Bank Robbery Offender Killed
- A Chicago cop fatally shot a bank robbery suspect after a chase that ended in the backyard of a Southwest Side home Monday morning in the Archer Heights neighborhood.
The man allegedly robbed a branch of Byline Bank at 4970 S. Archer Ave. at about 10:30 a.m.
“Eighth district officers responded to a holdup alarm,” Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said at a news conference near the scene of the shooting.
“As they responded a security officer from the bank was in pursuit of a suspect to a just-committed armed robbery at the Byline Bank. A short foot pursuit ensued. The officers chased the subject down a gangway at which time the subject turned towards the officers with a weapon. One of the officers discharged his weapon, striking the offender.”
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
FBI agents are investigating the robbery, and IPRA is investigating whether the use of deadly force was justified, Johnson said. Police said they recovered a gun at the scene.
Johnson added that the man is suspected of robbing a different branch of the same bank on Saturday at 63rd and Austin. Johnson said the suspect matched the description of the previous bank robber, including a pair of “distinctive shoes.”
So it seems he was a habitual bank robber? A very good job then.

If were a copper you would know that crime has very little to do with the economy. Good people don't turn bad and start to rob and steal. I get a little tired of that narrative that there are good people in jail that just had a bad run, or were trying to feed their families.
Criminals are bad people period. Maybe they can learn their lesson but they have to be punished first. The do-gooders have to learn this.

I agree with you. People who have studied criminology and statistics for decades will say that there is little correlation between crime and the economy, especially violent crime. People do tend to steal more when they are poor, but not significantly. These arguments are an insult to poor people who work hard and try to get ahead. I often read or hear from progressives that blame the shootings on generational poverty instead of bad choices and bad behavior, bad family structures, government corruption and a welfare state that does not demand accountability. Not to mention the pandering of elected officials who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. But, the media will never call the pandering political class or progressive out for their false narratives. I heard Bernie and Hillary blame the police for much of the violent crime.
