANYONE for ANYTHING anymore. You just shot off your mouth on nonsense and shot yourself in the foot. How do you get murders/shootings down Eddie? You stop people with guns. How do you know they have guns Eddie when they don't carry them in their hand or on a holster in plain view? You stop them based on reasonable suspicion Eddie. What do YOU do when the police stop people based on reasonable suspicion and there ends up being no gun and they beef that they were unjustly stopped and racially profiled Eddie? Well I think we know now what you are going to do Eddie.

Maybe you are just not a good public speaker Eddie and misspoke and now regret it. Maybe you ought to clarify your remarks.

Well I'm glad Mr. SUP... E. Johnson told his child hood stories about profiling and doesn't have to worry about racial profiling nowadays anymore since folks in his own communities are just killing the h@ll out of each other at no expense....Mr. Johnson don't worry your troops i'm sure got the message loud and clear from your interviews!! Again with the pandering and not addressing the accountability folks need to be held when contributing to the carnage on the streets, oh yeah and that there is a cultural problem within the neighborhoods which they seem to ignore.....unbelievable....

Hey how about the Tribune interview where the new Supt. Said "he knows first hand how it feels to be racial profiled and that he was stopped for no reason while home for spring break" he went on to say " he's now in a position to prevent that type of behavior" Good so now he can't ask the lowly POs to go out and make the stops. He just needs to tell that to all the other bosses because the days of stopping everyone for a stat are over. Sad to see him pandering already with his poor me story. Honeymoon is over. Now go hug father faker

4/01/2016 03:43:00 AM

He's pandering because he said he was racially profiled? And you're sure he never was...how? You conveniently forgot to mention him also saying he doesn't have an issue with the low ISR numbers and that many of the contact cards shouldn't have been done. And explain these pandering comments from the same article: "I have to emphasize that because these gun offenders are becoming so young, I'm going to ask the parents in the black communities to step up and be parents," Johnson said. "You have to be mothers, you have to be fathers. You have to know what your children are doing because if you don't raise them, the streets will."

OMG our boss was racially profiled one day of his life, really you had one bad day. Well here's something, many good officers were passed over for promotions because of the "club" and clouted that keep getting merit on top of merit, so they had a career of bad days! Isn't that similar to profiling, your career is based on who you know or who's ass you kiss?

Superintendent Johnson, your first order of business is to return those over promoted District Commanders, who have failed to motivate and lead their Officers, back to their career service rank.

This is what Yuri Bezmenov said almost 35 years ago when the seeds of Communism/Marxism/Alinskyism were sprouting and growing like weeds here in the United States. He said that the propaganda machine is so powerful that the brainwashing of the hearts and minds of our youth by university professors, who were former radicals themselves, will be completely irreversible. He went on to say that when debating one of these brainwashed Communist/Marxist/Alinskyist youths, you could show them printed source material or even verified historical data from a reputable indisputable source and they still would not believe your argument. The reason being that by acknowledging and accepting your source material they would be admitting that everything they have been taught by their radical professors and they way they have been living their lives, was one big lie. It would just be to much for them to admit that they had been duped, so they continue living the lie. Every American should watch this video.

Is the city providing them with that 20,000+ number. I don't see nearly half that number on the books. More B.S. that Rahm is feeding the media.

SCC, can we get an open post to come up with a realistic name for the "media". I don't think TV, radio or print media does justice to how fetal the "media' really act.

The Tribune is lying. Not to hard to figure out.

They have to make the mayor look as good as possible.

The fewer the guns seized...well, the laws of averages says they'll likely be used to cull the herd (can we throw Phlager into that herd?) If only Hillary's hero Margaret Sanger had her way that wouldn't even be a problem in 2016.

Sorry...

You can't "make" us have interaction
with people and folks who don't want
us in their neighborhoods.

Let them Police themselves and each other
and redirect stolen Police resources back
to the workers and active contributors of this city.

Let these hellish neighborhoods have the
"for us, by us" public safety that
"reflects da communerty" and let the
make believe clergy who have purposefully
stepped from beneath the cover of their "anointing"
to embrace worldly things and to do great works of iniquity.

Heh...
Learned that from a REAL
old-time, LEGIT Doctor of Divinity
"PREACHERMAN" from when we stood a
special attention post at a church
somewhere on the west side when we were
a young pup on this job.

He was just simply a gentleman
and a joy to talk with.

Interestingly enough, there were quite a few
second and third generation Police families
in his congregation.

Decent people tend toward similar good and honorable things.
Right?

Hmmm...
No doubt he rejoices at not being
in the land of the living to bear
witness to the utter ruination that
is ongoing.

Stops are down and will remain down. Policing has ended in Chicago and there is nothing the brass or the 5th floor can do to get it back. Even when the ACLU is satisfied and the Feds and DOJ leave, the ISR will remain, along with fewer stops. And who are the winners? Well of course the ACLU and liberals. They got the mean old police to cease stopping people in an effort to prevent crime. Never mind that crime has shot thru the ceiling. Fewer stops is what the ACLU and liberals wanted, damn the consequences. And who are the losers? The good people of Chicago throughout the city. Time now for the ACLU and liberals to move on to another city to fuck up.

Well Mr. Johnson can you explain to the citizens of chicago heck all over the country how your racial issues of profiling experiences has anything to do with the carnage of black on black killings going on in these crime infested neighborhoods. Please explain 820 shooting and 150 homicides since Jan 1st what they have to do with your profiling experiences...oh and lord know all the other crimes like stabbings, robberies etc....etc....going on.

Sometimes coppers ( in this incident Eddie Johnson) sound just like liberals. Oversensative bitches. " once I got stopped by the police". Big fuckin deal. I got stopped many many times. Put on the hood, all that. I didn't give a mother- fuck. You know why? Cause I didn't do anything/ have anything & I'm not an oversensative liberal pussy. And when I got put on the hood ( 2x) it was in the same district where I worked at that time. No traumatization. It's a very uninteresting story right after it happened, & now many years later even more boring. Johnson proved he is just another yes- man parroting the liberal narrative & avoiding the real issues, problems. Eddie Johnson.... You are now officially Rahm's bitch! How's it feel to be a bitch? Now...go get your shine box & stay the fuck outta Hansen Park w your communist panty - ass.

WH Thompson reports homicides while the CPD / Tribune reports murders. As WH says "ALL murders are homicides but not all homicides are murders". Best example would be the self defense shooting of car jacking suspect on Friday AM. He is a homicide but is not considered a murder in the CPD stats.

As for me, I tend to trust WH's stats more than anything CPD comes up with. Figures Don't Lie, BUT LIARS Figure.

Who says there's no good news? And besides, think of the money Chicago is saving.
