Fix the Police!
For all of you keeping score at home, this little bit of math someone sent us, updated for the weekend:
- To date, 6 of the 1,245 individuals shot in Chicago have been by police, for a percentage of 0.0048192771 - four-tenths of one percent
The number killed is 4 out of 212, for a percentage of 0.0188679245 - just under 2%
This shows that when the police are fixed, everything else will fall into place.

We often hear that the Black community makes up 13% of the population, however they are responsible for over 50% of the homicides committed.
This is wrong, as not all 13% are involved, I would say at most 5% are the ones doing the shooting, stabbing, beating etc..
So it's only 5% of our country's population committing these crimes...
I'll admit I have not done any research so that 5% may be off a little, but I bet I'm close...

SCC. If you write 0.004 percent, that is four one-thousandths of one percent. You made the same mistake on the 2%. Lucky for you, you chose a career in law enforcement and not math.

Lucky for you we actually paid attention in school, instead of getting tied to the flagpole and pantsed on a regular basis.
If you read the actual post, you might have seen this little tidbit:

That means we (SCC) didn't write it, but we took it from a submission in the comments section or sent to us by e-mail. We make no secret of our abilities or shortcomings, and we happen to be okay at math. If you actually made that a percentage, you have to multiply the resulting decimal by 100 to get a percentage, so the math is correct, just expressed improperly.
So it's a good thing that you decided to be a snarky asshole and throw it out there for everyone to see, making fun of math that you can't do and missing the message behind the post - that the police aren't the problem, but the community is.

There have been studies in recent decades about crime and the % of people committing it. This research resulted in the " 3 strikes you are out" laws. The research, replicated more then once, showed that roughly 8% of young criminals go on to a life of crime, often violent crime. That is not 8% of the population or 7% of young people, but 8% of the young criminals. Most of the ahole teens stop their antics when they get into mid to late 20's. It is called " aging out".
